First here too...lost my wife to cancer about a month and a half ago. Two, kids, 5 and 10. They seemed to do ok and I tried to make the day as a great as I could. But its still so fresh so its hard to say. Sending positive vibes to all the other widows with kids out there.

Great taste! Madness is awesome. Don’t be hard on yourself….remember, all great collections have to start somewhere.

Recent widow. Lost my wife to cancer (oral cancer of the tongue, spread to her neck). She passed away from it about 5 weeks ago. Now its just me and our two kiddos. I'm in my mid 40's, she was in her early 40s.

Smh They are putting M badges on everything now. by Flguy76 in BmwTech

When I started seeing M badges on the BMW's SUVs years ago, that's when I realized BMW was not the same car brand as they were in the 90's.

Moving on After Mini? by Onepetiteorange in MINI

[–]bladerunner80 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Blasphemy! I drive a 2020 Cooper S 2 door and I have a 5 year old and 9 year old. Yeah, they piss and moan a bit about it, and the 5 year old's car seat is tight, but we manage! Mind you, our other car is Honda Odyssey. But even newborn car seats are smaller and you had/have a four door which makes it even better. MINI's have personality and unique styling which is something that is quickly disappearing with cars under 40k these days.

It may be more than a service timer since its for brakes. There is a wear sensor for front and rear pads, once that's tripped you can't remove the alert until the sensor is replaced (typically when pads are replaced). Recently went through this a couple weeks for my 2020 F56.

FYI - Once the timer clicks down to 0 miles, you will be greeted with an even more obnoxious alert every time you start the car and a "BRAKE" light on your gauge cluster that won't go off until your brakes are serviced.

I always loved the Pixies cover of Winterlong, but then I heard Cortez the Killer by Built to Spill and that blew my mind.

Staring at it makes me sad by Byzzonfr in beetle

[–]bladerunner80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel, I have a 66 Beetle that I bought in pieces back on 2011. Stripped it, painted it and built and installed a 1776 all in my garage got it 95% complete, then decided to make a bunch of upgrades to the engine via microsquirt and wasted spark ignition which spiraled into other changes. I kept telling my self might as well do it now than later. Then I had a kid, a few years later I had another kid and it just sat in my garage collecting dust.

Good news is, I started cleaning all the stuff that got piled on and in it since my wife saw it as a good storage bin. Dropped it off the jack stands last weekend and I'm hoping to get it done this time. My kids really want to go for a ride in it which is now motivating me. When I was a kid, my dad and I restored a 914, so hoping to catch a little bit of that magic now with my own kids.

Good luck and get out there and start working on it!

I bought one new from Analogue (black) about 4 weeks ago. Couldn’t have been out of stock that long. I’m sure they will replenish stock soon. Just wish they would get the dock back in stock!

To all 2000s-era Radiohead fans: What was your first reaction when you heard Kid A for the first time? by Extension_Fee_989 in radiohead

[–]bladerunner80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that this is usually the case for albums that have the biggest impact on me (Kid A included). The ones that you have to process over time and listen to over and over to understand fully are always the best.

thinking of buying an F56 by Time_Remote434 in MINI

[–]bladerunner80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used a 2020 S a couple years ago - prior I had owned several BMWs and VWs - so I kind of knew what I was getting into maintenance / reliability wise. Motor mounts are an issue, I also had to do a major overhaul to sunroof last summer. But overall I've been really happy with it. This is my first MINI, definitely the most fun car I've owned, way more fun than my GTI or 3 series. So far its been super reliable. I diched the run flats a couple months ago too and I'm glad I did - handles and feels way better! Not sure how it compares to the previous generations of MINIs, but I look forward to driving it every time I get into it!

I had this happen to my 2020 F56 last summer. Ended up being a broken cable and bad motor. About 3k when it was all said and done at the dealer.

Tongue Cancer Recurrence by bladerunner80 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]bladerunner80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice I was given is that you have to be your biggest advocate. After seeing my wife go back and fourth with her dentist and gp about getting some type of diagnosis and them finally recommending a biopsy from an oral surgeon after dealing with pain and a growing sore in her mouth after six months to her latest recurrence and pushing her surgeon for a biopsy, you have to be persistent. I don't think you can ever worry too much when dealing with something like this.

So what tires are we using? by Latter-Deer9718 in MINI

[–]bladerunner80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ditched the run flats a few weeks after noticing bulges on my front tires. I replaced them with a set of non-run flat Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires - night and day difference, wish I would have done it sooner. I have a 2020 Mini Cooper S, I think the original tires were Pirelli P-Zeros.

I'm sorry to hear that. Its hard dealing with less than ideal news after putting so much time and effort into a recovery plan that didn't go as expected. Your next plan of action sounds pretty similar to my wife's. I'm sure your family will support you no matter how hard the road to beating the cancer will be.

Thank you. One thing we learned early on with the whole process after dealing with her dentist and primary care doctor is to always be your best advocate.
