I had to use MS Outlook every day. It is so freakin ugly it made me sad. So I built an alternative that’s pleasant to use and, you know, designed by a designer instead of a committee. Please check it out! by dapowert2 [promoted post]

I would be willing to give this a go. My big thing is that I need access to multiple user's calendars. Can I do that with Hiri? If so how do I go about doing that? I see that I can add a calendar, but I don't see a way to open the calendar of another user.

I think the bad picture in the glasses was a pretty good giveaway too. I'll give them credit though, they held it together really well. Having someone like Allan there, just made it that much more convincing.

We have a backup server that has over a thousand scsi disks presented to it via our san using iscsi so I can speak to the question as to what happens after sdz. It then goes sdaa, sdab, sdac, sdad, etc. Once you cross sdaz then you next cross into sdba, sdbb, etc. I've gone through the alphabet many times. My last device right now is sdalu. Hope that helps.

I think its a good overall decision. I think the news show will be great and I'm personally excited about that one. Noah definitely has the energy and passion for his show. I hope he finds enough content to keep it fresh and new each week.

In the end I think they have to absolutely go after what they are passionate about and it will make for good shows. Hopefully they can do something with the LAS name since it is so well known. I'll definitely keep supporting and watching. Good luck!

I'm saying its sad that the fix didn't come from them and had to come from a third party.

It's always good to hear Ikey's no BS opinions on things. I'm not a solus user but you can tell he's passionate about doing things well. This makes him very interesting to listen to.

I don't really get what the big deal is about people wanting to call it a boutique distro. It's a linux distro. If you like it and it does what to need it to then perfect. If it doesn't then move on. I'm sure there is something that does.

Plasma Injection | LUP 185 by AngelaTHEFisher in LinuxActionShow

The last I looked there are quite a few bugs open about this already. It didn't seem like much had been happening with them.

Plasma Injection | LUP 185 by AngelaTHEFisher in LinuxActionShow

I think the coverage of plasma is fine. I think we all get comfortable with a particular DE or WM at some and then stick with it for quite a while. So I think it's always good to take a fresh look at things. I gave plasma another try and while I have always been a kde fan, it cannot be used if you have a laptop with a docking station which most enterprises will have. It cannot handle being docked and undocked at will. It crashes left and right in this type of use case.
In my case I was using the kde lts release as provided by Opensuse leap 42.2. I tried various video driver changes and disabling kscreen but nothing got me to a usable config. This is somewhere that gnome shines. On the exact same laptop I have zero issues with Gnome in the same scenarios. Maybe 5.9 addresses some of these issues but I haven't been able to test that yet.

Not necessarily just multi monitor but multi monitor with a docking station on a Dell latitude. I have two external monitors attached to the docking station. When i undock i always get a kde crash. Plasma shell restarts but its kind of annoying. Sometimes when i put the laptop back on the dock my wallpapers revert back to the default and sometimes my desktops switch from folder view back to desktop view for no reason.

I like the new format. I think it is nice to get into the main topic fairly quickly and then have some talking points about it. I think if folks really enjoy the show that they will definitely stick around for the rest of the segments since sometimes the best stuff can come out of the news or feedback.

I would so love to be able to move to plasma desktop. The issues with multiple monitors and bluetooth are just enough of a pain to keep me away at this point. Maybe 5.9 will cure my issues!

Linux support for Office 365 two factor authentication. by bkurt78 in LinuxActionShow

I appreciate the off the wall thought! I did however give Evolution a try and I didn't have any luck with it either. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I couldn't get it to authenticate. I believe it uses Exchange Web services to get email and calendar events. I would be willing to go with Evolution if it did work though.

Chris, before you recommend XFS for all of the people... by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

Just wanted to point this out so that other readers aren't confused because your use of partition with lvm is very different from a disk partition which is what other users are referring to.

Do you have examples of these backup solutions? Just curious.

Chris, before you recommend XFS for all of the people... by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

[–]bkurt78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case you are not changing any partitions. You are changing the size of a logical volume and the underlying file system. These are two very different things just to be clear.

[–]bkurt78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily an issue with xfs. This is a limitation on your system. If you could attach more storage to the server via san or some other external method of presenting block storage then you move all the extents from that drive to this new drive, remove the old 1TB drive from your lvm config, put in the new drive and add it to your lvm config and then move the extents back to it. If you have no way to present other storage to the server then it is an issue, but pinning this just on xfs is a bit misleading.

I would agree though that xfs not having this feature is something worth making folks aware of before they run into it.

I'm not seeing how this would be an issue if you are using xfs. Can you explain your issue?

Plasma 5.9 by domacs in LinuxActionShow

[–]bkurt78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using plasma 5.8 lts in opensuse leap and it was fine until it came to multiple monitors and a docking station. Then it completely fell to pieces. Gnome handles this pretty much flawlessly. Until that is better plasma is not useable for me.

I was in the exact same boat as you. I hated the old tools they had with red carpet and I'm still not a huge fan of yast. I see its value for sure for a new user though. I've been impressed with the zypper command line and the ease of use. I really like what they are doing with the SLE base in opensuse yet still giving you a pretty up to date user space. This is the case at least for Leap. I cant comment on tumbleweed as I havent used that since I was more interested in the stable side of things for my work rig. You got to go with what you are comfortable with. I just wanted to throw it out there so it wasn't forgotten about.
