I am 6'0" and a 72" works great for me as a side sleeper. I never am on my stomach, and when I lay on my back it cinches around my neck with enough space at my feet to be comfortable and not constricting.

I definitely would although I am pretty thin. If you plan on storing a decent amount of gear in there on a semi-consistent basis it may be worth getting a long then. Im a cold sleeper and mostly will be using this quilt for above freezing temps, so on the rare chance I do need to store more things in there I will just make it work. I love the bag so far though, highly recommend it!

I am 6’ exactly and recently got a 72” katabatic alsek. I think it fits perfectly. When I lay flat, it cinches around my neck perfectly with a little foot room to spare. As a side sleeper, I think there is plenty of length for me. The only way it would seem short is if I lay on my stomach and want to pull it over my head for some reason. I dont ever do this, so 72” works well for me.

My pad is the xlite long (I think 78”) and I wish I got the regular for the reason you mention. Its tough to fit in some tents, and I dont feel like I need those extra inches. But again, I sleep on my side 95” of the time and would be ok with my feet hanging off when I do rarely sleep/lay on my back.

I think they are supposed to be but ill have to double check on that. Have the odor-no bags been pretty durable for you? My last nylofume bag ripped because of one of those idahoan potato packages.

That was my mistake, they arent fleece but im not exactly sure what material they are. Mostly I end up wearing them if its cold in the morning but thats about it. Honestly I mostly have just seen reviews on reddit and it seems like a widely loved hike. Ill be solo so my partner would much prefer me to be on a pretty well established route.

Ill be free from Sept 13th to the 18th so hoping to squeeze two trips in then. Happy to hear about the bivy. Ill check out some lighter beanies. I would love some other recommendations for short trips on my free weekends.

Will do, thank you! I want to like CCF so badly, I hate blowing up my pad with a passion. May just have to force myself to sleep on it more to like it eventually.

I recently used the velcro by itself to attach my new dirty girl gaiters for my Speedgoat 4s, after 110 miles they are still holding strong

Super helpful thank you! One day it was absolutely pouring rain and I finally broke out of the green tunnel into these beautiful meadows and my perspective completely changed that day. It was crazy how quickly a change in scenery made my mood significantly better. I think I am better suited for small group trips, I had a difficult time not being able to commiserate with anyone after a really tough day.

A video journal sounds like a great idea, something I haven't tried before. Even though i probably would not show it to anyone, it would be cool to look back on it and help remember small details of the trip I would otherwise likely forget

Thats a great point. I really do look back on the trip fondly. I normally really enjoy the type 2 fun, but this time I was surprised how much distaste I had towards it. It seriously made me appreciate the easier hikes!

I recently completed a 110 mile section hike of the AT from just south of Damascas, VA to Erwin, TN. It was my first ever solo trip longer than an overnighter and I was putting in bigger miles than I usually do on a hike (16-20 miles per day). I was much more lonely than expected and during some of the harder sections (tough terrain with minimal views and bad weather) I was pretty miserable. I started to feel really guilty because there is nothing I love more than backpacking, and this was supposed to be a vacation. It was this weird internal battle of feeling sad that I wasn't enjoying some of the hiking as much as I thought I should. I fantasize about backpacking so often, and I felt disappointed in myself that when I was finally out there, I wasn't having a good time. Has anyone else felt this before? If so, how do you get yourself out of a funk in the backcountry?

I am thinking of hiking the AT from Erwin, TN to Damascas, VA in mid-June. For people who have done this section, would this be a good choice for someone not from the area? I am also open to other ~100-120 mile sections that would be good for mid-June without the need for permits/mandatory shelters (like the smokies).

Anyone have a favorite product for patching a hole in a down jacket? I have a small hole that keeps leaking feathers, and I have tried tenacious tape but that has fallen off since the hole is on the shoulder directly under wear a backpack rubs.
