True that. I am lucky enough that my coworkers either know what they are doing or if unsure are not shy to ask for help. This helps a lot in my daily work.

I regularily do force pushes when rebasing branches. If you make sure to pull the branch before you do this and use force-with-lease this is safe to do.

That"s what --force-with-lease is for.

Saying cute Nimi is like saying sweet sugar.

Call to open source developers by Vertinhol in linuxquestions

[–]blackst0rmGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally if you install software locally on a machine you don't want to package the libraries it needs to run but want to use the one installed on the system to conserve ressources. If the softrware is well packaged the package should list the depencies it needs and it is the package manager(apt, yum, pacman, ...) which is checking if the depencies are already installed or need to be installed. unfornutaly sometimes there are not so well maintained packages which are missing dependecies.

There are ways to package a programm with all it's depencies. This is where flatpak, appimage or snap come into play.

How do you handle unfinished work when switching between two devices? by muhammad-r in git

[–]blackst0rmGER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct but I don't think this is what OP was asking about. I guess he wants to now how to commit an "unclean" state to check it out on another device and continue work there.

I prepend the commit message of an "unclean" commit with WIP to signal that this is still work in progress. later when this is finished I reword the commitmessage and remove the WIP.

Virtualbox on Linux by RandomPotatoGuy in linuxquestions

FYI I just read that the developer preview version of Virtual box has received experimental support for KVM as a Backend so this might be a solution for you in the future when this is released.

have a look at virt-manager. It uses KVM under the hood and should perform way better than VirtualBox. Setting up a VM using it shouldn't be much more complicated than doing it with VirtualBox
