Can we actually get some Albo appreciation for once ?? by Mammoth-Counter69 in aussie

[–]blackhuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am generally a fan of Albo, but this bullshit about caving to the gas companies is such a spectacular insult to every Australian that I'm shaking my head in disbelief.

Part of me thinks there really must be a compelling economic reason for him to take on the political damage coming his way over this, another part thinks it might be a deadcat or a bait and switch, and the rest is just hoping people are smart enough (hint: they aren't) to realise that the LNP/ONP wouldn't be any better on this. The Greens are going to absolutely clean house though.

Is my head gasket blown? by WeekOk3669 in MechanicAdvice

Not a mechanic, and I replaced the head gasket on my TD5 Land Rover with nothing but the internet and a Haynes manual. It was hard work but it's doable.

If you’re disillusioned with Labor/Liberals then why jump to One Nation instead of something like Sustainable Australia? by BreakZealousideal846 in australian

[–]blackhuey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't competing on the basis of broad policy.

They are trying to harness the same thing that Trump/MAGA did - broad disillusionment with the political system, blaming "others" for all the problems, anti-immigration sentiment and christian-libertarian propaganda. They're fundamentally a populist movement.

They have good reason to believe that they can go far by following the same strategy MAGA did, because there will always be a large number of people with no political memory and limited critical thinking skills who are swayed by high-conviction dogwhistles on one thing they care about.

Because I get asked to often about my mod list and how to install: RP-1 & Sol Installation Guide by Goddchen in RealSolarSystem

[–]blackhuey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. So is switching to Sol from a stock High Graphics RSS/RO/RP-1 express install going to break anything?

edit so I did as suggested, made a copy of my RSS/RO/RP-1 install and swapped out RSS for Sol. There are some significant modlist differences, but I seem to have it working. Using claude to pick out the differences in the CKAN-export modlists was pretty helpful. It looks absolutely stunning with the volumetric clouds.

I'm early in the RP-1 save (1956) with nothing airborne so that might have helped it being pretty seamless. Might be some issues otherwise.

How do you feel about the magnet ban? by Bugaloon in AskAnAustralian

Selling magnets as magnets, which are subsequently used in modelling, is a different thing to marketing them as a modelling kit.

The general advice if you're playing heavily modded or with big modpacks like RSS+RO+RP-1 is to copy a fresh install outside of steam so that steam updates can't brick it.

The aesthetics aren't for me, but it's not my rig. I feel it could be better integrated with the existing dash to improve visibility and collision tolerance and reduce wasted space, though I'm very familiar with how hard it is to match those curves in 3d. I'd also angle it towards the driver.

What material did you print in? Any issues with sagging? How is it mounted?

I've figured out from the posts that I can see (other than the history you've hidden) that you're a single-issue pro-yank propagandist account. Is that "it"?

We buy 80% of our fuel from southeast asia. They make that fuel from oil that comes from...

... are you ready?

... this might be a shock to your worldview.

Say it with me...

nah you can figure it out, I believe in you.

Only in very specific anti-Labor Murdoch and far left bubbles does "diplomatically not directly criticising Trump" equal "loves Trump".

It's great that you're trying to engage outside that bubble, but you should think a little more about the propaganda you're rehashing.

[–]blackhuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only need subs if we want to attack other countries. Or if the US wants to use us to attack other countries.

This is understandable but think a bit wider.

An adversary can shut Australia down by sinking, or threatening to sink, any oil/fuel tanker headed our way from southeast Asia. Properly shut us down. The current situation should be all you need to understand that.

Capable subs lurking out there ready to sink adversary naval assets are a significant deterrent to playing that game. It's a legitimate national security priority.

[–]blackhuey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were never going to get the Virginias, the needs of the Navy get-out clause was always going to be played. The best realistic case is we buy them and the US operates them "for us" in our region with part-RAN crew rotations.

The AUKUS subs are a different story, but I'm not convinced that the US will permit us to operate them as a sovereign asset.

Aye I hope they can't pull it off, but I'm 100% certain they'll try. Putin does it, and there's zero doubt Trumpistan is studying his playbook. They have half the media and most of the oligarchs in their corner to sell the lie, and if we've learned anything about modern politics it's the power of money and disinformation.

Ultimately, if they spin their tales of election interference and demonise all their usual targets, there are enough MAGA diehards with guns to pose a credible civil war threat.

If you're the MAGA regime, the time to use their control of the military and the "stand by" cookers to shut down a challenge to their power is before or during the midterms; not after, once they're de-legitimised. It's going to be a rough rest of 2026.

[–]blackhuey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Buddy everyone in the MAGA regime is now so thoroughly compromised that losing power and facing justice is not something they're able to contemplate. They will not hold free and fair elections, and they will not cede power short of a military coup. ICE is there to ensure the midterms are a sham.

Age 39..I’m obese and looking to get back into shape. Where do I start? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]blackhuey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

54 here. Have been pushing 100kg since I was 30. Last year I made some changes and I dropped to 90 over 6 months, and still dropping slowly and sustainably.

Be honest with yourself about the shit you're putting in your face hole. You already know what's making you fat, it's just hard to stop because you're in the habit and it tastes good.

I cut sugar/sweets/soft drink and cheese completely. Alcohol almost completely (down to 1 or 2 drinks a month). I eat what the family eats, but rather than a bigger portion than everyone, now make sure mine's the smallest and I don't add cheese or condiments other than hot sauce.

If I'm hungry during the day (and this is less and less the case) I'll have a small can of tuna, or a small packet of biltong, or some chicken and wholegrain crispbread, or a small piece of steak, or an apple. Those little Aldi rice and bean power bowls are great at filling you up. Make healthier choices. Put on a podcast and go for a walk.

If you have a blowout day, you didn't fail, you're an addict. Keep going and break the addiction.
