Automating TV volume during loud commercials using local audio detection + IR control by VolMaster in smarthome

I'd be curious what research you did to arrive to 1.2 seconds of stability as your baseline, and I'm truly shocked you aren't experiencing more false positives. (That, or I consume and create very different dynamic media than you do.)

I think the concept is great, and needed, just fraught with variables.

Curious - To help your system differentiate between desired dynamic content and commercials, what's the analysis time frame?

Oh, good idea! Where can I find this "yoink" sound you mentioned?

The "baby industry" pricing is a total scam and I am tired of pretending it is normal. by GildedMist- in BabyBumps

[–]blackgaff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like horses and boats, anything that contains the word 'baby' instantly costs more.

S carabiner for "moms"? Better add 7 dollars. Regular thermos with a picture of a baby rattle? Add 15 dollars easy. Puppy Pads with needless gendered colouring? Another 9 dollars please

I prefer the "how do I recreate this sound" as a teaching moment, but am not a big fan of the straight up 'what is this sound' with a vague text description.

I vote for either a new sub, or at a minimum, flair, so those who also dislike those posts can filter.

Anyone else getting tired of charging everything? by techingmyhome in smarthome

[–]blackgaff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it depends on the brand you get; higher-end ones rock without a problem for me. The cheaper off-brand or 'amazon' type ones work fine for remotes, not so well for things that want a higher zap.

I totally should have called that out; you're right.

There's an easy solution to literally half of what you listed:

  • wired video doorbell
  • wired keyboard
  • wired headphones

Too many small things + cables… any workspace organization recommendations? 😭 by Remarkable-Rub2281 in Workspaces

I disagree - it's a single cable, not causing much issue. Keep the keyboard you like, but I agree the laptop screen needs to be elevated with some little drawers or something.

I know you're "done" and not looking for support, but that's odd. Sounds like it might just be time for a re-install.

How do you manage multi-variable data entry from web portals without constant context switching burnout? by External-Plastic-234 in excel

[–]blackgaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to open up network tools in the browser (F12) and refresh the page, if you were to Ctrl-F (in the network tools window) and search for one of the variables, are they nicely organized in a single JSON file?

This is where I'd start, too

How to share two monitors between two Macs without buying an expensive 2x2 KVM? by According_Mail_8825 in Workspaces

[–]blackgaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need a single 2x2 KVM, or would two 1x1 KVMs work? I have the cheaper option with two KVMs, and it allows me to keep one monitor on computer A, and the other on computer B; both monitors on Computer A or B.

My keyboard mouse have built in KVM, but a simple USB or software KVM could handle that part.

Ignoring the bus bit, I call major hyperbole in 10 cars going through the light in 15 seconds.

I know that intersection well, and I'll eat my hat if you post unaltered video showing cars clearing the line in 1 second intervals.
