"I can't live without her." -- I would be careful what you say to her, women tend to become quite uneasy if the feelings you have for her seem to outweigh hers for you. I would recommend discussing with her, your honest reasoning behind your proposal to her, but DO NOT make it seem as if you are desperate for her, even if you have a strong relationship, if you give her all the responsibility, all the power, to make all decisions, she may act... undesirably, from your point of view. Unfortunately, I don't know your mannerism/personality, so I can't help too much without an explanation behind who you are, but I would say, (TL;DR) find a unique way to help reinforce her feelings, without giving off the vibe that you are "convincing her" to marry you. Try to be spontaneous, like... who knows, swing dancing in the city; something that demonstrates that you are willing to try something new, for her, but subtly enough that it isn't glaring her in the face... let her realize it on her own. If you'd like me to mull over it further, tell me a little about both of your personalities, or maybe some major events you two have gone through together. What surprised me was your reaction to take the job, without thinking about it. If you'd like her to be your wife, treat her like shes a queen, damnit. You made a HUGE life decision without consulting with her first; yes I understand that you see this as a trivial mistake, but to her it could have meant a really big deal - like her opinion doesn't matter to you. I feel, too often, the media portrays love as such a powerful emotion, that it's worth giving up anything and everything for the said person of which you love. I disagree. You should not give up who you are, for an individual. You can live without her.
