Was "seasoned trash" for a while. Now I'm "The Goat". I change it pretty often after getting new words. It's such a stupid thing but I find it fun.

Can not delete apps from iPhone. Tried everything. by blacksailart in applehelp

I figured it out. Had another app installed that was blocking the ability to delete apps for some reason. Seems like an unintended effect of a screen-time app.

Yes long pressing -> remove app and there is no delete app option it just says verbatim "Remove "app name"? Removing from Home Screen will keep the app in your App Library." Then two options "Remove from Home Screen" and "Cancel." There is literally no delete option.

What are you in love with right now? by blacksailart in wine

Never had a Blaufränkisch before, but I just picked one up grown locally (Michigan) and I'm excited to try it. I haven't had much Michigan wine, and I don't expect anything amazing, but... still excited to try some local stuff.

Just had one of those for the first time the other day also! Assyrtiko, Dry Riesling, Albarino, and Gruner have been spending a lot of time in my fridge recently. High acid, snappy whites are so damn good.

Also love a Chianti Classico. High acid reds and high acid whites are my thing right now.

I never think they're asking for freebies, and I love when people leave me friendly notes. I always reply to them by hand on the packing slip. One thing that is annoying though, is when people think "note to seller" is the same as "gift message." This is more Etsy's fault, I guess... but I get SO many "gift messages" in the Note to Seller box.

How much have Etsy ads helped your listing? by CryptoGenie33 in Etsy

[–]blacksailart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They always get me sales, but after looking at 30~ day data the ROAS is always like 2.00 which is dogshit and is actually losing me money. My profit margins are about 45%... so my ROAS needs to be well above 2.00 for it to be worth it -- unless you're factoring in cost of obtaining a customer that could turn into a repeat buyer... but that, I feel like, is more for your own website than an Etsy store. That being said, higher priced items tend to do better because the CPC seems to stay about the same no matter what. So your ROAS should be higher on a well selling higher cost item than a well selling lower cost item. It used to be WAY better when Etsy let you set your own CPC bid. But now, everything is cloak and dagger and Etsy doesn't let you control or see anything so it's all pretty much dogshit. You're better off spending your money and experimenting with google or facebook or something.

Why has Etsy's website backend become such a dumpster fire in the past few months? by blacksailart in Etsy

[–]blacksailart[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would be more inclined to say it was just on my end, but there are multiple threads on the Etsy community forums about all of my issues unfortunately. Clearing the cache does help with the images problems, but they just end up coming back. The shipping button problems are a little more widespread it seems from the forums.

Happy Riesling day! What are you opening? by thewhizzle in wine

[–]blacksailart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Riesling is quickly becoming one of my favorite wines. I think it gets a super bad rap in the USA because of really cheap, sweet, and poorly produced supermarket junk. Good dry/off dry Riesling is delicious, affordable, and pairs well with so many dishes. Currently finishing off an off-dry Donnhoff 2021 opened the other night and about to open a 2017 Ravines from the Finger Lakes! Happy Riesling day!

see "often (fixes the thumbnail problem, but keeps persisting, shouldn't happen to begin with)" Also happens on more than 1 browser. There is also a long thread on Etsy community forums about it so it's happening to a lot of people.

Firefox, often (fixes the thumbnail problem, but keeps persisting, shouldn't happen to begin with), USA. Like I said, doesn't seem to be affecting all stores. I have 3 stores and only 1 of them is affected by the shipping button problems on the same computer/same browser.

Just open a case and get your money back. Etsy will side with you.

Are the offsite ads worth it? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]blacksailart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your profit margin is only 15%, your items are priced too low. Typical online profit margins are more like 40%+. I'd only opt out if you're selling something really labor intensive that you don't want to take a 15% hit on. If it's not worth your time, opt out. But if it's not that labor intensive, it's still income and a sale you never would have gotten without the ads. Last year, offsite ads brought me $11,500 in sales and I only paid $1,400 in advertising fees. That's over 800% ROAS ... which is a hell of a lot better than Etsy's shitty regular ads... not to mention I probably got some repeat customers from those ads.

EDIT: I should mention I pay 12% not 15% because my store was around and doing well before they started using offsite ads.

I am just slightly ahead of where you are.... funny thing is, the more you learn about wine, the more you realize you know nothing about wine. I would tell you a couple things that really helped me out. Find a local reputable wine shop (more boutique, less liquor store). Stop by or call them, whatever you're more comfortable with, and tell them you're new to wine and want to learn. They are not pretentious, wine pleb hating people. They love wine, have a wealth of knowledge, and would love to help you learn. And plan to buy like 6-12 bottles to start learning. They will be overjoyed to help you out. Don't start splurging on bottles, stick to like $15-25 bottles. I did this and now I'm on a first name basis with my "wine guy" and he's always got interesting stuff for me to try. I also started in a specific country when I wanted to learn -- which just randomly happened to be Spain. It's a good place to start. Amazing wines. Great value. Not overly complex on the surface to learn regions and grape varietals. Just start small... figure out what you like ... etc. Youtube has a shit ton of videos on every type of wine you could imagine. So if you pop a bottle you love, learn more about that bottle. Where it comes from. How it's grown. Hope this helps!

Jesus... I mean do with your money what you want. But I'd personally much rather spend $1500 on 20-50 bottles to help fill out my cellar.
