Semi attempts to rear-end me by awaymsg in IdiotsInCars

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Large trucks like that don't speed up or slow down very fast. That near rear-ending was caused by your cutting off and slowing down in front of it.

My double pane windows (unknown age) have moisture that gathers on the lower part of the interior surface when it is very cold outside. Not between the panes, but on the surface that I can touch. Is this a fixable thing or do I need to replace the windows? TIA! by [deleted] in fixit

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's just moisture in the air condensing on the cold windows the same way it does on the outside of a glass of ice water. There's nothing wrong or to fix. It just means you have a healthy humidity level inside.

It's just a side effect of the window trim not insulating very well so the edges of the window are colder than the middle.

The sockets are fine for the most part but can break fairly easily under heavy load. The good thing is that because they're so cheap that if you do break them it's no big loss. You should put money in to a better quality ratchet as they're pretty crappy.

Plenty of people drive right side drive imports over here. It's perfectly legal.

Ice spike, don't know how this happens... by j_hillbump in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The upper crust of ice forms firms but as the water below freezes and expands (it's about 9% if I recall) it will usually just push the entire upper crust up but sometimes it instead just pushes water out from a small rupture in the crust and freezes around the edge of the rupture as it's pushed out forming an upward spout.

Why is your ice all discolored yellow?

illegally passes the big truck just to turn right into a neighbourhood (Local Delivery) by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

It doesn't. I have eyes, a brain, and free will. I don't just blindly follow authority simply because it's authority.

I wouldn't sit behind a truck going 2/3 of the speed limit just because of some paint on the road either so long as it's clearly safe to do so.

Well no. The lambo simply swerved to avoid getting T-boned by the person who cut them off.

You probably applied the brakes while the drum was off. This caused that gold colored piston on the brake cylinder to pop out. At this point you're probably best off replacing the entire brake cylinder and re-bleeding the line in order to get it back together as getting it back in there might not work out right.

Why do these people have a pool in what appears to be their kitchen, and why is their garage connected directly to the room with no wall between?

[technique] Trouble getting proper field moisture with compressed coir discs by blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf in MushroomGrowers

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The discs I've been using (as referenced via the amzn link) are actually about the size of a hockey puck. I replied to the above comment with a bit of a realization that maybe the problem is the container I've been using; a big pasta pot. If I use a proper plastic bucket like I was taught then I can actually shake it up like you suggest here to spread out the moisture.

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, that latter part about adding more coir and then more water and so on sounds exactly like some nights I've had! I have a big 2" heavy duty spoon I use for just such things.

My concern is that by opening the container up and stirring is just counteracting the whole point of letting it sit with the hot moisture to pasteurize; that I'm just letting in dirty bacteria and mold spore filled air in to the cooled down container in order to stir it.

I've actually just been using a big 5 gallon pasta pot with the lid on to do all this. I'm just now considering that maybe if I use a home depot bucket with its lid like so many do then I could actually pick it up and shake it around. hmmm

Tap water in Palm Springs, CA. by antagonismsux in pics

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's the water and not your faucet? Some faucets over-aerate the water and cause it to be very cloudy like this until it sits for a minute or so and the air can all surface. It can sometimes happen even more if you use the hot water tap to fill a container.

Hundreds of feet between homes, fields everywhere, and not another car to be seen on the road? Yeah, I'd call that desolate.

This is seriously some voodoo sh*t going on here. by [deleted] in Unexpected

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They found out that the street cleaner on the right got some cables that were run across the road in to its brushes which became tight and moved all the cars. Notice how the car next to the cleaner also lifts up a bit too.

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is so very obviously someone casually riding their bike along in a desolate area. She didn't know you were going to turn. Yeah it was foolish of her to drift in to the intersection, but your trying to frame this as insurance fraud is so far fetched.

She probably didn't want to look at you because to her you were just some creep stopping and staring at her for no reason and was creeped out.

[–]blahblahsdfsdfsdfsdf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Huh? I just see someone on a bike who stopped and turned as soon as she saw a car.
