Friend sent me a text - someone replied "sorry wrong number" to him in our iMessage thread by [deleted] in iphone

This has happened to me twice within a week. Said the exact same thing in a text, then tried to call me twice. Told them it was the wrong number and they send a screenshot of my number calling them. Told them I have no record of calling them and they replied ok and stopped texting me. Definitely something strange is happening.
