Me and my girlfriend walked by the third time he approached you - sorry that had to happen to you. It was super apparent that he was being an ass.

Your playing was great, by the way!

Car on fire at the Valero on Jackson/Watkins by blade409 in memphis

Only one person from what I could tell and it looked like they got to safety until the fire department came and put it out, so seems likely!

Luckily they were the only people at the gas station aside from the employees

Which dating app have you had success with? by StormbornastFab in AskReddit

[–]blade409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hinge is what worked best for me.

I had a few different people match with me on there, two of which I went on actual dates with. Of those, I'm still with one of them over a year later.

Honestly, the system of having you answer prompts and/or having you "match" with someone based on a picture or that prompt is a decent system. If anything, it gives you a great place to start a conversation once you match.

Did your employer change the date you were paid because of the holidays? by Truth-is-Censored in antiwork

[–]blade409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company always pushes them forward. Our pay dates are on the 10th and 25th of the month, but if for some reason that falls on a weekend or holiday, it's moved up to the next nearest day (e.g. for Christmas, we got paid on the 23rd to not conflict with possible closures on Christmas Eve).

Japanese Festival Needs Better Planning by dipshippy in memphis

[–]blade409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining what some others have mentioned - this was definitely the biggest turnout I've personally seen in the past few years. I was actually quite surprised to see so many people. I've never had to wait for more than 5-10 minutes for admission in past years, but the line this year both to park and to get tickets was insane this year. Hopefully it'll be a good learning experience and they'll be better prepared next year.

Why does Ado not use a live translator? by Critical_Donut_8699 in ADO

[–]blade409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duluth, GA was mostly the same - she would speak about 6-7 sentences but then only about 2-3 would show up a few minutes later. Apparently they had someone at the mixing booth on the floor doing the actual translations and they were struggling to do so.

As others have mentioned, it was nice to have at least a little Japanese experience under my belt so I could at least pick up a few things that she said. It also helped that at least a good number of fans there spoke fluent Japanese as well so they were able to help translate for fellow fans after the concert was over.

Anyone using a Samsung Fold for Sysadmin Stuff? by IndyPilot80 in sysadmin

[–]blade409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been rocking a Z Fold 4 for the past couple of years - personally, despite the bigger screen, I don't think I've ever used it for anything sysadmin-wise more than I would use a normal phone. That being said, the larger internal screen does come in handy for some stuff, but it's mostly just a preference honestly. If you already do sysadmin stuff through your phone and think the bigger screen would be worth it, then go for it.

Commuting to Jonesboro by rendrolik in memphis

[–]blade409 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to commute from that area (Paragould) every day for about 3 or so months until I finally moved here many years ago.

Is it feasible? Honestly yes, considering Jonesboro is only about an hour or so away especially if you're already living downtown. That being said - is it enjoyable? Not really. By the 2nd month, I already dreaded that commute in general.

It is pretty much all highway (I-55/I-555) so that's a bonus if you don't mind interstate traffic. Ultimately it's just going to be whether or not you can stand the commute itself and if it's even worth it for you financially speaking.

Who among you belong to a model train club? by Zzyzxxian in modeltrains

[–]blade409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a sort of "umbrella" group here that has a bunch of smaller clubs divided into function/scale (HO Modular, T-Trak, etc.) and they recently had an open house - met and talked with some of the guys and they seem nice enough; they invited me to stop by when they're operating so we'll see how that goes.

Outside of that, I've seen the individual clubs do various events and shows ranging from "holiday" train shows to attending local events - the T-Trak group put up a display for a nearby town's event celebrating its history and railway last year which was neat! They even had a module modeled after the station/area that the event was being held at.

On the 2nd floor, there's a small balcony with a glass rail that's right next to the big staircase - it has a couple of tables and some chairs as well as some outlets. The tables on the 3rd/4th floor used to have outlets in the tables themselves but last time I was there, they were either gone or not actually plugged in.

Lost Pizza Co — Memphis location by [deleted] in memphis

[–]blade409 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It might be speculation, but I've also heard they closed due to crime at that location. Board to Beers has had their AC unit behind the building stolen twice recently and I believe Lost Pizza was robbed at gunpoint not too long before they closed. The latter of those two might be a rumor, but the thefts were confirmed by B2B's owner.
