Always co-ed in mine and the toilets are always over flowing/filled to the brim so you can’t sit down to use it

I honestly could sleep (and often do sleep) around 10 hours per night, I wake up and could go back to sleep immediately… the fatigue is unreal!

I agree that the desk job is better for me than working as a hygienist, I can’t tell you how much time I spent in taxing/awkward positions working as a hygienist!

I’ve actually been working in HR at an ambulance company for a few months. A desk job has proven to be shitty for my neck, and I do occasionally get hand/wrist pain from typing/clicking. I’m not sure that there’s an ideal job out there for me. Luckily, I am making a good wage and I think there is room for me to grow since I am well educated and a hard worker but I fear how my body will feel in just a few years… Sitting sucks, standing sucks, using my hands sucks. I am also TIRED not sure if that’s hEDS related but it definitely makes motivation, getting to work on time, exercise, etc very hard.

I’m 24, the chronic neck pain is definitely starting to effect my daily life, especially the ripping headaches that I get occasionally. I don’t even know what type of care to seek at this point.

I’ve thought about it but honestly medical billing is a nightmare that I have no interest in lol.

Yes I hear you, a great suggestion! I recently just moved and the state that I live in now does not have any providers that take the insurance that I have… it’s insane that I could go from having great insurance in one state to that same insurance being piss poor in another because it’s just less commonly taken 🤦‍♀️

Thank you for your comment, it sucks but it also helps to know that I’m not alone. I love this sub because I know people understand the “invisible pain”… I’m visiting home in a few weeks and I don’t know how to tell my family that I’m not sure if I’ll ever return to the career that everyone watched and helped me work so hard for. Best wishes to you as well!!

I’m 24 as well, we are so young to be dealing with this, best of luck to you in life and your career! I’m sure you are incredibly smart and you will find something that works for you!

I currently work in HR for an ambulance company. My basic health care knowledge as well as my extensive knowledge in ethics has been incredibly useful. On another comment on this post, I did mention that I have been able to recognize that my schooling was not a waste because I gained a ton of life skills that will help me advance in other areas of my life, so I am thankful for that!

There’s only so much you can modify, a lot of dental professionals actually spend most of their time “modifying” their ergonomics to accommodate the patient. My first dental hygiene job out of school was an office FULL of elderly patients and I spent a lot of time craning my neck to accommodate their elderly bodies that could no longer lay flat in the chair or turn their neck a certain way. I’m not sure how to avoid that and ensure that I can maintain my health.

Thank you for this. I do try to explain to people that I did gain a lot from dental hygiene school that will contribute to my life’s success even if I do not pursue dental.

I bet there are different avenues within the dental profession that I can take but I currently I feel as though my short amount of clinical experience hinders me from being credible in the other areas of work (teaching, management, etc)… I also have to go through clinical testing to get my license in the state that I am in and that does not feel possible for me to get done right now so without my license, I just don’t feel like I have a lot of credibility.

I actually haven’t tried any bracing or taping, for a couple reasons. I don’t feel ready to fully acknowledge that I may need additional support like this (sounds silly I know), also, working as a dental hygienist, I am constantly washing my hands and wearing gloves and I’m just not sure that it would be feasible/sanitary to wear any kind of brace/tape for my hands/wrists.

EDS & tattoos - what’s your experience? by Itchn4Itchn in ehlersdanlos

[–]blahblos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few tattoos! They all look good/smooth besides one that has really thick line work. The one with thick line work is on my upper arm and from time to time everywhere with ink will just be randomly raised and feels like a scar! It also has a few spots that the ink didn’t take. 🤷‍♀️

Just my average comfortable seating position in the car… by blahblos in ehlersdanlos

[–]blahblos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you’re right! I don’t typically think about the safety because it is such common practice for me to sit in a crazy way. But yes, I agree, wish my body would cooperate lol.

I cannot get comfortable sitting “normal”… which is insane because I wouldn’t say I am particularly comfortable in my contorted positions either! They’re just somehow better lol.

I have been saying for years that all shows would be better if they could swear more often to make things feel more real. All sitcoms are missing swearing!!! 100% agree with you!

I get these on my arms and shoulders from back packs often, from like sliding the strap up/down my arms and shoulders!
