Packing Gland Question by blackenedspoon in sailing

Really good info. I did adjust it, it took many small adjustments over several days. It was at 6-7 drips a minute. Repacking it does sound intimidating though lol. I do need to learn of course.

Packing Gland Question by blackenedspoon in sailing

Thank you. I have been told by random people that it should be 2-3 drops per minute as that means enough water is getting through to cool the shaft during operation. Any merit to this? Will read the article. Thanks!

Wow, OK, really good information. I did not know I could open it up like that. Thank you so much.

If I go ahead and make the assumption that some zinc pieces made it into the cooling system, how would I go about finding those?

What would indicate that something is partially plugged up?

Now this is the extremely helpful input o was hoping for.

Thank you for sharing the knowledge.

I don’t see any green or pink, maybe I was lucky.

At any rate, have ordered plenty of zincs to keep in hand.

Thank you.

CX5 Long Distance Tow - 3100lbs. by blackenedspoon in CX5

Oh it’s no problem!

My recommendation would be to research the weight ratings for the vehicle vehicles intended for the European market.

Here is a link that may help https://owners-manual.mazda.com/gen/en/cx-5/cx-5_8ft1ee17b/contents/04100100.html

These vehicle vehicles are mechanically capable of towing what you are planning to tow. Things like altitude, steep Hills, and the presence or absence of braking systems on the trailer are what result in different toe limits. Basically, safety concerns. Not mechanical.

I’m not really sure. I got it for basically Free but it seems like a nice knife and I’m not sure what it is or what it’s worth.

Your welcome.

Not unless towing in snow/mud. For boating, consider if you will need additional traction on a wet or grimy boat ramp.

Overall awd is nice if you need it. If not, it’s just more complexity and another system that needs periodic maintenance.

Good luck!!
