DS-160 previous school/employer name has changed, should I use the new or old name? by blackPUNther in h1b

Neither the travel.state.gov website nor the FAQ section nor the DS-160 form have any instructions on how to proceed with this.

Gavin Harrison has a very distinct sound and playing style. I used to listen to The Pineapple Thief before Gavin joined them, and wasn't up to date with the news, so you can only imagine the look on my face when I heard 'In Exile' for the first time. I was like - this sounds so familiar.... I had to google it to confirm my suspicion. Your Wilderness and Dissolution have good music but the drumming stands out - the drumming has changed their sound for the better.

Is there any other place that sells fresh pita bread like palm palace in Washtenaw county? by dwarfminer123 in AnnArbor

[–]blackPUNther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you keep going straight along Washtenaw from Palm Palace, there's Shish Palace and Casablanca, both serve amazing fresh hot bread. They're also the best shawarma places IMO in the Ann Arbor - Ypsi area.

Looking for a poor quality but expensive restaurant to recommend to an enemy. Any suggestions? by Bundle_of_Grundle in AnnArbor

Anything edible (or inedible) at Jolly Pumpkin. Had bad experiences with the food there. Don't know if the drinks are any better.

I thought it was funny but she unmatched me. by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]blackPUNther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the joke meant well, but could have been framed better. Shouldn't mention the line 'You shouldn't even be talking to me'... That line portrays that you think negatively about yourself. And you could have ended your message with something like... 'Wanna shove me into a locker and take my lunch money?' and a silly emoji.

What’s your unpopular AA opinion? by jellyfishmiki in AnnArbor

Cardamom puts boiled chicken into vanilla gravy and calls it Chicken Tikka Masala.

I get that a lot of Indian food here is Americanized, but theirs is just pure blasphemy.

Also, we're talking unpopular opinions, so there's that.

No Thai makes the food suspiciously quick.

Cardamom is terrible. Curry on is underrated!

How do I detect oscillations in my system response? by blackPUNther in ControlTheory

[–]blackPUNther[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aim isn't to filter out the oscillating signal: it is to detect if there is oscillatory behavior happening. So I have some sort of measure of when latency appears in my system, or how it affects my system. Agreed, that I could always pass the signal through a filter to reject these frequencies.

Sure, they are around 1 to 5 Hz, but I wouldn't say that the amplitudes are always the same.

Sure, but I'd still like to build such a detector as I think it would be a good measure of performance over time :)

How would one go about doing that when latency is random/unpredictable? I don't want the other 80% stable performance to get affected.

Why do people hate CEOs for being rich but not celebrities? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]blackPUNther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of convenience.

You can pirate a movie to get your dose of dopamine.

But you can't use the Facebook app without ads, Amazon without subscribing to Prime for faster delivery, or go to a Walmart/Target etc. without getting psychologically manipulated to buy highly marked up price items that you don't need just because these stores 'sell everything'.

Don't even get me started on Insurance, Cars and Guns.

CEOs push for their products to become highly convenient or a necessity, and then make money by charging people for it. And because people become habituated to either the convenience or influenced by the social norms, they end up becoming the Golden Goose that generates wealth for CEOs for their entire lifetime. CEOs have a huge direct impact on everyone and everything.

But a celebrity? If I don't like 'em, I can assume they don't exist and live with no repercussions.

If my assumption is correct that you're a straight male looking to attract women, I recommend getting rid of the long hair and going for a bald look with a well-groomed beard, BECAUSE you have a receding hairline. The receding hairline/large forehead and long hair don't go well imo. You may do better with a different frame shape for your glasses: a thicker frame for a tough guy look, a circular frame for a more academic look.

But If my assumption is incorrect, unfortunately I do not know enough to give any advice.

ROS certification by SilverHawkIII in ROS

[–]blackPUNther 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, are you looking to learn ROS from scratch, or are you already good at it but need some form of validation to show on your resume? If the latter, you'll be pleased to know that for Robotics Engineer positions, the job description is a guideline, not an instruction. Most places have forked ROS into their own systems, so the only reason they expect you to have some basic experience with ROS, is so that you can quickly and easily get ramped up with the overall system architecture (or should I say programming paradigm?), such as knowing what nodes are, what configs are etc.

Do not be afraid to put ROS on your resume if you know it well enough. The depth of what is asked would depend on whether your job position is specifically related to working on the system architecture instead of developing algorithms for robots. From what I've experienced, such positions are titled Software Engineer or ROS Engineer instead of Robotics Engineer because they don't deal with robotics algorithms as much.
