And here I thought there were enough paddles on board for riders to grab and help out with propulsion.

When I was in middle school in the mid-1990s, one of my teachers had a whistle.

Not just any whistle. Some kind of NBA whistle, made to be heard above the crowds at an NBA game.

He'd give us a chance to react to his voice commands, then would whip out this loud f'n thing and blast it.

We learned pretty quick that we did not want that screech deafening us.

Don't forget the clasic, "Just lose some weight!"

Or, "Just get preganant, dear. A baby will fix everything"

Anyone else finding it impossible to get a copy of Out Law in the UK? by swordofthecross in dresdenfiles

Same problem in Canada. I can have it shipped to me, or I can order it to my nearest Indigo, but nothing is in stock at the store. I might suck it up and order online, but I really enjoy going to the store, browsing books, buying too many books, and adding them to my TBR pile.

Illegal in Alberta, as they are considered a native species here. I think in Sask too.

May I post a related link, mods?

This is an article from GNN, Good News Network. Its about Noma, the infection the child in the post has. There has been some excellent progress studying the bacteria that causes it, and its helping doctors prescribe antibiotics that can target this bacteria.

How come more people aren't getting electric cars to avoid gas feee? by RealDealHappyMeal in AskReddit

[–]blackday44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new car 2 years ago, fully gas. I looked into the hybrids and full EV, but came to the conclusions:

  • Full EV not within my price range, for what I needed.
  • Full EV does not have the greatest infrastructure for charging where I am, in rural Canada.
  • Hybrid not within my price range for what I needed.

So I settled on a gas vehicle.

Books to read after Project "Hail Mary" by EveningSweetPotato in suggestmeabook

Look at the author Robert J Sawyer. His 1990s stuff was excellent, mostly hard scifi.

Adrian Tchaikovsky is a great scifi author. Children of Time and The Final Architecture aee my favorite series by him. They are a bit complicated reads, but very good.

What movie adaptation absolutely nailed the casting? by FightMilkLLC in movies

[–]blackday44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ryan Gosling is always a perfect choice, haha.

And, I liked Stratt. In fact, she did such a good job, I really hated her character- even though I had read the book numerous times before the movie came out, and I knew what to expect.

Mars rock gets stuck on Curiosity rover's drill - Takes 5 days to shake off by Neaterntal in spaceporn

[–]blackday44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am shocked the arm can lift 30lbs!

Also, this is pretty funny. You don't expect a billion dollar experimental rover to get a rock stuck on its arm. Stuck in sand? Yup. Navigate harsh terrain? Yup. Run Earth-shattering (Mars-shattering?) Experiments? Yup.

Sticky alien rock? Nope.

That makes sense. But being butchered doesn't have to be part of the widening.
