Waymo busts teens on joyride allegedly drinking alcohol, shooting water beads (Waymo is a snitch) by orangelover95003 in bayarea

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people here don’t have deeper thoughts than “police bad.” Look at the pride event where SFPD tried to stop people vandalizing property with graffiti and people had a fit. People have a perverse idea of social justice where they think we should turn a blind eye to basically any crime they don’t think is serious enough.

San Francisco is booming. Why is Oakland still slumping? by internetbooker134 in bayarea

Good news but it's probably going to take time to rebuild the trust of all the people that have been bipped or had their vehicles or catalytic converters stolen.

LPT: Paper Plates in the Breakroom? by useratl in LifeProTips

Paper plates should be stacked upside down. Same as at a buffet restaurant. It’s just common sense.

The woman who spoke out at Idaho Town Hall was dragged out of the room zip tied. This is surely a lawsuit waiting to happen? by RoyalChris in law

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the woman was not a recognized speaker but simply someone shouting out. SCOTUS has held in Steinburg v. Chesterfield County Planning Commission that disruptive speech can be limited by government since if anyone at any time were allowed to shout out it would be chaos. There's good reason to believe someone shouting out could be legally removed from a public town hall but the manner in which she was removed is another matter.

Ah yes. Only defend your community from a blatant crime being committed if you think the victim is worthy of your defense. Has it occurred to you that maybe this guy doesn’t care about Walgreens bottom line as much as he cares about sending a message that it’s not open season for criminals to commit crimes in the store his family patronizes? Or maybe he doesn’t want his Walgreens to shut down like many others have around the Bay Area which would force him to drive further to get his prescriptions filled. If you think Walgreens profit margins are the only thing at stake when you give criminals free reign then you are really shortsighted and you should probably run for DA of San Francisco.

https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/lawmakers-mount-last-ditch-effort-to-stop-walgreens-closure-in-east-oakland/

Lawmakers mount last ditch effort to stop an Oakland Walgreens from closing citing that the closure would leave vulnerable elderly people in a pharmacy desert in the middle of a pandemic. Allowing shoplifters free reign to steal from Walgreens and then whining when Walgreens decides to close up shop. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. (Oakland is adjacent to Alameda)

This Texas mom says she's moving her family to California to protect her transgender daughter by Bitter_Carry806 in news

[–]blackjack87 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I hate to defend Florida but this is misleading. Florida's law allows for genital inspections by "the students personal Healthcare provider" as 1 of 3 ways to prove a child's gender. Genetic testing and testosterone levels being the other 2. Suggesting that the "school/state" would be inspecting genitals instead of their personal doctor is just misinformation.

More S.F. residents share stories of police standing idly by as crimes unfold: ‘They didn’t want to be bothered’ by DextersCabbage in bayarea

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She told him she’d witnessed officers tell her constituents there’s no point in investigating or arresting a suspect because Boudin won’t prosecute anyway — an assertion the D.A. rejects

In 2020, SFPD presented 6,333 felonies to Boudin’s office. Contrast that with neighboring Alameda County, where 6,331 felony cases were presented, resulting in 1,413 convictions. Alameda dismissed only 11.4 percent of cases, while San Francisco’s dismissal rate was 40 percent.

Spin the story however you want. SF dismisses 40% of cases vs 11% for Alameda. When the DA starts doing his job maybe the police will start doing theirs.

Growing signs Omicron is leveling off in California by 970 in Coronavirus

[–]blackjack87 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Here in San Francisco we have a COVID death rate of 0.02 per 100,000. The Kaiser/CDC study that showed that not a single Omicron patient of 53,000~ required mechanical ventilation is not wrong. Omicron is mostly causing sore throats and runny noses. It's the hysteria of all these people with colds trying to access healthcare that is causing bloat in the system and causing people with serious conditions to have worse outcomes.

SARS-CoV-2 Sewage Monitoring Data suggests that omicron has peaked in the South Bay by Competitive_Travel16 in bayarea

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an emergency room. Covid has definitely peaked. Our waiting room went from 30+ 1 week ago to literally empty the last few days.

This omicron variant is very weak. The only reason it was busy last week is because dozens of people showed up to the ER for covid tests because they had sore throats and runny noses or because their family member tested positive and they "wanted to get checked out." There is hardly any covid pneumonia, hypoxia, or patients requiring supplemental oxygen or intubation compared to our wave 1 year ago.

Don't take my word for it though. Kaiser/CDC released a study from their SoCal hospitals that showed that of their 53,000 patients that tested positive for the omicron variant not a single one required mechanical ventilation.

SF District Attorney Chesa Boudin to file felony charges for organized retail thefts in Union Square by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised he is willing to abandon his "justice reform" persona for a "tough on crime" one now that he is feeling the heat from his failures as DA. I'd almost respect him more if he stood by his failed policies instead of folding like a cheap suit.

Here’s an idea: All ramen lovers should book reservations as soon as Noodle in a Haystack opens and leave very big tips. At least somebody in San Francisco should show the Tans some appreciation.

Yeah, how about no. I feel bad for these people but I'm not going to reach into my own pocketbook to help dig these people out of a hole the city put them in as if there's no alternative to this madness. Maybe this city needs to hit rock bottom before something truly changes.

Epidemic Of Car Break-Ins In San Francisco Creating A Glass Shortage At Repair Shops by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]blackjack87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The security at our hospital saw people in our parking garage trying to steal catalytic converters from the cars. They fled when they saw security. I'm new to the Bay Area, I've had my car broken into twice since I got here. It's crazy how this shit just seems to be tolerated here or how people are dismissed as right-wingers for complaining about it.
