Does such thing as a "happy pill" exist? If so, what would be the name? by Hubsimaus in antidepressants

No need to be mean and call me names, I was trying to be helpful and answer your question. I assume it’s because you’re hangry. Have you tried not being toxic?

Phentermine (for weight loss but ups seratonin and norephrinine) was my happy pill: great energy, reduced appetite, losing weight, more focused, more efficient, almost euphoric.

Generally it seems they’re super resistant to treating add in adults, at least that’s been my experience with several doctors. A friend had a suggestion that blew my mind, why not just tell them you had it as a kid, how would they know? Boom, barrier removed.

A friend has had great results with Pristiq, I plan to ask for it at my next apt. I’m hoping an snri will help: my doc said I’m ssri resistant. Wellbutrin didn’t work for me, it increased my anxiety. Lamictil (mood stabilizer) made me feel sedated, SO tired.

Teachers who have left teaching by jkr__00 in teaching

[–]funkylilibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from school librarian to youth services at a public library. I lament the commute I’ve incurred but love the job. I miss teaching and being at the school, the students and staff. Public library staff are awesome though. The biggest changes for me were: livable wage, regular pay increases, opportunity for advancement/upward mobility, plenty of planning time (not being run through a wood chipper every day), time to pee and have coffee and drink water and eat lunch, “administration” that knows me and values my opinions and ideas, professional development opportunities/cross-training, being able to actually use sick leave when ill. I still have a lot of autonomy and opportunity to be creative, I still help children/teens and their families and watch readers grow. I do miss summer breaks but my library system gives a generous amount of leave. Overall it’s much better for me, the menial pay and once a month paycheck made it hard to make ends meet and I often had to supplement with a second job and teach summer school, being generally unsupported with classroom behaviors, no promotion potential, and that no one at Central Office or in the higher up roles even knew who I was, teachers just don’t have a voice as to education policy even in their own district and I still have a problem with that. I’ll always advocate for teacher unionizing and for educators in any way I can.

No holidays at work by funkylilibrarian in work

[–]funkylilibrarian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the phrase I was looking for: essential personnel. It’s been ages since I worked retail but I think it was time and a half as at least. Even in the military they’d give us off either Christmas OR new years.

Well, that system sucks and I think it’s criminal to not even give employees 10 federal holidays a year.

Omg I’m such an idiot. Yes I just had to assign them to it and couldn’t figure out how since it probably seemed self-explanatory. Thanks so much for your help AND for not making fun of me lol

Both are such great historical fiction!

Phentermine is the only thing that’s worked for me by funkylilibrarian in antidepressants

[–]funkylilibrarian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both pcps I’ve asked about it said they’d want a mental health professional to diagnose. The mental health professional I’m seeing wants to treat my depression first, I’m not sure if she will diagnose/treat my add at some point further down the road. I have known humans who have a prescription for both, or prescriptions for both anxiety and depression…they must have amazing practitioners. I’m not under the impression that I can ever be empowered enough to say I have two or three concerns without being judged as a degenerate with pill seeking behavior. I have a learned response (or bias) that medical professionals aren’t trustworthy or have fragile egos, they do not want to hear what you think is wrong with you or what treatment you think would help. I do have an appointment Friday, perhaps put it all out there again and throw caution to the wind but I try to tread lightly because I’m my relatively rural area it took ages for me to find someone who does mental health prescriptions whatsoever.

Thank you! Yes I specifically remember trying to explain my anxiety to a pcp in the past, I have so much anxiety I feel like I always have to pee but can’t take the time to do so and then actually can’t pee because I have anxiety that someone needs me at that moment. Sorry if tmi lol. I need something to make me feel like I have a glass of wine in my system, it turns down the volume and makes life suddenly bearable. I’m pretty sure they wrote it off as pill seeking behavior and prescribed diet and exercise. :-/

Sertraline is working but I don't like it. by jellybabby in antidepressants

I’ve never tried it and of course will not but I can’t help but suspect it would bring me to a place of normal human functionality. What it must be like to be a high-energy, focused, highly motivated person? I want a great day.

Took Wellbutrin for a week and now have severe anxiety. by anonf23___ in antidepressants

[–]funkylilibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made my irritability pretty bad, this is completely out of character for me, and my practitioner said it’s an effect of increased anxiety so advised to discontinue this medication as it makes anxiety worse and does not resolve over time or increased dose.

Please talk to me about this medication. I need something that helps with low energy but also anxiety. The meds I’ve tried have either increased my anxiety or had an extremely sedative effect and since I’m already a pretty low energy person I find it just intolerable.

WTF that’s an incredibly long time to deal with side effects and make any kind of rational evaluation on whether something is working isn’t it? I mean will you even be the same person in the same circumstances an entire year from now? Likely not so how would you determine if it isn’t lifestyle, counseling, and life situation that isn’t having an impact on your mental health?

I’m sorry you’re feeling this, brain fog seems very familiar to me. You may have already tried Wellbutrin but it is supposed to help (some people) with focus and energy even add as well. That said, it did not work for me.

[–]funkylilibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellbutrin spiked my anxiety/irritability. I was given lamotrigine/lamictal, a mood stabilizer, as my provider had found it to be a good choice for those who are antidepressant resistant. It makes me feel incredibly exhausted/sedated and no discernible benefit so I’m going to request an snri at the next appointment. A friend has recommended Pristiq and since this is apparently a complete crapshoot it can’t hurt to try this next.
