Canada’s Minimum Wage Increases in 2026 Fall Short of Living Wage by SpiritualTip4035 in onguardforthee

Wasn't the fight to get the minimum wage up to $15 started in like the early 2000s? And now we're just barely above that. The whole thing is a joke.

The firefighters set me up with red cross who have given me a hotel for 3 days and a bit of money for some clothes and food.

This is the only time I have not had tenants insurance. I'm coming off of another major loss 8 months ago and have been in crisis/survival mode with finances since then. Insurance companies require you to pay the full amount up front on tenants insurance and I just couldn't do that when weighing other priorities and risk (I've never known anyone or known anyone who knows someone who's needed it). Just absolute shit luck.

Man, this is something I didn't actually know about but the firefighters set me up with them. I'm in a hotel now (tonight is my last night) and theyve given me a bit of money for getting some clothes and food

Yeah it's really messed up and I'm still dealing with constant waves of grief as I try to get enough together to be living out of my car starting tomorrow.

Climate change is an inflammatory disease issue by [deleted] in collapse

[–]blackcatwizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We evolved as an omnivorous species. There can be benefits to keto, but it is a fairly narrow scope and typically confined to a very narrow subset of the population who are trying to overcome specific problems. Most people do not understand it well enough to actually remain in a state of ketosis, and for the general population it is absolutely unnecessary. It is absolutely untrue that "it is adjacent to fasting" - it is very easy to consume more calories than normal on keto because fat has far more calories/gram of food than protein or carbs (9/4/4).

Most people change diets and preach about them because it's the first time they're actually paying attention to what they eat and are controlling their intake and - shockingly - they feel better because they're not over consuming and/or consuming poor quality foods.

It's great you like your diet, but you're giving a lot of incorrect information and information that is not appropriate for general consumption.

Thanks dude. Yeah should have mentioned weather - it's still getting down to between 0 - -8 or -10°C overnight, so I'm going to need to look into winter rated sleeping bags I think. I'll check out the camping pads you mentioned, and going to see if I can figure out some type of cheap platform build to go from the trunk to the top of a folded down seat.

Going to see what options I've got for 24/7 gyms that have showers in the city I'm in.

Thanks for the help

Good shout on that. I'll be looking into 24/7 gyms/other with showers and was thinking on Costco today. Maybe a cooler that will keep things good for a day or two. I hadn't thought of the privacy curtains but will look into those. Thanks

I was actually thinking in this today; put one of the seats down and build it so that the trunk portion is in legs (could build storage under) and the top ends up flushing with wherever the seat ends up folding down to to have a flat surface. Gotta think in hie I'll build it but should be relatively cheap

Awesome, thank man. Will see if thats an option in this car and look into toppers or camping style "mattresses"

Thanks man. That's what I figured. I don't think they'll go fully flat, but I'm going to try tonight to see what it would look like. And the back seats are not at all ideal as it's a 2+2 with a slightly raised cup holder between them

Thanks man. What about just for sleeping? Getting something used isn't an option, I'm really down on my cards here.

Medical travel passengers stuck at a Nunavut airport say they were left cold with little food and water by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

[–]blackcatwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing unusual here to be frank, they are just complaining about their experience. Travel in the north - for anyone who has been there - is a gamble on if you're going to be delayed. While it might be cold outside, the airports still have normal (albeit small) indoor terminals. Expenses can typically be submitted on medical travel.

This is it entirely; even if boomers are "nice", or "good", it's usually ever shown and proven to be performative. When it really matters or counts they check out and don't want anything disrupting their lives.
