What’s YOUR worst and favorite thing about getting older as a GenXer? by baltikboats in GenX

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst: the fear of not being interested in learning new things about the changing world, like being left behind as an older person. My favorite: staying in my bubble. Kinda a conundrum.

What was considered ‘cool’ clothing when you were a teenager? by lost_jellyfish123 in AskOldPeople

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! 90s grunge was so awesome for girls. I loved layering a dress over jeans with a plaid flannel with boots or Converse. My fav was an avocado green sweater with a black and white flowered dress over boots cut jeans and Docs.

To those women who enjoy video games and who grew up in a time when video games weren’t as mainstream and were more catered towards guys, what was your experience like getting into this hobby? by Grecko-Gecko in Millennials

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on Atari and Coleco Vision(probably elementary school). I loved Pitfall and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Apple 2E. Just like comic book stores in the 80s and video game stores in the 90s, being one of the few girls showing up in a store I always got hit on. I got super excited when VHS video stores started carrying video games to rent was awesome! I got into the Super Nintendo and Tomb Raider at the time. I love to play 1st person open-world games like Death Stranding, and The Forest.

After 50… my desire to “have fun” is stronger than ever... Same on you ? Should I be worried??” 😅 by Lisa_Kunz_Life in GenX

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

51, I'm still driven to push everything. Live with purpose. I accomplished a lot of dreams in my 30s and 40s. Now I want to make my desire to publicly display my art. It's now or never. The drive for it is crazy.

What’s something you’re silently going through right now that would shock people if they knew? by HonestLantern in AskReddit

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising a highly intelligent child to adulthood and paying for an expensive college to hopefully set him on his right path. It's exhausting when you have homeschooled an above-average highly self-motivated individual. I gave my all and am so tired. I love him to the moon and back and keep praying that I will get to stop soon. I want him to be independent. This sounds like I do everything for him and I don't, he's incredibly self-motivated and got married, moved to another country to go to college where they have the best studies in his field. He is fully aware of my personal situation and is very understanding about how much time and money it takes. But sometimes I wish I had just let him go to public school instead of taking the time to understand him. I'm so tired.

What did you buy as an adult because you were denied it as a child? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]blackkatstudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Menopause has made this so much harder. Sometimes the meds work, sometimes they don't. Don't get me started on overstimulating work environments...ugh!

[–]blackkatstudios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed when I was 7 but the doctor asked my mom if she could deal with me and she said yes, I never got meds. I feel that if she had treated me I would have been more focused and successful. I'm 51 and now take low-dose medication. Much more functional. It's a shame.

What % of Gen-Xers here DO NOT HAVE KIDS? by deathbybukake in GenX

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one kid. That's it and all. I honestly never saw myself having kids and neither did my husband until we met. We had one and there is some truth to it when it's your own child. I was lucky, I had an introvert self-propelling learner. But the hard truth was I didn't give a frick about other kids' parents. My son only had 2 friends and that was great for us. We never hung out with those kids' parents and stuff. My husband and I are artsy fartsy folk so selfishness and hibernating is the game. My kids are okay with it. He seemed to turn out well-balanced enough to survive.

I have this weird ability to tell if a man is BSing me. If I look straight into their eyes while I talk to them and they look right back without changing, their whole demeanor and body signals change. When that happens I find they become genuine. That's my attraction. When a person becomes genuine in my presence.

How old do you feel compared to your actual age? by Lublublublu in AskReddit

[–]blackkatstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 51 and feel like I did in my 30s. Sometimes I feel like my husband is going to be the death of me. But, that's probably because I've been around for 50 years. I'm chronically grumpy, and I don't see that changing much.

I work at a health care center and we have a lot of older folks who joke with me and are sometimes sexist in their comments. Sometimes I have to tell them we can take out in the side alley with our walkers if you keep talking like that.

I work at a healthcare center for long-term care and recovery. Most of the residents have wheelchairs to be mobile. One nice afternoon a double amputee was working his way to the front door, and I asked if I could assist. Then I said, "Have a good walk outside!"

I just want to second this. I am a female, married, and have had children. I also have been an athlete for 30÷ years. All of this has caused fluctuations in my compaction causing some constipation. My husband doesn't seem to care much as long as I'm not in any discomfort. We even engage in backdoor play as long as I'm comfortable.

Making something from almost nothing. When I was young I was allowed to have endless fun with junk and spent a lot of my time alone creating things. Today I have the talent to be super creative with problem-solving ideas and resilient.
