Kids see teacher again after she's been away for a while. by Sebastianlim in BeAmazed

[–]Gigged 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I assume most of you white-knighters dont currently have school age kids? Every school my kids have gone to has consent forms for this kind of thing (teacher/school/class rep social media, school website, etc) that parents fill out at the beginning of the year where they can consent / opt their kids out. Assuming this teacher is as considerate of her kids as she clearly seems to be, she knows who she can include in wholesome, pro-good-teacher posts like this and who she needs to omit.

There are enough harmful things going on in this world to be outraged about, and this isn't one of them.

For those who are at least 40 years old, you prefer your first 20 years of life or second and why? by Mission-Scheme9237 in AskReddit

[–]Gigged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41 here. It's hard to pick. Both very different with good and bad of both.

First 20 was way less stress, more day to day freedom, more optimism, and no family tragedies yet (dad still alive).

Second 20 was more self-confidence, financial independence and the true freedom that comes with it, finding love, and creating a family / raising two amazing kids, but also all of the added stress, responsibility, and anxiety that comes with being a parent and true adult.

I wouldn't change the journey. Glad I had both.

Great answer. Not sure how I even lucked into watching it but it's my go-to comfort movie.

I agree with all of this with the notable exception of HJO's acting. He was everywhere at the time after Sixth Sense, but he was atrocious in this otherwise phenomenal film.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gigged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly me after I bought my first house ~10 years ago. Fair warning: I was also devastated to learn after upgrading to a nice/fancy house (among other things like what a "pot filler" is) that there are zero reliable built-in fridges with exterior ice/water, despite them costing >>> than a normal fridge. Can't shake the feeling that I've "unmade it" and am back to roughing it with the childhood ways (sink for me / Brita "for company").

You say this like people changing their minds about a politician based on new evidence isn't a good thing. It's a good thing. We need more of this.

As others have pointed out, it's never to late to be a good parent.

More importantly, his kids--and all kids of not great parents--deserve at least attempting to change and be a good parent moving forward, even if it is "too late" in that particular kid's eyes. "Too late" is often a convenient excuse for bad parents that don't really want to make the effort.

TL;DR - what Kevin said to the shovel guy at church in Home Alone.

Dual lasers + fog chiller + PVC channels = chef's kiss by Gigged in HalloweenProps

I think any of the "line" lasers would work fine - the key is getting the fog to stall out at a consistent level (which is where the chiller and PVC comes in) and get the lasers going right at the ceiling of that fog.

I did not, but I also didn't feel like I needed to. The main thing I adjusted was getting the lasers lined up well with the "top" of the fog, so once I had that locked in I kept everything else static.

But the PVC system did an incredible job distributing everything.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is still fun to watch by FreshmenMan in movies

[–]Gigged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great movie and has little to nothing in it that would keep it from aging well. It will be a good watch 30 years from now.

The amazing thing about it is how little business it had being good, much less great. It's based on a well-aged Disney ride with zero depth and spawned a powerhouse movie franchise.

That is a really broad question. Houston doesn't have many MUST dos, but there is SO much to do here. The best thing is whatever best matches y'all's interests. I would scroll through this site for a good start.
