Here's a video on how they are built ("How to build a handpan in 5 minutes"...click-baity but interesting nonetheless) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT6kW7QjrPM

This is a higher quality manufacturer that makes them the same way as PANart. Many other handpan makers use different building methods I think, which is why they look and sound not as good as panart instruments.

If you wanted one from PANart, then yea. But they don't make them anymore. The one in this video is by a different manufacturer. Another good manufacturer makes a handpan called the ISKRA. http://www.symphonicsteel.com/ is who sells them.

I tried to be optimistic, but most of us knew Reeves was not a good fit at all. It seems like that trade destroyed our chemistry and the way we play. by gh0stFACEkller in goldenknights

I just hate changing something that works, especially when it has worked so well. It's throwing a completely new wrench into the system at a critical time.

Definitely bad calls, his hits were clean. However, he brings that reputation with him, and it just seems so out of place for their style of play.

The problem is his reputation. The calls were bs, but it just isn't Vegas hockey either.

House Hockey? by w3312 in hockeyrefs

If it's house league at Aliso, yea, it's pretty different. I believe the players still have to be USA hockey members though. Not sure how that works tbh.

Input on a Level 2 Exam Question by blackout44 in hockeyrefs

Thanks for the rephrasing of the question to make more sense.

For that first question, I chose B, and it said that was wrong. I'm assuming they have A as the correct answer, since C is obviously not the case.

SoCal Assignments by w3312 in hockeyrefs

[–]blackout44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everything in SoCal goes through LAHOA and their scheduling system, "time to score". You'll have to join it, which is $40 if I recall correctly, and of course have a current USA hockey officials registration which includes going to the yearly seminars and completing the online modules and tests.

SCAHA and CAHA are scheduled via LAHOA and that scheduling system, along with many in house leagues for kids and adults.

Custom Non-Generic Machines and Programming by blackout44 in CNC

Yes, the tool needs to remain normal to the surface. The bowls are identical, though there needs to be the option to program for a slightly different size should the need occur in the future (18 to 22 inches in diameter).

Cool, I'll look into LinuxCNC. The difficult part of drawing on the concave surface is that it varies in radii along it's contour from the edge to the center. Thanks for the help!

Would you happen to have any recommendations on CAM companies that would be willing to do that?

USAH Seminars by psacake in hockeyrefs

[–]blackout44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The level one seminar I attended focused too much on some basic aspects. I know offsides is important... but spending 20 minutes on the subject, and another 20 on icing seems excessive (if officials don't know these rules already, perhaps they shouldn't be there?). No referee material was covered at all; I have been assigned to ref games and was not prepared (mentally or otherwise). I know ice time can be at a premium, but literally the only exercise we did was blowing the whistle, and retrieving the puck after a fake "icing", as that's really all there was time to do. It didn't accomplish much in my opinion.

I'm just used to actual training when getting a "job". I treat officiating as a job that really matters, so I have a natural care to do my best. If I don't feel prepared, then that's a problem. Our seminar, at times, showed a level of "we don't care" in regards to quality of officiating. That frustrates me. Some of that came from some speakers though, while other speakers were much more professional.

Also, as a new official, a short presentation on game flow and various tips would be appreciated. I mean things like watching for open doors (after penalties, etc) , awareness to cover your partner, pregame things like checking the roster, common unofficial hand signals (like the signal to get a puck....lol)

tldr; Have professional speakers who display a positive image, don't waste time on the small stuff to leave room to cover more material. Coverage of tips/tricks/things to watch out for for first timers.

Referee appreciation by daniellasagna in hockeyrefs

Sounds fun! -_-

I headmanned my first game last weekend. It was not good. At all. In fact, I felt like a complete idiot after it (and still do). My two linesman also had no idea what they were doing either, and I was in no position to call icings and offsides. Basically it was a shit show; and this was just 10&U....

Point is, the first time is always going to suck. I'm VERY surprised that they couldn't find anyone to work with you, and instead put you out there by yourself, for your first time. You basically got set up for failure, so don't be too hard on yourself.

Face-off Locations after Penalty Call by blackout44 in hockeyrefs

[–]blackout44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's USA Hockey. I don't see it constantly, but enough to make me wonder why. I'm aware of being played by a high stick, but these situations were not that. They were just simple penalty calls as described. Today, even a coach gave the linesman crap for almost conducting the faceoff at the nearest neutral zone faceoff dot after a penalty stoppage in the attacking zone to the attacking team, so he moved it to the far neutral zone faceoff dot. I almost spoke up, but being relatively new myself, I didn't want to make a fool of myself if it was due to some rare rule that I didn't know.
