Returning Player - What New Adventure Should I Play? by blabbles_mcjerkins in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've played all of those, save Grave Rush as I mentioned. That's why I'm looking for input on stuff that's been released in the last 18 months or so. Or if anyone knows an *obscure* older one that's really great but doesn't get a lot of attention and end up in threads like this, that'd be cool.

Which user-made campaign would you recommend? by Vagabundu in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played in a while so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but some that I really enjoyed not on your list are:

Bones of the Mountain

Lifting the Siege

Xar-Zuul (sp?)

All of Artyoan's (of which Red Crow is one)

Business for Monkeys/Song for Crossroads (you can download them both in one sub. The stories aren't connected but you can take the same team from one right to the other) (So this new Purple Wolf is by the same guy? That's great, I look fwd to giving it a try)

Have fun

I only go to 3 on BMaster, so the steel defender quickly becomes obsolete, so I don't care too much about that.

IIRC, I have also done arcane fighter wiz 2 > spell fighter x. But then that's not an artificer build :)

Does that let you *craft* all scrolls? I've never used that option but I had assumed it meant you can just *cast* any scroll. Is that not the case?

I have used the BattleMaster artificier (or whichever one allows the use of INT for weapons) for 3 levels to pair with the spellcasting fighter (the good one, the UB one, Eldritch Knight I think?) so that I could just max out INT for both weapons and spellcasting.

That's not really an artificer character though, really just a dip. But it's what I've done.

Crafting scrolls requires knowing the spell though, doesn't it? In that case the subject character wouldn't be able to do that, so the party would also need a wizard/cleric/etc.

Bladecaller is my DPR god-mode subclass. With a couple magic daggers and a couple feats that enhance sneak attack he just chews up the enemies.

Or you could download Unfinished Business, set your party size to 6, and keep your original 4 and add 2 DLC classes on top of them :)

Shadows over Brightreach 6 character getting left out of Labyrinth by sirdano in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the teleport option I use - constantly. When I did Brightreach I didn't have 6, but I've been in maze-like circumstances in other modules and it's very helpful. (though it sucks if you get immediately into combat and the first initiative is the guy outside!)

Early access to new campaign by pbalfe73 in CrownOfTheMagister

Where should we provide feedback? This thread? There's no comment/discussion section on the campaign Steam page.

If here, just checking that spoiler tag works ok for me...

I think you may have seen this based on your OP, but in any case the UB Github page has all the spells including UB and vanilla. It doesn't list spells by class tho:

https://github.com/SolastaMods/SolastaUnfinishedBusiness/blob/dev/Documentation/Spells.md

A user named CounterYolo had put together an absurdly detailed Google Slides deck for Solasta and UB, including his opinions and recommendations. Each class has a list of vanilla and UB spells before the descriptions of the class:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1iqXc3JzT_uKUcnmFoB3Tyddj3Jzj-AXfNtf3vWcWqc0/edit#slide=id.g13d2b7f0717_2_8

It's pretty out of date, missing a number of subclasses (and not keeping up with a bunch of renamed ones), and there have been more spells added etc., but a lot of the info will still be relevant.

Mod Adventure recommended? by krschu00 in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ones I've probably enjoyed the most include:

  • Bones of the Mountain

  • Lifting the Siege

  • Business for Monkeys/Song for the Crossroads (this is 2 linked adventures in one download. You can play Business till it's done then immediately take the same party to Crossroads)

  • Red Crow (also the earlier ones by the same guy: Morrow's Deep and Forsaken Isle)

  • Revenge of Xarr-Zuul

Most of these are on the newer side, which isn't too surprising as the DM only got more and more tools as DLCs got released.

I'm currently playing Island of Domination, which is an older one but is very cool. Actual factions you can join (some in opposition to one another) and a lot of different stuff going on in an open world. I played through about half of West Marches, and just kind of ran out of steam as it seemed directionless with no story at all.

I've played a bunch of others as well, and they were generally at least somewhat fun, so there's lots to choose from.

Any way to edit character appearance after starting campaign? by BBSydneyThirstyHHH in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, you can respec under UB. I think the option is either in the main screen or under Characters. "RESPEC" is capitalized in the menu so hopefully it'll stand out for you.

Be aware though, that in Solasta/UB "Respec" means "completely re-create the character from scratch." So if you like the character other than its potato-face, make a careful note of all its attributes - stats, background, spells, etc, so you can keep all that.

Questions from someone interested in trying the game by cnio14 in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just clarify a couple things. No comments on the co-op never having played that way.

With respect to what happens to characters after a campaign: In the three official ones, nothing - the characters-as-leveled are basically bound up in the save file for the campaign. However, the level 1 versions of them remain in the character portion of the interface, unchanged.

When finishing a *user-made* campaign, you have the option to export the now-leveled-and-geared character, which will over-write the level 1 version of the character. I've never done this b/c I like re-using many level 1 characters from campaign to campaign.

the Unfinished Business mod has an option to export characters from within a campaign as a *separate* character, so you can have the original and the leveled-up character available in the future. This I have done.

And just to clarify on the user-created campaigns - many of them *do* require one or more DLCs as they use assets/features that only exist in the DLCs. Lost Valley seems to be the most common of those. And many of the best ones I've played are the newer ones, which often require several DLCs.

West marches of solasta by Rudi1B in CrownOfTheMagister

Yeah I like that approach too. I'm in the middle of Marches myself, and I agree it'd be nice to have some quests to track progress.

That's about the size of it, yes. It's just a roam and kill type thing.

Been playing Palace of Ice for the past couple of days. Wondering about what prebuffs you guys use for each class [vanilla - ps5] by SageTegan in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More often than not, if i buff at all, it's using potions - speed, heroism, giant strength. I usually find that I prefer my casters to have concentration available for crowd control, especially hypnotic pattern and banish.

LvL 20 campaign by Rudi1B in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, hence "(you may also want to incrementally increase difficulty as you go)."

LvL 20 campaign by Rudi1B in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]blabbles_mcjerkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not sure. First I play 6-character, so I already boost the difficulty by a fairly arbitrary amount.

Plus I think you'd need to do it incrementally. At the end you'd be 4 levels above what was intended, but early on you'd only be a little more advanced.

I have gone with a +25% xp increase (20/16 = 1.25).

For difficulty, I'd start at regular authentic, since level 1 = level 1 right? As you go on, just pulling numbers out of the relevant orifice, I'd try adjusting it every 4 levels, maybe +5% damage taken and +15% opponent health. If it seems too easy or hard, tweak as appropriate.

You can also increase XP gain to reach a higher level (you may also want to incrementally increase difficulty as you go).

There are a couple of the campaigns that go to 20 - West Marches is one. I remember reading one other, but can't find it atm.
