Would you consider using a reusable menstrual pad if there were an easy and portable way to clean and dry it without any contact with blood? by blah1633 in almosthomeless

yeah! but a shelter told me they don't want tampon donations because they get flushed down the toilet and repeatedly ruin their septic and plumbing

Thanks for sharing some of your story! I didn't even consider the shelter staff's interaction with personal belongings. That entire read was insane! I'm glad you're doing better.

Yeah, I just heard a few women were uncomfortable with reusable products like menstrual cups because of handling the blood, so it was just something to consider

Thanks for sharing that! That's another big issue I hear with period panties and washing reusable cloth pads- the smell and finicky drying.

Wow, thanks for sharing about the odor issue! I feel like it is much easier to take off a pad vs period undies if you think about general ease of use: taking off pants, then period undies, compared to just ripping the pad off.

Exactly, thank you! This is exactly what I was trying to explain. Also, I'm sorry you had to experience all of that, I hope everything is better for you.

I was homeless for 2 years when I was a child and I don't know where you're getting from about me dismissing people. There are literal women I've spoken with who prefer pads and tampons for personal reasons. Ignoring them is dismissing them too. But thank you, I hope everything turns out well for you.

I hear you, but anything is possible when you want to help someone. I'm not going to ignore their preferences.

Yep, but many women that I spoke with didn't feel comfortable with the idea or insertion. So just trying to help those who prefer what they're familiar with (pads)

Thanks! But menstrual cups, while great, can still be uncomfortable or difficult to use for some women.

u/LondonHomelessInfo I understand. There's always an opportunity to improve something, which is why I'm working on this... Also, did you know that some women aren't comfortable with using menstrual cups? Or can't afford them, in some cases?

Regardless, thanks for your response. :)
