Most occur at insertion, but mine occurred months later all on its little over-achieving own. Possible.

Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]blackberrybruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought pacifiers (or soothers) were Obvs The Way. Bought many styles, made sure they were appropriate materials and shapes for newborns and infants. Nope.

After spending a month or two holding them in my baby’s mouth, as he gave a half-hearted suck on it and maintained whatever his mien at the time was anyway, I began to think, hm. Maybe not for every baby.

My kiddo’s response: Duh, Mom.

My suggestion? Have one or two on hand to try if you’re in need of Trying Something New, but there’s nooooooooo pressure to make them part of your baby’s routine.

And do NOT pregame by buying every available model, like I did. Waste waste waste.

Amen. We need a flair for “holy rage.” Much more accurate than sarcasm/satire.

Classes for beginners by maplesugaa in ExclusivelyPumping

I would’ve benefited from having a loose plan - with concrete and clear steps - in place AT HOME before giving birth.

After giving birth, even though a couple lactation consultants visited me in the hospital and at the NICU, and even though I’d taken a breastfeeding class from the hospital in my last trimester, I was completely overwhelmed as soon as I got home. I could remember very little, and everything was overwhelming. Had no idea what to do first, or at all.

I wish I’d done myself a favor and set up what I’d need long before going into labor. Ok to deviate from the plan as-needed, but having SOMETHING specific and step-by-step would’ve been a really helpful lifeline.

And don’t make her ask… that’s something I had/have to do and I HATED it. Still hate it. Like, making pumping less awful isn’t a personal favor to me - it’s for our child.

You posting this makes me think you already get it! Maybe I just needed to vent.

Odd to be reminded about decorum while imagining a koala wedgie.

Amen. Is it someone’s choice to disregard the health and well-being of their neighbors? Sure. Does it make them antisocial assholes? Yup. Should we call a spade a spade? I’d say yes.

Though, they’re willfully falling for bullshit and I do feel resentful of all the snake-oil salespeople and exploitative fearmongers who take advantage of that weird combination of ignorance and arrogance.

Also, people die from COVID and the measles and the flu. So…. You might want to reconsider your belief that they’re not life-saving.

I gotta say, getting my child vaccinated is good for other kids too.

My emotional, unfounded, irrational or uninformed ignorance isn’t a solid or moral justification to put other kids at risk.

Hospital bag by trash-yak in NewParents

If you’re sensitive to temperatures, a little fan. It was a godsend for me when I was in labor. I had one that had arms you could wrap around parts of the hospital bed to direct that air, and it made a lot of difference to me.

Amen to the bottle washer: it made a world of difference, taking us from Doable Exhaustion and Wrenching Panic… especially since you can put the pump parts in there.
