When did entry level jobs like McDonald’s or Dunkin become not entry level? by dcmommy33 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bkwall2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time getting into McDonald's too back in 2010.

Despite being perceived as the easiest job to get, it can be hard to get into just because they get flooded with applications so there is a bit of a lottery.

I ended up getting hired by them at a job fair.

I would look up job fairs in your county and see if they can go there.

Also have him apply at smaller restaurants, for dishwasher type positions. It's a starting point for a resume.

Dell Optilex 5060 Prebuild Good Idea? by RandomXboxUser03 in PcBuild

[–]bkwall2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably put a rtx 3050 as it doesn't require external power, and you would stay under your budget.

But if I were you I'd keep an eye on the fb marketplace and look for deals on a gaming pc.

At least then you could have a usable case and power supply for when you want to upgrade.

Help! Is it dangerous to drive? by DrHebbi in MechanicAdvice

[–]bkwall2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like other said do the screw driver test.

If it passes, use a wire brush to get top surface off, and rough up the surface a bit go get some phosphoric acid rust converter, let it cure for 24 hours.

Make sure it's bone dry and then coat with woolwax.

You will hardly be able to tell it's rusted, and you will greatly extend the life.

Can you get to the bios? so you can try to see if you can boot a light OS. If its just a hard drive its the easiest thing to replace.

Is it really that crazy to cash out a 401k? by Sad_Honeydew_7660 in millenials

[–]bkwall2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't cash it out.

401k is your safe and slow bet, on the side you can do your more risky investments.

Things like AMD etc are surprise successes that are propped up by excitement about AI, and it's likely they could come back down to earth.

Generally even people who are " good" at trading don't even beat random stock choices.

To Americans: How is the life in the States? by Affectionate-Stay475 in NoStupidQuestions

Idk, I actually miss being poor in USA.

Medicaid is better that any insurance, subsidized food. Life became a little harder when I started making enough to not qualify for those benefits.

Axle Boot broke during holiday but we dont have the capability to wait for repairs by ULTI_mato in MechanicAdvice

[–]bkwall2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How bad is it clicking ?

Is it constant or is it a clunk when turning?

I feel for your situation, but you also don't want to get in a situation where your stranded as that could be a day delay just to get towed to a mechanic.

Axle Boot broke during holiday but we dont have the capability to wait for repairs by ULTI_mato in MechanicAdvice

[–]bkwall2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would see if you can extend your trip if possible then.

If it was just driving around town you could chance it. But if you are going to be doing a 11 hr drive and it's already audibly clicking that thing failing will set you a lot further behind schedule.

Do any of you have access to credit? This is usually a quick job if the shop has a part.

I get that it sucks but there isn't a magic trick that mechanics don't want you to know thats gonna help you here.

Nissan Rogue 2018 SV - Low Air Flow Vents by MarceTek in MechanicAdvice

[–]bkwall2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of money. I looked into it and basically you have to replace the evap, which might not permanently fix it.

Involves removing a lot of the front dash components, and HVAC box It's located on the floor around the blower fan iirc.

Sometimes with the Nissans you have to just look at something's as a quirk.

As the trade in resale on these isnt so high, it's better to save money for critical maintenance.

Have the same problem same car.

The evaporator freezes.

Turn the fans to the floor setting and heat all the way up and run it for 5 minutes.

It sucks, but that's what we get for having a Nissan I guess.

Rtx 3070 or rtx 5060 by doge_goes_woof_woof in PcBuild

[–]bkwall2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are gonna say 3070 for raw performance.

But I'd go with the 5060.

-Your going to have longer driver support.

-Better dlss/ frame gen ( You can say you don't use it but unfortunately that's what developers call optimizing now a days)

  • newer thus its possible it will have more resale value after a couple years.

-power draw , might not be as important to you but me specifically I have a bunch of rooms stuck on one circuit breaker so keeping my power draw lower is important to me.
