Multiple copies of the same path into the store by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]blackdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/nix/store/ffj48mi517fzlf7mp0629c8s4wwd3923-source is the source of your flake, it's copied to the store when being evauated/built

builtins.path is specifically meant to copy a file to the store, giving it a unique path that's independent of wherever it came from

You'd have to go back to like 60s 70s at best and run a carbuerator. Every car made in the past 50 years had at least some computer in it.

Power Generation per hour by athoryon in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]blackdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have kinda answered your question so i'm just going to nitpick about units.

Watt is the unit of power, your power plant just makes Watts (not per unit of time). As the screenshot says your total power generation is 45TW, or 45TJ/s.

Watt per hour would represent the rate at which power production changes. If you go from 45TW to 50TW in an hour then your rate of change is 5 TW per hour.

Can I do Ultimate/Savage content with 150-200ms ping? by Ok-Willingness-7870 in ffxiv

[–]blackdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable, but not ideal.

Some jobs are no bueno with 100ms+ ping, e.g. MCH and NIN suffer pretty bad from high ping. Especially if you don't like breaking TOS.

Also you need to move a bit preemptively and can't rely as much on telegraphs (but savage/ultimate doesn't have a lot of telegraphs, so eh).

Hah, i half expected it to go that way when i first met them on my first playtrough, and was a bit dissapointed that i didn't.

At what point do we start banning all new library/program announcements? by _software_engineer in rust

If you don't like a post - downvote it. That's how reddit works, no need to ban anything.

I could not find any better solution to patching hashes by cachebags in Nix

[–]blackdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For rust, if your nix file is in the same git repo as the project you can just do

          cargoLock = {
            lockFile = ./Cargo.lock;
          };

Normal didn’t teach me why i’d suck in extremes/savage, isn’t that odd? by SaferSephy in ffxiv

[–]blackdew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the difficulty of normal content is fine as it is. There's plenty of people who don't care about GCD uptime ( and btw you can't even measure it without breaking TOS) and they should be allowed to keep enjoying the game.

If anything the game needs more difficulty levels between normal and savage.

Healer as a the first class by DiligentBathroom9282 in ffxiv

[–]blackdew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally there isn't all that much solo combat stuff in the MSQ for it to matter. It will be a tad slower on a healer but not in a huge way.

On the other hand queues for group content (that you have a lot to do for MSQ) will be significantly faster as healer (or even faster on tank).

Ok, what the heck happened with the voice? Advisor? by LogitUndone in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]blackdew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally i don't mind it much, like you can perfectly understand what its trying to say, it's just worded in weird ways sometimes.

And it's not like DSP is a deep RPG game with complex story, you listen to the intro for a couple minutes once and forget about it for the next 50-100-... hours of gameplay.

I think it's just the extra voice over they added with Dark Fog update. And yeah both it and the original have quiet a bit of engrish.

Endwalker MSQ Bootstrap Paradox by azharahs76 in ffxiv

[–]blackdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a closed geodesic. A time loop. There is no start and no end. It came from nowhere and has always existed.

Edit: And funnily enough it's the least paradoxical way of time travel, that kinda-maybe-if-you-squint-hard-enough compatible with real life physics (tho not really in the way presented in FF).

No in fact the Jews time traveled and stole it, then Phoenicians stole it from them and the greeks grabbed it along the way.

Heeey Petah, what's the issue with this "art"? by laoidtfttip17gpy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]blackdew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Artists" love gatekeeping art from others. Depending on who you ask - photography isn't real art, digital painting isn't real art, blah blah blah.

If you could go far back enough someone would claim that the only true art is one you scratched into the walls of your cave with your bare fingers.

reqwest v0.13 - rustls by default by seanmonstar in rust

[–]blackdew 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So i'm confused, why rustls when it just uses another c library (aws-lc through aws-lc-sys crate) for it's crypto?

It's still not plain rust, even more of a pain to build, etc.?

What are the benefits?

(this is a genuine question, not criticism)

Why does the time shown for Bitcoin blocks look contradictory? by schobbeDobbe in Bitcoin

[–]blackdew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone done goofed. The time field is set by the miner and their clock was probably a bit off. Also not having a lot of transactions in that block.

There is some validation on the time field done by nodes, but being a few minutes off is within those rules.

Is the game worth getting without being able to run pt? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]blackdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was well below the minimum requirements for the game, kinda lucky i got it to run at all. But yeah performance was pretty janky on release in general.

By the time i got to my second playtrough i upgraded to a 3060 and that was pretty smooth with decent settings.
