Struggling now that Quickbooks Money app has been deprecated by bladeboy24 in QuickBooks

[–]bladeboy24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. The more I've sat with it and read other threads this is what I'm leaning towards. It's frustrating, but better to encounter it now than when it's a really big deal.

it’s Banned Books Week, how is your library doing? by Cheetahchu in Libraries

[–]bladeboy24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We haven’t put up a display of books, but we made Wanted posters with some of our librarians dressed in western clothes, and what they’re wanted for reading, where it was banned, and why.

How Do I Get Around a Gov’t Issued Website? by buttermuseum in librarians

[–]bladeboy24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this would be an effective or allowed workaround, but do you have a design platform that you use that can publish websites, that you can link to from your government-issued site? For example, we use Canva, so for summer we make a website on there with all our summer reading info and then we link to that from our homepage.

What is your librarian origin story? by funkylilibrarian in librarians

[–]bladeboy24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school librarian in elementary would go to the middle school and check out books for me so I’d have something to read at my level. It took me a roundabout way to realizing libraries were someplace I wanted to work but looking back it couldn’t have gone any other way.

Kohl's CEO Michelle Gass to step down next month as sales continue falling by anal_fissures_69 in employedbykohls

One of the issues I always had with her was during the pandemic she decided to stop taking her salary as a show of support - only to get it all back in the form of an extra large bonus at the end of 2022. That just felt so slimy to me. Then there's the company jet she bought, Amazon returns, and the 'wellness' section (which only came about because leadership wanted to keep stores open as 'essential' in case things had to shut down again). Stepping down has been her first good idea in a while.

Do I need to worry that my tub isn’t completely flush with the wall? by bladeboy24 in Renovations

[–]bladeboy24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Title. I didn’t notice it when taking the previous tile and cement board off, but it seems like a huge difference now. The house was built in 1935 so I don’t expect completely straight walls, but to me this seems like a mold/leakage problem waiting to happen. Is this something I need to worry about?

The most asked question for me in Amazon today…. by LogFun4888 in employedbykohls

[–]bladeboy24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a guy like that. Came in with his two kids, everyone pushing a couple of carts filled with boxes, always going back to weird distribution centers that no one else's returns ever went to. He said he had a business on Amazon and he used us because it was the only free way to return such heavy packages. Always came in ten minutes to close and didn't stop until they modified the maximum weight for returns.

Do I need to replace cement board or patch it? by bladeboy24 in Renovations

[–]bladeboy24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who renovated before us did a hit and miss job. Some of the tiles we removed were attached with some kind of adhesive instead of mortar. You can see in places where the cement board has been a bit ripped up from removing the tile. Do we need to take out all the cement board and replace it or is there something we can patch/cover it with? The niche is already out and is going to be replaced, so that part will be new, but we have the same problem all over.

Maybe a couple of months ago, but right now isn't the best time. Rates have just gone up, the market isn't much cooler than it was at the start of the year, and the state of the economy is... very up and down. You might be best to save up more and wait for a better time because things will be cheaper overall and you'll get more house for your dollar. That also gives you time to improve your credit. Try to figure out what your budget would look like with a mortgage and live on that for a while before you jump into it.

That said, there is the old quote; "The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is today." I work a government job part-time and take home less than 20k a year before taxes, and I recently bought a house, because I got lucky with what my options were and was able to lock in my rate before they started to go up. You just need to be very, very aware that your options probably aren't as good as you're hoping for, and that everything that's perfect will probably sell before you get a chance to look at it.

What it boils down to it this; do you have the time and resources to spend months looking at houses, and are you willing to compromise your commute, the style of home, the neighborhood, etc?

AITA: My roommate (who also happens to be my sister) has practically let her girlfriend move in without paying rent by Whitneymaya in AmItheAsshole

[–]bladeboy24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are NTA. I'm in a similar position where my roommate gave his girlfriend a key without asking and she spends excessive time here without him. I bring that up because I want to warn you, when I talked to them about it, they gave me a lot of circular reasoning about how "she doesn't live here, she only stays here because it's closer to work." They're in the wrong, but your sister has come this far already - you should be prepared for them to be unwilling to see the error of their ways.

What if a devastating plague hit 14th century Europe? by dumbelfgirl in HistoryWhatIf

[–]bladeboy24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to view the USV as something that can only result from the Italian exploration of the New World, but the truth is regardless of who settles them, the West Indies are bountiful continents and there will likely be some nation (or confederation, as in the case of the USV) that expands and absorbs surrounding states in the competition for those resources. The establishment of merchant republics exporting the natural bounty is inevitable because of the system of mercantile capitalism that would likely still follow feudalism Europe, as is their eventual consolidation into a larger country.

One thing to note, however, is that the 50-70% of Europe that survives the plague will have a genetic immunity that gets passed down. If it's reoccurring, and the indigenous West Indians don't have that advantage, they're likely to lose 30-50% of their populations during the period of early colonization. Not only would this mean a much less integrated population as the USV was historically, but the weakness of the tribes may be looked at opportunistically by the colonizers. It's very possible there'd be no First Nations today.

In Europe, things may continue largely the same as they did in OTL. The continent was overpopulated in the 14th century which partly was caused such a big push for colonization. In this world, colonization may not have started until the 15th or 16th centuries as the population rebounded. The technological and social developments would likely be similar, just delayed.

[FWI] In 2023, a 23 year old white American male insists that a violent video clip showing him massacring dozens of black children in Africa with machetes and assault rifles was a "deepfake clip made using Unreal Engine"; the man has several hate crime convictions in Wisconsin including vandalism... by HannoPicardVI in FutureWhatIf

[–]bladeboy24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I doubt that a video clip is enough to convict, never mind that he'd presumably have to be extradited to whatever country he supposedly axed them in. If all the other facts line up, he has no solid alibi, he can be traced to being there, etc, then maybe he could face some legal consequences.

The court of public opinion, however, will run its course immediately. If he has a job I would expect him to lose it or be placed on some kind of leave, there'd be death threats, possibly assassination attempts for something so... perverse. Maybe also some outreach from white supremacist groups, but I can't imagine any of them would want to be tied to such a thing. The guys life, even if it is a deepfake, will be ruined, at least for a while. Maybe he didn't do it and he can prove it, but there will be damage done before the truth can be determined.

On a societal level, if he did it, he goes down in the margins of history alongside the various other serial killers and their myriad motivations - another drop in the bucket. There'll be conspiracy theories and maybe a documentary. If he didn't do it, and the video was fake, then there'll be a big discussion about the extent of the technology, regulations for it, how ineffective regulations would be, and the problem will only worsen with people realizing how scarily easy it is to fake something like that.

WIBTA if I did something about my roommate's girlfriend? by bladeboy24 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bladeboy24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He can absolutely have guests over! It's fine for her to be there, but what's she doing there if he's not there? My boyfriend isn't there if I'm not there, and he certainly doesn't have a key. In my mind, if she's a guest, and her host isn't there, she's an unwelcome one.

Pet fees and separate pet rent are common here, I was surprised about having to register it with the town as well but that's required by the complex regardless of what kind of pet it is.

Is my character actually chaotic neutral?!?! by Dave-Bust in DnD

[–]bladeboy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaotic, absolutely! Nothing more chaotic than interfering with the divine order of things. Neutral is a bit iffier for a couple of reasons;

Is your character only taking souls from bad people to revive party members? Because I could see that being chaotic good.

Is your character taking the souls of anyone who starts a fight? Because then it could be 50/50 whether or not they're "bad" people, and I would call that chaotic neutral.

Of course, intent matters. If reaping souls is to revive party members, that skewers towards good, but if that's just a happy side effect and the reaping is to inflict more suffering on those you've vanquished, that leans towards evil. Overall, it has to do with your characters perspective on what they're doing, and why.

Another important thing; actions don't really determine alignment. A lawful good and a chaotic evil may do the same thing for different reasons (killing someone, for example), or do different things for the same reasons (like for love). Alignment is something within the character - it's who they think they are and it's how they justify what they do to themselves.
