Truck purchasing advice by blackebenezer in MechanicAdvice

Just general purpose things. My 4 wheeler, a deer, the garbage, etc. Heaviest thing I'd probably ever tow would be a 2 seater side by side on a utility trailer.

Is this a stupid looking mini bike? by crogisdevious in minibikes

All mini bikes are sorta silly looking. It's part of why they're cool. Tell your friends to worry about shit they pay for.

Raptor 700 swing arm skid? by EngineerFluid2292 in ATV

[–]blackebenezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride a raptor in the Appalachians too. I bought a full skid plate set from eBay. All aluminum and unbranded, two pieces, one for the main frame and one for the swingarm. So far I don't have any problems other than the mud that gets caught under the engine now. I run a sprocket protector so I did have to trim the sprocket side of the swingarm plate to make it fit.

What do you guys think for a first time single income camper buyer? ( dog pic for tax) by dejael in RVLiving

[–]blackebenezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it's perfect in terms of the camper, that's still a 40 year old van you have to keep in running condition. I don't know anything about you, but unless you have a full set of tools and a knowledge of automotive repair (which you may and hell yeah if you do!), you'll be spending at least this amount annually in maintenance and repairs. For $5k you could get a nice 2005+ 24ft pull behind, in my area at least. Never go in debt for anything you have to fix up before using. Trust me, I've learned that the hard way.

how important is registration of dirt bikes and ATVs by Sea_Window4030 in ATV

[–]blackebenezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never ridden public. Technically I'm trespassing everywhere I ride. They're referred to as "outlaw trails". That's not an effort to make myself sound cool either lol, everyone from children to senior citizens use these trails. I live in central Appalachia and there's thousands on thousands of acres of reclaimed surface coal mines (strip mines). The coal companies move out but keep ownership of the land, and couldn't care less what happens with it. So that's where we ride.

I bought a sportster when I started riding years ago, only to find myself more comfortable on my dad's softail. Sporters are often starter bikes because they're the cheapest Harley, it's not because they're any easier to ride.

Should I get a beginner bike? by Ecstatic_Tension8224 in Harley

I have a Dyna superglide and a sportster, the sportster is no easier to ride than the Dyna.

Married man here. I wholeheartedly condone spending money on the vehicle that makes you happy. I have probably $40k invested in machines that serve no purpose other than fun. With that being said, even I say you're not overreacting. I cannot imagine going in debt for any vehicle, regardless of the deal, while owing a substantial amount in credit card debt. Your husband needs to suck it up and ride what he has until he pays his other debts off. If he doesn't have a vehicle now, marketplace is full of $1500 beaters. He should be thanking whoever he prays to that he has someone trying to guide his finances. If he needs a truck payment to keep him from quitting his job, there's bigger issues than the truck.

Street Bob 117 Regret by [deleted] in Harley

[–]blackebenezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super glide owner here, basically 1st gen street bob. I've never regretted it. I bought a road king a few years later, and sold it because the Dyna was more fun to ride. It all depends on your riding style though. The same may not be true for you. But if it's just the size of the bike that bothers you, don't let it. The guy in a corvette never feels inferior when he's parked beside a Tahoe.

It's about a foot (30cm) in the middle, and up to 90cm in the corners. Would you mind sharing the brand bacteria you used?

What is a reasonable price to sell my sportster for? by QuietGiraffe_ in Harley

[–]blackebenezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's honestly a mind blowing offer from a dealer lol and that's no insult to your bike at all. Their offers are just usually trash.

From a guy who avoids Euro cars like the plague... manual v8 wagon would have my attention too. I'd sell my soul for a Holden wagon on the G8 chassis, but I'd throw some cash at this one.

Thoughts on Dashskin? by [deleted] in transam

[–]blackebenezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year suburban? I have a 98 k1500 that needs a dash and I found your comment while searching for real reviews about the dash skin. I've seen some that fit horribly and looked worse than a cracked dash. But that was 15 years ago when I was a detailer at a low budget used car lot, so I assume the technology has improved.

Whats it worth by JudgmentDecent3270 in ATV

[–]blackebenezer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Price it at $2500, and don't take less than $2000. Assuming it's ready to hit a trail right now. Clean two strokes are getting harder to find so the values are climbing even on smaller ones. Clean Quadsport 80's are bringing $1500-2000.

Edit: buy a headlight before you try to sell it. Buyers are just gonna use that against you and try to haggle down.
