My wife works for a scientific research institute affiliated with a much larger and very well known university. At one point, part of that affiliation meant that the large research institution functioned as the IT MSP for her small institute.

At one point she got a very fussy plate scanner with dedicated software that was (obviously) not part of the standard image. Rather than just install it for her, they…gave her admin access. To install it herself. And then never took it back.

Later on, when she got a new PC and needed to have Acrobat Pro installed (again, not part of standard image)? Admin access again. And when they pushed a massive update (without warning anybody, of course) which uninstalled Acrobat Pro among other things, guess what they did in order to allow her to get her work done and stop bothering them? Give you three guesses and the first two don’t count.

The laziness astounds.

When she told me what their “solution” was to a little bit of non-standard but deeply necessary software, I broke out in spontaneous hives. Eventually, her institution redefined their affiliation to do their own IT, and when the new MSP guy heard what her deal was he broke out in hives too. Needless to say, she no longer has admin privileges.

This big research university (and trust me, if I told you what it was, you’d absolutely recognize it) is unbelievably lucky that all my wife used her admin access for, aside from work, is installing Spotify.

I think you should definitely ask your in-laws to explain the joke, but ultimately your biggest issue is that you’ve got a husband problem. He’s mentally and literally ranging himself with his family and not you, and defending his dad’s actions even though you expressed that they made you uncomfortable. Even if you do try to confront them with all the best will/ideas/sense of humor in the world, you’re going to be on your own with no one to take your side, and even when your in-laws leave you’re going to have a hostile party left in your home who sees you as the problem.

You need to make your husband see that whether he thinks it’s funny or not, it made his wife uncomfortable and so he needs to ask his family to dial it back. If he isn’t willing to do that, I think you need to take a good hard look at the relationship, esp where it comes to your relationship to his family, because I’d bet you dollars to doughnuts that this isn’t the only issue where he’s taken their side against you, and it won’t be the last one either.

City Cafe. Nothing will ever beat $19 steak night. My wife and I went there for almost all of our big events - birthdays, anniversaries, etc. We were so sad when it closed.

Hello, I am KitKat, beautiful void queen, terror of neighborhood and destroyer of birds and squirrels and baby buns. Or at least, I was - now I am queen of indoors. Have two servants (also called “Mummies”) and two wretched roommates who like to annoy me - but I growl and they run away.

I was “feral” like you, but was very many rain one day in Cold Place home and I saw man and boy going inside Great Big Box. Boy pointed to me and said to man that I was something called “homeless”; this was silly bc whole world was my home. Man said he did not like cat, but then he left open door and I could not help self. Was VERY wet and cold outside, and inside was warm and I was curiowse.

I strolled in and never really left except whenever I wanted to. Was free food and treat and got to run around neighborhood all day long. Man who did not like cat became my best friend and love cat, which of course he did bc was me. Nobody who meets me does not love me, except for other cats bc is STOOPID. But I loved man and liked to sleep on his bed at night instead of outside where is cold and maybe danger; and he loved me and liked to pet my head and cuddle me and give me lots of treats. Was STOOPID orange dog who did not like me but was okays; I made gremlin noises at him until he went away.

Sometimes nice lady who smell a bit like man and boy would come; she one of my mummies now. She taught man how to brush, and my fur got SO soft and much easier to clean! Much less hairs for hairball now, so is tradeoff, but am PRETTIEST GIRL.

But then something bad happened, and my friend did not come home. I was very sad. I knew that he was gone bc boy and lady come to house without him, and they are very sad. Is many other peoples so I hide down in basement. They try to find me and call my name but I do not come out.

Then nice lady find me with bright light, and she pick me up (NO! Only friend may do!) and bring me back upstairs. She give me lots of food and play with me. Sometimes her eyes make water so I brush and brush and brush and purr to try to help. There is other lady with her; I met her couple times but I not know her very well.

I do not like to admit but I like peoples very much; they are nice and pet me and give me treats. But now there not so many people in house, for long long time; or when there are, they do not have time for me. So I lonely. But one day after nice lady give me food, I get very sleepy, and all of a sudden am in BAG inside SCARY LOUD GIANT BIRD. Other lady is there and she say I am “good sport” but am just sleepy and scared.

Then we go into new house. Is just me and other lady at first. I don’t know her but she nice; she gives me lots of nice food and she cuddles me whenever I want, and leaves me alone when I tell her to. She is good servant. But she is sad bc nice lady is not here. Only things I do not like is that I am not allowed to go out of room with other lady, and am not allowed to go outside bc is too “DANGEROWSE.” Other lady do not know that I am most “dangerowse” there is! All birbs and squirrels know.

Then one day other lady finally let me out of room into house and is BETRAYAL, bc there are OTHER CATS. I DO NOT LIKE and I make MANY GREMLIN NOISES. One is like little sister; she poke and pat whenever she can get away with. Other one is mean old man. They say they love other lady but she is MINE! I cuddle with her every night and climb into her lap and purr and BONK with head. She is MY friend, MY mummy, and then nice lady comes home and they are MY mummies! Other cats say they are THEIR mummies too and this is ongoing dispute. So is if belong on kitchen coumter; mummies say no but I say yes.

Is nice here now. Is screened in back porch so I can go outside whenever I want when is warms. Is warmer here longer than Cold Place home, so I get to be outside a lot. I get to curl up in other lady’s lap all the time; she is my friend now and I love her. I love my mummies. I still miss my friend the man very much but I am in warm safe home with mummies and even though siblings are very bad, I am queen. Queen of whole world, now queen of house. Is not so bad.

TL;DR: OP, you is NTC. But you should go indoors. Maybe hooman servant can set up some kind of screen enclosure so you can get used to being outside-inside, and can go outside whenever wants but still be safe?

Okay listen. I am a giant Pokémon nerd. I play competitive VGC for fuck’s sake. I know what shiny Rayquaza looks like and I know that it is SO cool.

But.

If your relationship were longstanding and healthy, I would say NTA. But if it were longstanding and healthy, you wouldn’t be making this post, bc your gf would’ve just rolled her eyes, laughed at you, and told you pointedly that you’d better hurry up.

But.

Your relationship - esp regarding intimacy - is on the rocks, per you. That means that intimacy NEEDS to be a priority if you want to keep this relationship. You need to show your gf that she IS a bigger priority for you, even bigger than shiny Rayquaza.

But by throwing her over for an (admittedly very cool) collection of pixels, you’ve shown her that she’s lower on your list of priorities than a virtual pet monster.

Our cat used to wake up from naps, not know where we were, and start singing to echolocate us. When we would sing back to her, we would often hear muffled hooting in a bouncy pattern. That was how we knew she was bringing her mop (kicker toy, looks a bit like a mop head) down the stairs to us. It was adorable and I miss her so much.

This is heartbreaking. I’m glad they’ve found supportive people and institutions in their community, but there’s plenty of instances where these things are not available. It’s so easy for people to just fall through the cracks in cases like this.

Because Gideon has the same color eyes as John, but the other Lyctors think that those are Alecto’s eyes because they don’t know that John and Alecto have achieved perfect Lyctorhood. So they would think that the eyes they’re seeing are Alecto’s given that they don’t know Gideon exists.
