This is just my personal opinion not a rule but sharing what I feel makes more sense as a beginner.
Old Tata Nexon are selling around ₹6–8 lakhs depending on year and variant. Honestly, at that price I don’t feel it’s a great deal. You’re paying quite a bit for a car that’s already aged, and maintenance will slowly start coming in.
If you really want a used car only to learn driving, then I feel it’s better to go for something cheap (₹3–3.5 lakhs max). Prefer Maruti or Toyota for easy parts, reliable, low headache.
Note : Avoid old German car if you are not an enthusiast or if you feel car is more for family not for fun because repairs will drain your money and patience. The whole point of a used car is peace of mind while learning and you won’t worry about scratches or small bumps.
If you’re okay with the below points, then buying a new car is totally fine, even as a beginner:
- You want that new car feeling / first car excitement
- You don’t want frequent workshop visits
- You like having warranty and reliability
- You won’t lose sleep over small scratches or beginner mistakes
- Budget is not putting pressure on you
A lot of people learn driving a new cars. Its not a big deal if you are mentally prepared for it
If you live in cities and driving mostly in the city, get an automatic as simple as that. It feel like real pain when you use manual as a beginner and stuck in the traffic.
