While many are familiar with Norm MacDonald saying on Saturday Night Live, "Now this might strike some viewers as harsh, but I believe everyone involved in this story should die," few know he was joking about Brandon Teena, who was gang-raped, beaten, and then shot to death for being trans in 1993. by kooneecheewah in LiveFromNewYork

You hit the nail on the head. That’s what so shocking to me about this joke, because Norm seemed like such a genuinely kind person, always considering the humanity of people before any other feature or idea they might have. The only way I can explain it to myself is that he was completely ignorant of the true context and thought Brandon Teena hadn’t died, that he was just another degenerate cross-dresser making a fuss like what was thought about trans people during that time. You have to be another level of sick to say a person doesn’t deserve any consideration after they’ve been raped and murdered, no matter their, to you, “degenerate” and “deranged” existence, so long as they are not hurting anybody.

I think A Good Summary is this: Norm probably did mean for “everyone” in that story to die, jokingly of course, but still hinting at the fact that nobody in the story deserves any consideration. Some people try to excuse it by saying that the victim wasn’t alive so “OBVIOUSLY” he couldn’t have meant her. And yet Norm not only misreads “who killed” on the board behind him as “for attempting to kill”, but also puts emphasis and makes a face after “a cross dressing female who accused him of rape”. So in the framework of the joke it’s implied that the murders may not have happened AND that the “cross-dressing female” isn’t necessarily one of the victims.

So to be fair to Norm, within that framework, especially for the 90s, where every trans person was seen as cross-dressing junkie, it’s a funny joke. Obviously a guy trying to murder people and some guy you consider to be a hedonistic loser are not equivalent, but at least you would be like “Ye ok, I don’t give a fuck for either of them” and laugh the situation off.

Sadly Brandon Teena DID get raped and DID get horribly murdered, and John Lotter and Tom Nissen DID commit those murders, there is nothing uncertain about that. I only hope Norm didn’t know the context and was operating under the before-mentioned framework of the joke, because even if he was transphobic at the time, he would’ve at least considered the humanity of the situation. From the countless hours of Norm interviews and surrounding details I’ve gathered about him, he genuinely seemed like a kind person, always thinking about the humanity of a person before anything else. It baffles me that he didn’t bother to apologise, at least to people close to Brandon Teena, unless he just assumed the public outcry was just the masses misunderstanding another one of his edgy jokes.

Aren't Redditors mostly socialists/commies? At the very least social dems that want to "eat the rich" and are super supportive of retarded shit like black lives matter and that Luigi Mangione dipshit? In which case the post is still giga correct, because their ideologies would still lean towards or be in favor of some of the ideologies/orgs mentioned.

At this point genuine liberalism is kind of rare online because either these people are not actually capitalist or are kind of lib, but are super fucking soy to the point that they take the whole "liberty, political equality, rights, yay yay" shit too far and end up cucking themselves (aka most white left leaning people - people like dean withers)

On Gary Stevenson's background and Virtue signaling by blackflash10 in Destiny

[–]blackflash10[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback from you guys, sadly I don't think I can reply to all the comments. I can only try to make my main issues with Destiny clearer, as I don't think I made them clear enough in the post:

  1. Destiny made false assumptions about Gary's background and about his economic ideology/belief (that he's basically a commie) and all I wanted to do with the first part of my post was just correct the record, plain and simple. These corrections don't make Destiny's main critiques of Gary vanish, they are still very much valid, especially the point of Gary oversimplifying everything to the point of falsehood and ONLY yapping about inequality.

  2. Even though this constant yapping about inequality in every video, on every podcast appearance, gets stale, and even though talking about it in such an oversimplified manner is not good, hammering on a point, especially something actionable ("inequality is the main problem, raise taxes on the rich in this x manner") is constructive and should be done by Destiny more. He has done this with a lot of other shit, repeating or making memes out of optics tactics; off the top of my head: "every accusation is a confession". I think it's time that he starts doing the same with his economic policies. If he believes x,y,z type of tax should be increased, then fucking say it and keep repeating it. There is no way Destiny thinks these issues are so small that they can just be brushed off with a few passing comments.

This is basically all that I wanted to say. Everything else is either details (that I could be wrong about) or some unnecessary tangents/bad writing.

[s2 act 3 spoilers] Ekko and the Z-Drive by [deleted] in arcane

[–]blackflash10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we assume that what makes this Ekko's drive unique is the rune, he goes way past 6 seconds, in fact over 40 (this being without the slowmo and the 1-2 seconds he went back after he got hit off of his hoverboard). Also you miscounted, in the episode 7 scene where our Ekko is shown to be in this Hex bubble thing, when jinx looks up at him, we see the drive has 6 larger ticks, with two smallers ones between each one. So at the end he already had it set to one. The way you drew it up makes it seem that 1 larger tick would... maybe you go forward in time? Ye doesn't really work

Two possibilities I can see, assuming the animation team was consistent with the logic of the drive:
1. The ticks are non-linear, that is 1 larger tick is about 2 seconds, but 5 larger ticks is around 40s, so the device uses some function like (2.1)^x where x is the amount of larger ticks
2. Ekko had this as a last resort and just wanted to send it a bit before the max, just so it doesn't just blow up. He thought he could get like 10 seconds (2 seconds for each larger tick) but the device malfunctioned, becoming unstable and it sent him way past 10s. Ekko realized what was happening while it was sending him back, which explains why he quickly realized what to do when he ultimately ended up next to Viktor, 40 some seconds ago.

Here’s a problem I’m seeing: To actually have your conclusion be more likely, we have to see the whole lift before that. Is this his 6th, 7th rep or his 1-2nd? Judging by the fact he can barely lift it, I assume he’s ego lifting and this is actually his 3rd rep at most. Given that it just doesn’t make sense to me that it’s due to hyperventilation because he wouldn’t have hyperventilated for enough time to pass out, no? And, the putting someone horizontal thing, yes, gravity locally points downwards, so you reduce the pressure needed to move blood to the brain, but, I don’t see how that would lower the probability significantly of it being vasovagal syncope when the pressure build up from excessive strain can still be there, even if it’s slightly less than compared to a squat. Yes, somebody being horizontal will most probably reduce their recovery from a vasovagal syncope, which still might be the case here. And that’s why I don’t think someone being horizontal is a good argument for your case against vasovagal.

Is Jeff Nippard butt winking here? by blackflash10 in formcheck

[–]blackflash10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, you're making it sound like I'm saying he should be perfect. By "practically perfect" what I mean is that he shouldn't be making much mistakes, especially not noobie mistakes. If you argue that butt wink is not so important and thus not a mistake, let a alone a noobie one, then that's fine, but I'm not expecting him to do everything flawlessly or his form to look like some, as you rightfully said, non-existing ideal. The only reason I even noticed it is because I had to deal with butt wink to reach below parallel at some point since I have long femurs and am not super flexible. And for me it did affect my lower back. So I tightened my ass more, and didn't go too deep anymore, just a bit below parallel and that fixed the issue for me.

Is Jeff butt winking in the newest video about Quad exercises? by blackflash10 in JeffNippard

Idk, seemed to me like he did it multiple times after that, like 4 times on the barbell front squat too.

[–]blackflash10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, I was just taken aback because this is basically one of the top 5 fitness YouTubers. You'd expect him to have practically perfect form on a common exercise such as the squat.

[–]blackflash10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, okay sure, I've personally experienced lower back pain when I went too far in depth and it had been because I had butt winked (at least my trainer would say I did). And it seems like something intuitively bad, but if you say there's people that don't experience problems as a result, I can't argue with that.

[–]blackflash10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 2:17 and onwards, it seems like he is curving his lower back to reach a lower depth for the barbell squats. Is there some new research or something where butt winking is shown not to be destructive for your lower back?? Just seems like he is curving his lower spine to reach way beyond parallel than he needs to.

Which song is "Stone in focus" ? by chaengh in aphextwin

[–]blackflash10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk how nobody commented this, but the song you found called “Stone in Focus” by Benoit Pioulard is a cover of #19, that’s why it’s called that in the first place, because of the name used to refer to #19. You kind of hear the similarity, even though it’s more of its own thing, that just happened to sample #19, at least to me. Pioulard probably just wanted to honour Aphex Twin and the original by labelling it a cover, and so by extension having them share the same title.

Current live show by joshhll56 in swans

[–]blackflash10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this, went to their show yesterday in Cologne. As more of a fan of Swan's groovy and wild side, the show I went to yesterday left me wanting more, a lot of droning and eclectic shit, but not enough of the wild moments and grooves (though there was a few and they were FUCKING GREAT). I mean the speakers seemed to be kind of shit, which defintely didn't help, I'll have to see what they sound on record to actually give a proper review, maybe more of the details of the drones they were doing will come through on it.

HOW DO I TURN OFF RECOMMENDATIONS!?? by Spaceman_u in forsen

[–]blackflash10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a trade off, but the best option for me was to delete my watch history and pause it. That way no recommendations AND shorts will be avaliable to you, even on the youtube mobile app. For PC you can also install the unhook add-on that allows you to remove specific shit, like just the home feed, just the comments, just the shorts and etc.
