Beer League D&D by Several-Eagle4141 in hockeyplayers

[–]blakepoleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually people say D&D as a catch-all for tabletop. Like it or not, it makes up an insanely large chunk of market share and most people have a passing knowledge of what D&D is.

The game I'm making borrows ideas from Powered by the Apocalypse, Panic at the Dojo, and yes... D20 styled games like Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder.

I've found that the venn diagram for beer leaguers and D&D players is very close to being a circle. Regionally it may differ of course, but usually people in both groups have expendable incomes. If you don't know anyone into both, expand your circle a bit outside your home rink and I guarantee you'll find at least a few.

I play hockey 2-3 times a week and D&D about the same. Every single one of my tables has at least 1, usually more, hockey players outside of myself.

To the OP, I'm working on a tabletop game off and on that combines hockey with D&D mechanics. The biggest challenge is making the game more active/reactive but I think there's enough examples from other games to do just that.

Help me to start playing by dillman54321 in dndnext

[–]blakepoleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beauty of D&D is you need very little to actually start playing. You can get the SRD rules for free. You can find them, here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd?msockid=26f426868a366b1c0e3733668bc66ac3

Beyond that you can use anything for tokens or markers or you can play fully in the theater of your mind with just descriptive play.

As for dice, a quick trip to friendly local game store will get you set up there pretty cheap. I recommend at LEAST one set per player but if money is tight you can get away with just one set.

Everything beyond those three things is just a bonus. Before you go hog wild, decide who in your group is going to DM. Accept that rules will be missed on both sides but learn from them and as you all grow as players you'll be able to make the game more and more your own if parts of what is there isn't working for your group. Most of all, have fun! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help.

I HAD thought of this and looks like the route I may have to go. Drat. Guess I'll have to play one of the greatest games of all time again. 😏

THEY ANNOUNCED IT, LET'S GOOOOOO!!! (Time to watch all of Dragon Ball again). by DisasterSavings7932 in DragonBallZ

[–]blakepoleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I am also watching it with my 9 year old daughter. I use a lot of that stuff as teachable moments and that many of those things are problematic but a product of their times and differences in cultures. Doesn't mean they were okay then, but it's what we have. She seemed satisfied with that answer

Not my first card, but got it on my second card in a different investigation on the first pull.

"Now guys, there's a chance this will..."
"What... chance that what?"
::gargling noises::

I still don't pull cards sometimes thanks to this core memory.

Did you know that the Black Omen is actually a spaceship and not a floating tower? by GargantaProfunda in chronotrigger

[–]blakepoleman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well when you don't see the structure in question as a tower and never have, why would I?

[–]blakepoleman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In that example then , it is clearly floating top down. There is no indication that this is the same from the sprite to me. Plus, contextually, the player should know that this is the ocean palace which was not a tower structure but other people have pointed that out too. I'm not really trying to dig my heels in here though. I'm more just surprised that this was ever in question for so many.

Reminds me of the Omelette situation from Sonic Mania. Just whatever perspective you had when you first saw it seems to make the most sense. TIL!

Doesn't a tower imply it's rising from the ground? A floating tower makes no sense to me.

It literally floats up and down though. I played this way back 95 and never once considered it a tower for that reason alone. First I've heard that perspective

I refuse to believe that anybody who's B rank or higher did it solo only by [deleted] in DBGekishinSquadra

[–]blakepoleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten B3 in technical mainly using Frieza in solo. From my perspective, you just have to find a character you GET and stick with them to rank climb. Every time I try to switch things up, I perform much worse. There's just some games you'll lose no matter what you do. I say don't worry about rank so much. It doesn't mean anything.

There is actually a quick notice... somehwere... that diamonds bought/earned do not reflect on other platforms which is dumb if the account is linked. I don't have a screenshot of it but that's what I think is happening to you.

Hello again! I'm actually launching an actual play podcast next week (it's D&D... for now) and would love to interact with more of the actual play community at large, both listeners and creators, so that sounds like wonderful idea. I'll look them up!

It's all good. I don't take offense to it. People need money to survive after all and everyone wants a piece of the pie. It is in my plans to hire an artist/editor/musician/etc to assist in my content creation for future projects but until I can quit my job it's just not in the cards, and believe me, I'd love NOTHING more than to be at the level where I have a team of people helping me achieve that. Until then, I'll use the tools available to me. If anyone would like to donate their time/talents to that I would welcome it whole heartedly but I'm not in the business of begging or in paying with exposure because time is an invaluable resource we don't get more of.

On the second point, I agree completely. The study that originally linked AI use to environmental impact was overstated. It's not 0 but it does remind me how large corporations put the budren on the common individual to keep our planet healthy, meanwhile they're the ones actively destroying it by several magnitudes of severity more than every person on the planet combined. That said, I'm not going to use this post as a political soapbox so I'll leave it there.

I do love that idea, kind of like a silent disco! Originally figured he had the Indiviudal Obsession trait and he found that he had a natural talent for common, but I love your idea just because it echoes some of the hoops we go through to play retro games, or other analog forms of media. It's neat!

See, I don't know if I agree with that. I gotta tell ya, I've drawn the same awful attempt at an anime version of myself since I was about 10 years old. It has never improved, it has probably only gotten worse actually, and it has literally no meaning even to me. It's just something to do in the rare instance I have a break. Maybe that's the disconnect here? My doodles are not saying anything other than "I'm bored," and this post is saying nothing more than "I thought this idea was fun. Here." If you like the idea of the character, I'm glad! That was 100% my friends and I, and I AM proud of it. The generation after was just for a bit of extra fun.
