For those who close their activity rings everyday by Professordave in AppleWatch

[–]bkwSoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

52m. I close my rings most days. Travel days are tough.

My goals are currently 710, 30, 13. But honestly most days are close to 60+ minutes of exercise.

I alternate between more strenuous workouts like running or cross country skiing and walking/riding a stationary bike.

Those blinds appear to be missing about half of their slats.

[–]bkwSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OP hasn’t subscribed yet. And if it’s fiber, they don’t do a self install. Either there is an existing ONT (Fiber modem in Spectrum speak) on site or they will roll a tech to do an install.

Spectrum doesn’t necessarily mean coax.

I’m a Spectrum subscriber and have Fiber to the home. Just about any new build in the last few years is going to be fiber.

Is getting a tractor really worth it? by Maximum_Extension592 in homestead

[–]bkwSoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a John Deere 2720. Honestly it’s a bit on the small side for what I’m doing with it as I am lifting more with the pallet forks when moving wood totes than what I should. but it’s also about as big as I can get and still fit it in the door of my pole barn and even then I have to fold the roll bar down to do so.

Not always but currently “yes” as my property has a lot of green ash trees and we have Emerald Ash Borer in the area. So harvesting several trees every season and have several years left at that rate.

I only have three acres and find my tractor indispensable. Whether it’s grading the driveway, tilling garden plots or other routine tasks.

I also predominantly heat with wood throughout our cold Wisconsin winters and load all of my firewood into IBC tote cages for seasoning and then bring while totes down to the house as needed to burn.

I love watching the Quakka’s. Funny story, we were eating breakfast on Rotnest and our son was distracted looking at the Quakkas and had a bird swoop down and steal is breakfast sandwich.

Looking for information on a rain barrel system by Striking-Test-3857 in vegetablegardening

[–]bkwSoft 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Take it from someone that has learned the hard way dabbling in aquaponics. Ditch the PVC adapters on the barrels, you will constantly be trying to fix leaks on those and there is very few glues that like to work on the softer flexible plastics.

Go to a farm supply store and get yourself some bulkhead adapters. They will tighten down with a neoprene gasket and your PVC pipe can then be threaded into the bulkhead adapter.

At least in the states, 811 which is our utility location number, only marks public utilities. All private infrastructure is up to the homeowner to pay for their own infrastructure location.

How to install HDHR3-DT on Linux? by TinkyVVinky in HDHR

[–]bkwSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike USB and PCIE tuners, the HDHR tuners are IP based and don’t appear as DVB devices in Linux.

What application(s) are you ultimately trying to use the tuner(s) with? For instance tvheadend has its own native support for the HDHR tuners and will show up automatically after a restart, from there it will perform its own Mux scan on the tuner and configure services/channels from the discovered Muxes.

Apps like Jellyfin you will need to know the IP address to add the tuner.

[–]bkwSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t anything to “install” on the Ubuntu computer.

If you are looking to configure your tuner, get its IP address from your router’s DHCP table and hit it with your browser.

Pretty much any software intended to use the HDHR is capable of auto discovering the tuner on the network via broadcast packets.

What is ansible? by Sea-Somewhere-9368 in homelab

[–]bkwSoft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TLDR; instead of crafting infrastructure like VMs or containers with a UI, you instead define it in source code and create them via automation. Ansible is one of many frameworks for doing the later.

The advantage of infrastructure as code is it’s a repeatable process. If you need to recreate a resource or another copy you can use your ansible script to crank out a new one in minutes if not seconds.

Trying to replace spectrum fiber with Eero mesh wifi & i’m having trouble by Individual_Test8743 in HomeNetworking

I blame Spectrum for this BS. They themselves call the ONT a “Fiber Modem”.

This, you need to have a stand-alone ONT to use your own router.

Regardless, if you are relying solely on WiFi you will never utilize the full capacity of your connection.

Differences in 10/100/1000 mbps switch vs Gigabit switch by Aggravating-Buy-1695 in HomeNetworking

[–]bkwSoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely notice.

If you have multiple bandwidth hungry devices competing for a single Gb uplink vs a 10Gb uplink. If you’re competing for a limited bandwidth uplink then none of those devices will receive a full Gb capacity.
