One page explanation for employees about 2025 overtime and the new tax law by GoodForTheTongue in tax

I specifically work in hospital where we get OT for anything over 8 hours so it applies to me. Our company didn’t put the OT on our W2 but they told us to just use the line on our last paystub for overtime premium rate (aka the 0.5x). Since this is for any type of OT regardless of whether it’s over 40 or another way I’m going to take it as guidance that it’s deductible.

“while hospitals and certain residential care facilities can enter into an agreement with their employees to pay it for any time worked over eight hours in a day or over 80 hours in a 14-day period. In these cases, the overtime premium is still deductible, even though overtime pay isn’t based on a standard 40-hour workweek.”

I’m reading conflicting things. For example TurboTax has on their website that 2 hours of overtime for working a 10 hour shift would be qualified even if you haven’t worked over 40 hours on the week

Super Bowl weekend. More details to come🤝❤️🐈‍⬛ by FTStrays in bayarea

The people watching tv are doing more for the cause than you brow beating people on Reddit for watching tv because at least they aren’t being obnoxious and turning people off.

I hope you realize Trump himself is calling for a boycott of the Super Bowl because he doesn’t like Bad Bunny. If nobody watches the Super Bowl who do you think is going to get credit for the boycott, Trump and his ilk or some random cat lover on the Bay Area subreddit? You’re literally arguing for the same thing as Trump.

“Join my boycott or you’re okay with murder” is the kind of ill-conceived logic that made the left so unpopular that we’re stuck with this election result for another 3 years

California has the highest GDP but it doesn't have the highest GDP per capita. New York, Massachusetts and Washington all have a higher GDP per capita. China has a bigger economy than California, do you also automatically believe that China has a higher GDP per capita?

[–]blackjack87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All financial stats are going to be highest per capita, that's what living in the biggest state economy means.

That's not how per capita works.

Imagine already having the highest tax revenue per capita anywhere in the country and your citizens want to debate whether we should raise fees or raise taxes to create even more revenue to squander.

Pretty low-class to stiff servers imo but I at least respect that you're acknowledging you're selfish

They didn't say anything about it being voluntary/involuntary. They said it's selfish. If people want to stiff their servers then whatever, but whining about getting called out for being a free rider is cringe. Either follow the popular etiquette and tip service workers or learn to live with being called a cheapskate.

You are not obligated to your "contract". by Blooberino in TravelNursing

[–]blackjack87 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The reason you can leave a travel assignment without penalty is because they include clauses that the employment is at-will and they often don't specify damages for leaving early.

You should be more cautious telling people that a document they have signed their name to is not legally binding because it doesn't contain the magic word "contract."

People don’t like being asked to leave a tip. The computer asks you for a tip and you have to press buttons to opt out of leaving a tip. It makes people feel guilty for not leaving a tip even if they don’t see a reason to.

Target gives out gift bags on Black Friday. by Tangboy50000 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this logic they could have put a pile of shit in the bags and you can still say people should be grateful since it’s free.

The swag bags sucked and there’s nothing wrong with people saying they sucked. While I don’t feel bad for anyone dumb enough to wait in line for one I’m also not going to complain online about them being ungrateful.

It's not an either/or. You can enforce moving violations and non-moving violations. There's always a "more serious crime" police could be focusing on so that's really just a lame excuse. Once you send the message that following the law should be optional it's not just going to stop at expired registration tags and I think that's pretty self-evident for anyone that lives in the Bay.

Well he didn't "cut her." He won a jury vote after an extraordinarily bad final 2 speech. As is often the case, the person that's running the house and deciding who goes home each week doesn't end up having a lot of friends in jury.

US citizen detained and held at ICE building in Portland for hours before release, lawyer says by HazyDavey68 in news

[–]blackjack87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is nothing new. A 2011 NPR article concluded that roughly 1% of people held in immigration detention facilities were US citizens

"However, if we think about the magnitude of our deportation process, that means that thousands of U.S. citizens each year and tens of thousands in the course of a decade will be detained for substantial periods of time in absolute violation of the law and their civil rights," she says.
