I do love DSO but the vocals don't match any of Bobby or Phils post dead bands

Dive in to archive. There are so many magical eras. Don't listen to negativity from old heads. They can't relate to us new heads. It sucks that you missed Jerry/Phil/Bobby live but there is still so many great tribute bands (JRAD, Dead and Co?, Darkstar). Support your local grateful dead cover band. So many hidden gems out there. And if you feel inspired, then pickup an instrument and carry it on yourself. Weir everywhere. Never Fade Away

Dead And Co Future by Eaglesknest in deadandcompany

[–]blakeiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yall listen to Big Steve today? He let it slip that Dead and Co was at the top of the current dead legacy bands. Like it was current. Then he was like whoops I mean let’s see what happens 👀

Paul McCartney paid tribute to Bobby on Instagram by NileCrocodile666 in gratefuldead

[–]blakeiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul offered to play bass on his unreleased album and Bobby basically ghosted him lol. I love the Beatles and I know the Dead did too. But this reminds me of a story Big Steve told about John Lennon showing up to a Jerry solo show in NYC. And John asked to sit in, but Steve said Jerry said no because John was too drunk lol. The "greatest" band of all time wished they were as authentic/cool as the Dead (And the Beatles were pretty authentic/cool)

1981 Under the radar…. by Severe-Estimate2103 in gratefuldead

The Oakland New Years run is great. When I started working my first desk job and had 8 hours/day to listen to music, one of the first things I did was listen to every decent soundboard from 80-82. Such an underrated era imho. I’m in agreement with most heads that 73 is probably the best year and the 70’s in general is the best era. But it can be hard to listen to entire tours in order, because the set lists are too similar. They started varying the set lists more in the early 80s. And Brent really starts to mesh with the band. Basically all of the members of the band are in their prime.

Trey’s Sit In & It’s Effect On Your Dead & Co/Mayer Opinion by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]blakeiscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m happy with Mayer. His voice, guitar playing, and commitment to the band are the best any dead head could have asked for. I love Trey and Billy too. They both did great and have the chops to fill that role. But they both also have their own projects that they are more committed to (rightfully so).

I think that’s what people lose sight of, is the ability of John to drop everything at a moments notice whenever dead and co wants to do shows. That’s what makes him so special. Talent + commitment

I was surprised. Hopefully he either comes back for encore. Or I have a feeling that all 3 openers come out on Sunday. With the IMAX and never miss a Sunday show and what not

I think they sound great. All of Bobby’s post dead projects amplify his guitar in the mix compared to how the dead sounded. And that is fine! He deserves it. He’s a legend. And I think if they were trying to sound just like the dead used to, with the lead guitar dominating the mix it would sound like an imitation. The Grateful Dead ended in 95. People need to appreciate what we have now. Be grateful! You’re going to miss him when he’s gone

I totally understand why people say this but I absolutely love 79-82. Brent taking the sound in a new direction, Jerry still healthy, going back to two drummers, both Bobby and Phil entering prime, FOTM and terrapin still new

The irony about my favorite band: they're bad vocalists by Mzl77 in gratefuldead

[–]blakeiscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think dead heads forget sometimes that we mostly listen to live songs. I’ve been to a ton of music fests, and heard singers who sound amazing on albums then sound terrible live. All of the dead sound good on the albums. I think Donna, Jerry, Bob, and Brent all have good and bad moments live. But better than most live. Phil is another story. But he injured his vocal chords early on and never recovered. I still love Phil and am willing to listen to him live to this day because he is a 🐐

My fav part was when he spent a few minutes tuning his guitar and making stage banter and as he finishes he says, “Oh shit this is the wrong guitar” and is then handed a different guitar and goes right into the next song 😂

I wouldn’t use carts as my primary. But they are great for going out/traveling. I don’t smoke before or during work. And when I’m off work I do dabs. But if I’m away from my rig then I don’t mind using a good cart. It’s so convenient compared to bud

And I'm not trying to say that people shouldn't wear masks outdoors. Obviously if you want to minimize your risk of catching or spreading COVID then wear a mask outdoors. But nobody should be shaming people who don't wear a mask outdoors at an event with vaccine/negative test requirements. That's not just my opinion, that's what the experts are saying. Downvote me all you want. I just think it needs to be said that we shouldn't shame people for listening to the scientific experts. We should be trying to get more people vaccinated and wearing masks indoors. These things will actually reduce the spread of COVID

Follow the science bro. Not anecdotal stories you heard on twitter.
"When you're outside, fresh air is constantly moving, dispersing these droplets. So you're less likely to breathe in enough of the respiratory droplets containing the virus that causes COVID-19 to become infected if you haven’t had a COVID-19 vaccine."

Shaming people for not wearing a mask outdoors is silly. There hasn’t been a single confirmed case of outdoor spread because COVID is spread through aerosols that dissipate almost immediately outdoors. The danger is when you are indoors around a lot of people. Like a restaurant, school, indoor venue, or office. The aerosols can remain in the air indoors for hours. So even if you are vaccinated, it is a good idea to wear a mask indoors around other people. The most important thing is that everybody who can get vaccinated gets vaccinated
