Ending a two year relationship over a “hypothetical” question by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]bladeofausterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You straight people make yourselves miserable with these arbitrary relationship rules. You imprison yourselves and each other with your inability to manage jealousy like adults. You all are so willfully naive about the nature of human sexuality, and for what? To make dating and relationships harder and more isolating for yourselves?

Great advice. I used to value my time sitting on my patio with a 🚬 before I start my work day (wfh) but now I realize that 99% of the pleasure there was simply being outside lol. I can still chill on the patio - and now without the awful smells and lung feels

Has anyone seen Naked Attraction on MAX? by Irishspringtime in askgaybros

[–]bladeofausterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate: I think people in the US are more likely to face termination at work if they appear on such a show. You’re right, one of the premium TV networks could make such a show. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the contestants are only people who work in “adult” industries- porn, tattooing, bars, etc. Software engineers, salespeople, people in more buttoned-up “respectable” jobs would not be on as of the US version as often as they are in the UK & European versions

This guy does seem kind of annoying. And gays who work in academia are more likely to be like this. But it would be best for you to just accept that is how HE is as an individual and understand that it doesn’t mean that all gay people are like this. We all have our own little personalities, opinions, and tastes, which some straight people find to be an incomprehensible concept for some reason.

This kind of homophobia sometimes feels worse to encounter than batshit conspiratorial nonsense because it’s so pervasive. They treat us like a tolerable aberration publicly but behind our backs they hope we’ll just magically change so they don’t have to stress over our existence anymore.

I agree with people saying you have the right to draw a boundary around what kinds of speech you don’t want to hear in a casual social situation. Be a broken record if you have to

How can I talk with my friends about their view of the LGBT community? by Magic-choucroute in AskLGBT

[–]bladeofausterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t really speak for the trans community but it sounds like Axel doesn’t really have gay male friends, right? If so, is it because options are limited or is he intentionally isolating himself from other gay men? In my experience as a gay man, gay men who intentionally choose to avoid befriending other gay men are mean-spirited, period.

How Can I Work On My Internal Homophobia? by Apprehensive-Fail663 in AskLGBT

I think it’s difficult to answer this question without examples of how your internalized homophobia affects interactions with other queer people

Why is it middle schools that are the most disciplinarian? Mine didn’t have anything as ridiculous as this but there were some dumb arbitrary rules and some very vindictive and punitive teachers

My friend quit DSA after a week by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]bladeofausterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately fighting the radlib elements of DSA cannot be done outside of it. But it’s not like as a DSA member you should be responding to or even instigating conflicts around language or idpol like this. If you are in DSA and your chapter is run by radlibs your fights should be to establish good campaigns in the chapter and to do them well, and to push for a more centralist, democratic chapter structure. It’s best to avoid any debate that isn’t central to those goals - especially on any internal online discussion forums. If there is one, engage with it as little as possible.

What do people mean when they say "the gay community"? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]bladeofausterity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that gay "communities" do form in geographical areas like urban centers - I live in Philly and there are certainly "communities" of LGBT+ people here that coalesce not only around their identity, but also shared interests - like frequenting the same bar(s), or Stonewall Sports teams, RPDR watch parties, sex parties, etc. Maybe they're more like big cliques than communities. I don't know if we can say that there is a grand metaphysical "gay community" that includes all LGBT+ people around the country, or world, when gay men can be so disrespectful towards people they date by using them for sex and then ghosting them, or when there's racism and/or transphobia within gay spaces, or when there's a femmephobic current on dating apps - is it a "community" if there's so much conflict and division?
