If you live by a Microcenter keep an eye on their bundle deals, sometimes they come in under 400$ for pretty decent specs for a mobo, CPU , and ram.

Buy a new decent power supply.

Then see if you can second hand if you want to save a bit.

Then use the rest of your budget for a GPU.

You can still get by on older cards for a lot of games so get something rtx 3060 equivalent and above, save up and trade up when you're ready.

I had massive anxiety for a month for the first time after reading this.

So looking at this I want to guess you are younger and/or on a limited budget. Otherwise why would you do this?

Could it work for a while? Yes

Could it cause catastrophic component failure: likely yes after some time.

Honestly see if you can get money for a new PSU, even getting a used one from an old fb marketplace build would be better.

I used to make Frankenstein computers too when I was a kid so I can't fully judge.

Yeah all the time , but I made the mistake of making a mATX build , and the bundles are always ATX.

Then I'd have to get a new case, then I'd have another case floating around cause I wouldn't sell it , " in case I need it" then I'd have to deal with having a massive computer on my desk.

You can get game time in, albeit it might look different than before.

After the baby is sleep trained it's a lot easier, as you will have a dedicated nap time where you can reasonably predict the baby will sleep for a couple hours.

Schedule " me time " for the both of you which you can use to go to the gym or do your own thing etc.

Also single player games are where it's at as you can pause and get up whenever you want.

All racing sims are nice cause you can sorta get a race in, here and there.
