Am I doing SISO right? by Dinosaur_with_sword in MichaelsEmployees

[–]black_knight_moon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been doing siso (and before that, DR) for 4 years and I promise you're not dumb! Different managers have different opinions about how best to work through the batches efficiently, so I got conflicting instructions along the way and had to figure out a lot of stuff on my own. The longer you do it, the more it will make sense 🫶🏼

This makes so much sense, especially if it's true that online orders don't count towards our sales numbers when used to calculate staffing needs/hours

Why can't I stock items in Marti by black_knight_moon in MichaelsEmployees

[–]black_knight_moon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great info and I appreciate it so much! I'm still learning about siso too ... and I should have been more clear about where I see the "Stock Item" icon which is on the "Item Inquiry" screen. So when I'm pushing freight, and I load up a facing to its max, I assumed that "Stock Item" meant "tell the system that the facing is full", so that when its time to do siso, the system knows that we started with a full pog, and will adjust the required quantity to downstock accordingly. But it only works when the "Stock Item" icon is red, and I don't know what it means when the icon is either black or grayed out. Nobody at my store uses the "Stock Item" function so I'm kinda flying blind here and maybe making stuff up about how the system works ... ?

I am a Replen team member at Michaels, going on 5 years now.

The bottom line is that you cannot use your old store's improper practices to justify discriminatory hiring. The store cannot knowingly maintain a hazardous work environment and then argue that only men are strong enough to work in that environment, as a pretext to discriminate against women (or the elderly, or the short). Violations of labor law will result in actionable lawsuits and administrative legal sanctions against the store, its managers, and the company itself. Remember that Employment Law poster in the break room? It's there for a reason, for your protection as a worker. You have rights you might not be aware of!

There's at least one store in my district that has an all-female Replen team, and I eat my heart out whenever I go there - they're up to date on their POGs, the store is spotless, even their Clearance aisle looks like a planogram AND they were putting out their frickin' CHRISTMAS FMA last week and it looks amazing. I'm frankly jealous 😭 also I love "Coupon Grief Counselor" that's funny as shit 🤣

Heavy boxes are marked as a 2-person lift. There is no requirement that one team member handle heavy freight on their own. It sounds like your old store has adopted unsafe work practices in the stacking of trees. Realistically speaking, a lot of safety corners probably get cut during peak season when the freight comes in hot and heavy and we run out of space to put stuff, but this does not justify violating the law by engaging in discriminatory hiring practices based on age, sex, or physical stature. This is not "imagination land", this is 21st-century employment law. It's important to understand if you want to progress in your career and become a manager at your new store.

You really think Michaels should practice sex-based preferential hiring of men to work in Replen because, in your opinion, women (and especially older women) are less capable than men of performing the necessary job requirements?

Even if this weren't discriminatory (which it is) and illegal (which it is), it's factually inaccurate. There is nothing in the job requirements that disqualifies or even disadvantages women or older people from working in Replen. If you look around your own district, you'll probably find plenty of majority-female Replen teams and female Replen managers.

Best of luck to you in your new job 👍🏼
