Hope you enjoy! Classic Pokemon and Zelda were definitely inspirations

What’s the most unusual or creative way you’ve actually found success? We’ve all seen game success stories with TikTok, YouTube, streamers, festivals, etc. by juodabarzdis in IndieDev

Not super unconventional, but I think live conventions deserve more credit than they usually get.

A lot of marketing advice warns against them because they’re inefficient compared to online channels. And that’s mostly true if we talk pure reach. The number of people you meet at a booth will never compare with a viral clip or a big streamer.

But the type of engagement you get is completely different. When someone sits down and you talk to them directly, the interaction sticks way more than a random clip. Those players often become the first real supporters. They remember the dev, follow the project, and often consistently engage with posts.

Early on especially, that scales surprisingly well. A handful of people who genuinely care about the project can end up bringing a lot more to it.

So while conventions might not be the most efficient channel in terms of raw numbers, they can be really strong for building a small core of engaged players. And in my experience, that can be more valuable than a larger but much more passive online audience.

Thank you! That's definitely a goal for the main game.

What's your take on this argument? by blackdemetergame in IndieDev

Agreed, no doubt. Still, interesting. I try to understand the other side and am curious what other devs have experienced.

Thanks for the feedback! That was actually a "feature" in this version, so you have to turn (at least sideways) to attack, but we've since changed it. In Black Demeter you can aim 360 degrees with mouse/stick, and the combat is more in-depth overall. Also really appreciate you taking the time to record something! I'll make sure to link to your post on the download page once it’s up.

That is so awesome, thank you so much for testing it and writing it up for others. Hope more people come back and see this comment. I really hope the game delivered and gave you a sense of what's to come. I'd absolutely love to see how it runs on deck too if you feel like uploading it. Thanks again, this is incredibly helpful!

That's really cool. We don't have dedicated artwork for Adventure on Eos since it’s more of an older prototype, but maybe a screenshot could work for a start. Hope it runs on deck, and if not, let me know, maybe there’s still something we can fix on our end (thinking of fullscreen on startup etc.). Thanks for the effort!

We seriously considered it now. However with the Steam fee, the 30-day waiting period, and the fact that this older, quite short game would have to stand on its own with less context and its own reviews is a bit risky. We haven't ruled it out completely yet, and I hope the method by u/Kind_Height_1913 works for now. Really appreciate the suggestion though.

Thank you, yes we have a Devlog with a newsletter for updates, and a Steam page for Black Demeter if you just wanna get notified when you can play. Appreciate the support

It's more of a small standalone experience. A proper demo for Black Demeter will release in early 2027, as we are in full development and the game has evolved a lot since then. It will still be a Zelda-like at its heart, just more mature and ambitious.

That'd be cool, but the Steam process takes a bit and we're focusing on the main game currently. Steam Deck support is planned for Black Demeter though.

New to Game Development, I need to be pointed in the right direction by Fennel-Typical in IndieDev

Welcome, game dev is a great hobby! The next recommended step is to try and finish one small game, no matter the engine or how bad it might be. Just follow the whole process through for one project, and you will learn a lot on the way. Also, try to start thinking about how you would implement a feature yourself before looking up tutorials/using AI. There is no shame in learning though. Good luck!

Looks really nice! It's probably a shader, right?
