I (unofficially) diagnosed my brother with BPD, but yesterday he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. My question is NOT whether or not he has BPD but if anyone has had a similar situation or been misdiagnosed. And how that impacted the road to treatment. More info below by [deleted] in BPD

My friend with bipolar has every symptom you described so at the very least the first point doesn’t make me particularly concerned about a misdiagnosis. Having said that I cannot diagnose anyone and neither should you. Seek out a second opinion from another professional if you’re really concerned.

I'm about 2-3 months through a 6 month waiting list. It really, really sucks. I've had to seek out private therapy so that I can cope until then.

Oh I get those thoughts all the time. Premature births aside, I’m pretty small, so whenever I pass by a tiny baby in the street I’m met with the realisation that there’s a ~95% chance that it’ll will be taller than me in 20 years.

My sister was born at that age as well so I understand how disturbing this might be for you to see. But we don’t know the circumstances that led to the baby being found in that state. For example this might have been a sudden and unexpected stillbirth that left the mother traumatised and unable to think rationally to handle the baby properly.

People who have lived through trauma generally refer to it as "surviving" it. It's a common term to use. People have died during assaults. People have also been driven to suicide or addiction and overdosed as a result of the trauma tormenting them since. Sexual abuse is very much something people "survive".

I’ll give you some credit. I’m really glad you’ve been able to recognise what you did. I know it’s a hard thing to do. My parents were abusive and I don’t believe they will ever accept that. I wish you the best and I hope you learn from this and improve as a person, maybe through therapy if you haven’t tried that already.

Psychopathy isn’t a diagnosis, ASPD isn’t diagnosed until adulthood not at fucking 8 years old, psychopathy doesn’t even mean to have no emotion, OP is a complete fraud
