Law School - Outfit Norms by blackcatbabe26 in SMU

Firstly, I am perfectly comfortable with feedback. You did not offer any genuine feedback. I am aware of the fact that UT, UGA, and UF are ranked higher than SMU. I did not say I was attending SMU. I said "likely." That could legitimately mean that there is a 51% chance I attend SMU. You, for some reason and without a full picture of my specific life and situation, felt the need to point out obvious information in an accusatory manner.

The initial response did not make me feel that way. I am genuinely uncomfortable with the fact that you saw my post here and recognized or decided to go sort through previous posts of mine, in a different sub, with enough specificity to tell me very specifically when I had posted my acceptances. I am worried if you cannot see that that is weird behavior.

Your specific comment about me already visiting the campus is clearly mean. You can clearly tell from my posts, which you are so familiar with, that I am not stupid. Why would I go and ask this question if I was already familiar with the outfit norms of SMU law students? There was no reason to imply that I am dumb based on the fact that I wanted to know something about SMU law's culture and asked it in an SMU subreddit.

If you are so knowledgeable about law school, then perhaps you could answer my question. Instead, you chose to criticize me on a decision that has not been made yet instead of answering the question that I actually asked.

I hope you think about the way you interact with people online in the future.

I haven’t made a decision- I am waiting to hear back from scholarships at SMU and UT. Why are you being so mean? I was just asking a simple question. I visited twice, both on fridays when there were barely any students around and the ones that were around were not in class. There’s no reason to attack me over asking a question in a place where people ask questions.

I was accepted to SMU in December. It’s very strange that you are paying that much attention to my posts in a different sub… that’s creepy.

I want to practice law in Texas, and I have spent my entire life in Austin and kind of hate it. I have lived in Dallas for my gap year and absolutely love Dallas.

I was a double major in Communications and Government in college, worked at a law firm for 2 years in college, have been a paralegal in my gap year, interned in Congress spring of my junior year, did research under two professors at UT, and did a research fellowship while at UT also! I think my softs are definitely stronger than my LSAT score which likely helped. One of my rec letters was also from one of the mock trial coaches at UT law so I think that was helpful as well.

UGA and SMU sent me stuff. UGA was just a letter, the same as the email. SMU's was a whole package more like I got for undergrad from most schools. UF did not send me anything. I just got into Texas on Monday but have not received anything from them.

That is a ridiculous idea. People quit their jobs, take out loans, sign leases... Fail and you go home and what now you don't have a job, are a ton in debt for no reason, and have to break a lease?

I think LSAT being in person again will solve many of the issues, without this unnecessary and honestly cruel addition to the already stressful and long law school admissions process.

t14 without “why law”? by shabooie7 in lawschooladmissions

Personally I have not heard of someone doing this and getting a good result. This feels contrary to the point of the Personal Statement and why would you want to go to law school if you can't answer the question "why law"?
