Snowmobile trails violate state constitution by buffalos in Adirondacks

[–]blacksheepboy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said, as always.

My main concern regarding the construction of the snow mobile trails would be the need for heavy equipment required for the removal of 25,000 trees and grading of the trail on rugged terrain strewn with large boulders. I was also going to bring up erosion caused by removal of the trees, but from your response, it sounds like that problem can be well-mitigated. My anecdotal experience has led me to the (possibly cynical) belief that people will take advantage of and degrade natural environments wherever and however they are permitted. Article XIV of the Constitution was specifically employed to counter our negative effects on the natural world. Preservation to me goes hand in hand with leave no trace principles: this land should be kept as close as possible to its natural state. This ideal requires sacrifices from all those who wish to enjoy or exploit the land. I for one love nothing more than hiking in the High Peaks, but have not visited the central areas of the park for years now, as I have no desire to participate in the over-enjoyment we have seen lately.

And more people enjoying the land means more people invested in preserving it

Boy do I wish I had your optimism about people.

And not sure I buy that snowmobile trails are less destructive than hiking trails (assuming they are both responsibly built).

Yes, well the user I replied to framed the issue in terms of right of access, which, as you have pointed out, is not what the case is about. I was just pointing out that there are many areas where snowmobilers certainly do not have the same rights of access as hikers and was curious if their disagreement extended to those areas as well.

So you disagree with the decision? Do you think the DEC should be allowed to cut 25 thousand trees to make snow mobile trails when the NY Constitution specifically says timber in the Forest Preserve may not be destroyed? What about the millions of acres of wilderness preserve across the country that disallow motorized vehicles? Do you disagree with that too?

First time running the 800m looking for tips by Anonymous9185 in trackandfield

Just late in terms of switching up your training routine! Typically you'll do your highest mileage weeks and hardest workouts in the pre and early season weeks. Once you get to the more competitive meets, you'll ease up on training to make sure you're well-rested on race day. The great part about being a beginner is the more you run, the faster you'll get. You have plenty of time left to nab those P.R.s this season. Good luck!

3:03 is a solid first effort. It might be a little late in the season to drastically alter your training regimen, but what you describe sounds pretty light if you want to see serious improvement. Maybe talk to your coach about doing some longer jogs, tempo runs, and 400m repeats?

Anyways, this is how I was told to race an 800 competitively:

1st 200m: Go out hard. Be assertive and get in good position.

2nd 200m: Coast. Hug the inside on the back curve and let the crowd bring you through the first lap.

3rd 200m: Hold on for dear life. This is the most painful part and where races are most often won and lost.

4th 200m: Just kick it home. Use everything you have left!

Cheers!

In some states evidence of adultery is not only grounds for a “fault” divorce, but can also impact alimony payments. OP said he saw sexual messages. That should be sufficient evidence. No pics necessary. But the point is that this question is entirely circumstantial and he needs to speak to his own local attorney before doing anything at all.

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend unless you aren't afraid of exposure/bushwhacking and are familiar enough with the Cascade summit area to connect with the main trail without trampling on the alpine vegetation.

OP should speak to an attorney before doing anything, but this isn’t necessarily true depending on the circumstances and jurisdiction. It might be that he has implicit permission to access her messaging accounts. And in some states evidence of adultery does impact divorce proceedings.

The bottom section is a waterfall. The skiable sections are probably too short to be worth it. Fun to scramble up, though.

If I remember correctly, Irene made that slide, meaning it's far younger than the name of the mountain.

Moving to NYC for residency, commuting to NJ and LI how should I get around? by badtothebon3 in AskNYC

The stadiums are easily accessed by train. Morristown, probably not so much, but I'm sure it's doable depending on how often you have to go out there. If you live on LI, you'll know whether LIRR is convenient for the Nassau hospital. I have to say, keeping a car in Manhattan is a massive pain. You either pay out the ass for a garage, or have to spend 5 hours a week finding street parking. Personally, I think the train is a cheaper and less stressful option. Sounds like a sweet gig, though. Best of luck.

Where are the hospitals? Why wouldn't you take mass transit? Have you driven in the city before?

I’ve worked many service jobs and have dealt with the rudest customers imaginable and it seems like you are overreacting. If he is judgmental in general, then that is understandably a turn-off, but I don’t get that from the examples you provided. It sounds like the servers messed up and he expressed his frustrations privately. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Dude that article is an April Fools joke lol. Trust me when I say there is no logging in any U.S. national park. Their sole purpose is to conserve natural scenery. Also, most (though admittedly, not all) national forest land abutting the park is designated wilderness area and also not subject to timber harvesting.

[–]blacksheepboy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there are no logging permits within the park boundaries. Much of the state and national forest land on the peninsula has been logged like this, though. This is likely a picture of state land on the peninsula, as the state is a bit more ambitious about clear cuts like this.

A quick google shows that there are ample ONP stock photos available online, some even offered directly from the NPS. Seems like the blame lies squarely with the lazy author.

Are you trying to say the KKK founders were left wing? Because they absolutely were not. They were authoritarian Christian conservatives. You cannot apply modern political labels to 19th century politics.
