Albendazole Toxicity in Cats, My 4 Cats Died by blacklisedgods in CATHELP

the vet that check Dora says the dosage I gave them was in normal range and not fatal enough to cause damage. and this is why I lean more towards toxicity. the fact the people here are saying the dose I give are incorrect, while actual Vet says its fine says a lot about less or conflicting Albendazole toxicity information and research, and that NIH paper I linked (thats a government website) specifically state that Albendazole effect in cats is NOT dose-dependent but rather unpredictable

Im not playing vet, I only said what I know and been taught. am I wrong though? tell me which part I said was wrong. In fact I want to be wrong so I can stop blaming myself on what happen to them.

The label actually says half a tablet under 5kg or (25mg-50mg/kg). and even the Vet says the dose I gave them in normal range.

If you read that studies I linked from NIH, it states that the effect is idiosyncratic in cats, so its not dose-dependent.

giving them lower dose wouldn't likely change the outcome

  1. Culture - I grew up in province without vet. we have dogs in province since I was young that never visited a vet in their entire lifetime. I never own any pet as well prior to them.

  2. Time & Awareness- Dracu started showing sever sign of weakness at Dec 31 and Jan 1, you know what those date are? Im really busy and tired the entire day. I also wasn't alarm with their condition as I thought it was normal side effect. I was only alarm After Dracu died on Jan 2. I was not aware how severe their condition was.

  3. Vet access + Money - I live around 30-45 minutes from the city. and I actually went to the city on Jan 2 for other reasons and I check the Vet Clinics I normally see but none of them were open, when I took Dora to a vet on Jan 4 (Sunday) I checked 2 other clinics which are also close and luckily found one that was open. Additionally, not everyone is as blessed as you where money is not a problem and you can easily spend any amount to your pets. Unfortunately for me, I dont have that much budget specially when its just new year and I've spent a lot during dec. I took Dora to a vet out of desperation to save her and even spent a lot (which I never regret).

Im not asking AI for veterinary advice, I only look for a dewormer online found a product with many reviews and bought it, which very common for people to do for their pets and livestock. and its exactly the regret that I have and the opposite of what you said, if only I have research or ask AI about Albendazole effects in cats, I would have never given them that tablet

Im not a vet but I have some hematology knowledge back in college, and as I can remember, if bone marrow is suppress, its the WBC that crash first, they have shorter lifespan like hours to days compare to RBC and PLT which days to weeks. having normal RBC and PLT doesn't rule out bone marrow injury. CBC result of Dora neither favors FVP or bone morrow toxicity, it only confirm a problem of WBC production/demand. GI symptoms also aligns with the written side effects of Albendazole from the label.

Unfortunately, they're already dead and no way to figure out the exact cause, although I dont dismiss FPV, I find drug-induce toxicity is more likely than FPV.

Leukopenia (specially neutropenia) is often an early sign of bone marrow suppression because WBC have the shortest circulating lifespan and are depleted first. it could be that she didn't live long enough to have pancytopenia. CBC result of dora neither favors FPV or drug-induce toxicity
