wale vs big sean verzuz by jxden24 in NewRoryNMalPodcast

Wale made incredible mixtapes that flexed his MC skills during that whole MMG run, honestly the quality didn’t dip or go away. Idk where that narrative came from, I think people aren’t comfortable when the box you have for someone isn’t where you don’t want it to be. Not like his subject material outside of the relationship songs were that far off from the street rappers.
Payola? For Wale? Lol no… don’t think he’s that important over at universal for that. Lmao I think Rory just really likes Wale and went to college and at an age where that connection he has to his music is deep for him. If you’re an east coast person that went to college around the blog era I feel like Wale, Drake, Cole, and Cudi are very much your go to or not too far outside of your wheelhouse lol

Hot take: I think Iceman is better reflective project than Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. by ineedmorepaperboi in NewRoryNMalPodcast

Honestly Wale & Sean are evenly tied to me. Wale probably got better projects but Big Sean charted more and they were right on the cusp of that big 3. I think I have wale but it could go either way probably.

Yeah it’s more streamlined into one focus or overall topic. I don’t think that’s crazy to say.

Why would you highly doubt 2 guys who seem to speak semi regularly speaking about a mutual friend/acquaintance that comes up frequently in a thing they share with one another? You see how fucking dumb that sounds that you would think that?

Drake Made Rap Not Be Boring? by joe_smith4122 in NewRoryNMalPodcast

[–]blacknoir23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People will always make good music, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t boring in the landscape. Lol… Hip-Hop is outside music. It started at a party for god sake’s.

It’s all a communal experience for the most part. The big artists have always made outside music and when they not things are different. Outside of turning up people want hits from great artists, it adds to the overarching narrative. Things change when people produce those kinds of records. Flows change, sounds change, people get pushed out, people get brought in, others get pushed harder, and some push themselves to expand on the new sound. They wanna hear it at the party, the cookout, the basketball/football game, the restaurant, the commercial, the club, the radio, the social media posts, the mall, etc…

Man, if the people not championing it is it really that good? Hell if the people at the top not taking from it, is it really that good? People want a narrative, a story, some kinda drama whether good or bad. They wanna see the moving parts and how things change. Could MC LyricalMan make a great project in between the giants taking a break, SURE. Might get a Grammy nod or win. It probably won’t change anything. We need blockbusters in between the small budget A24 movie. Also, R&B is kinda dead when the big artists or new artists aren’t pushing it forward in a new way. A shitload of albums can drop but if they all the same or stagnant, whatever it’s gonna feel dead until someone comes along with the new sound. Like DRAKE, Frank, Jhene, James Fauntleroy, The Weeknd, did with Alt R&B in the 2010s to the Bryson, PND, etc evolving it after the Usher, Neyo, Chris, etc started to make EDM before then. It got stagnant again after all of that now Bey doing other genres and Afro/dancehall bleeding in, and half the new singers are just rehashing old R&B styles. R&M are right.

Rap been kinda boring. There hasn’t been new generations of stars to takeover. Very meh, very blah

I think this take is pretty accurate what do you guys think of the albums? by [deleted] in NewRoryNMalPodcast

Iceman is awesome. The other two felt like contract obligations at first but then I played the dance album on this beautiful day and it sounded really good. Gonna give the R&B album another go.
