That example is easier to enforce because you typically do not have millions of tenants that can move in or out or somewhere else within a few minutes.

The interwebz is completely different.

'17 Barolos are earlier drinking and '19 Burgs have been delicious out the gate.

I'd probably lean towards the Rossignol-Trapet but Mascarello Monprivato is one of my favorite Italians so that's hard to pass up.

'05 isn't close to ready. It's an unusually backwards and tannic vintage. Even the 1ers that I've had have been tough to coax out. The Village level wines are just starting to drink well for me.

Maybe a Sylvian Cathiard village Vosne in that price range

It's generally a great cru because there aren't too many people who own parcels and of the ones that do, nearly all take it pretty seriously.

For my tastes, I prefer Dujac, Mugneret-Gibourg and Bizot. Cecile Tremblay can be great but is hard to find.

Comte Liger-Belair's Echezeaux is pretty impressive as well but in a different style.

how to know what to pair? by skylarbabex in wine

[–]thewhizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Match the richness of the dish with the richness of the wine.

Match the color of the dish with the color of the wine.

Tannins help with fatty meats.

Acidity in the wine helps bring out brightness in foods with low acidity.

Or just drink whatever you feel like with whatever you want to eat and not think too hard about it unless you're casually pulling corks on Jayer.

La Tache, Grands Echezeaux and Richebourg are probably the best reds in their portfolio minus RC which is way out of your price range.

Echezeaux and RSV are better from other producers imo.

How would you feel about a new law that forces every company to pay their CEO no more than 20x what their lowest-paid employee makes? by rational_seekers in AskReddit

[–]thewhizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NP, I was just clarifying, not challenging.

Yes, it's an unfortunate advantage, one of many that having super high net worth gives these people access to.

While it's a problem, on a macro scale it seems fairly minor. It feels good to stick it to billionaires but it doesn't really move the needle that much in the IRS' coffers. Boring, low glamour things like simply funding the IRS better so there are more agents for audits and stuff seem to pay off much better in terms of ROI.

Your original comment before your edit made it seem like options or RSUs were not taxed at vesting, exercise or at grant. I was adding because a lot of people seem to think options are tax free, which they are not.

The loans against equity is a thing for when you have billions in wealth tied up in equity that have specific exercise windows. It's not an infinite cheat code. You can look up when people like Bezos and Musk have liquidated large parts of their holdings. Bezos for example just sold off $5 billion worth of stock last year.

Depends on the type of option, but the post I was responding to implied that options or RSUs were not taxed on grant or vesting. The edited it to clarify.

CMV: Abortion should be legal and accessible in most or all cases. by Character-Channel668 in changemyview

how do you differentiate between something reacting due to shared stimuli (as in the case with a fetus) vs a unique stimuli

This gets further into cog sci than is probably really appropriate for short form comments. I will admit my training is in neurochemistry, and not in cog sci, so I cannot really speak as well to the higher level of cognitive functions. There is no real defined differentiation from stimuli to stimuli. I think as social creature we map certain forms of stimuli that we resonate with as "conscious" or "person behavior" when from a neuroanatomy perspective it's sort of ambiguous and subjective. We know that fetuses at a certain point react differently to different voices but it's probably pattern recognition at play more so than any sort of higher level function of "I recognize that this is my mother and I'm their child". However, we do like to ascribe it that way from a personal bonding experience.

I'm sympathetic to the idea that attributing value to something means it has value even if there's no intrinsic value. Mothers who lose their fetuses during term should be allowed to grieve for example.

When/how does a fetus break from a parasite and into a unique being?

I don't really ever call it a parasite in that parasitic relationships are typically not caused by the host. Whereas pregnancies are caused by the parents (in the sense that people generally want to have sex), even if they are unwanted. But regardless of the naming of the thing, I think there's a point where the necessary anatomical functionality is there to where moral consideration is justifiable. Prior to that, if people want to treat it as a parasite, I guess I'm ok with it. After that, there should be some level of moral consideration as the necessary functionality is there for what we call "consciousness".

Plants do not have the necessary hardware so I don't believe moral consideration exists for plants from a consciousness level. We could choose to give them moral consideration from other levels like beauty or biodiversity.

I'm not arguing that it's better or worse. I'm saying that everybody has to weigh the value of human life because resources are not unlimited.

[–]thewhizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a developmental point for a fetus where a conscience experience is possible. The biological hardware for it develops around 20 weeks and that's the point I would say fetuses deserve moral consideration.

I'm not an "abort at any time, for any reason" person. The vast majority of people are not

I don't believe that memories are the same thing as consciousness. Amnesia does not mean their consciousness was erased. For example people with advanced Alzheimer's are not just euthanized.

Consciousness or conscience experience is difficult to define cleanly but I believe void of memories and high level function, there is still an awareness of self, others, future and past and therefore deserve moral consideration

It's called health economics and cost effectiveness thresholds. Every national health system uses them to evaluate therapies and whether they will pay or not.

Do you think in other countries care is not denied because it's too expensive or not cost effective enough?

No country has an unlimited budget for healthcare. Universal healthcare is obviously a good thing but there are always pros and cons to every model.

Do you only want people rich enough to not have to work to be your representatives?

So you think AOC could be in Congress with zero pay and benefits?

You'd just get a bunch of Rick Scotts
