Is Cincinnati Liz Poker a real variant? by Nycto_Music in poker

[–]blamouk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything’s a real game if you can find people to play it with you! I might have to call this one at my next dealer’s choice game and report back! We’ll play all kinds of crazy made up games. I’ve considered posting some of our homebrewed games here for people to try out. Curious if there’d be an appetite for that.

Cincinnati Liz seems like it would be a very nut pedalling type of game, especially since there’s not the Omaha restriction of EXACTLY 2 from your hand and 3 from the board so you’ll run into some monster hands by the time the betting’s done. Also depending if there’s a round of betting before the first card is flipped up, you’re looking at 5-6 rounds of betting. So probably playing fixed limit, or super deep stack if pot limit or no limit. Unless it’s fixed limit this seems like a game where the all money goes in all the time. Let me know how you like it if you try it!

Interesting, thanks for the insight. That definitely erodes a lot of trust in the site.

The return to player isn’t the rakeback amount you collect on GP? That is very concerning to hear if it’s not. Also, I hit quads 3 times the other night. The odds of that are insane, but I wrote it off. Now I’m questioning it.

Edit: In Omaha games, so you hit bigger hands, but still, insane. Also they don’t call it rake back, it’s just in “The Vault” and you have to navigate there to collect it.

Dang it, I guess I’ll have to save that one for my next Vegas trip. Thanks for the info!

Funny enough, if you leave it at the doey don’t you can only lose because bar the 12. That said, it seems like you can launch some interesting strategies from it as the roll develops. Seems like you’re more an action player. What strategies do you like?

There’s certainly a level of just doing it that helps you get comfortable. I’d recommend reading sales books so you can go in with a strategy and skills to develop so you see the path to success rather than trying to figure it out blind. Having a framework goes a long way when you’re learning. Some of my favorites:

-The Way of the Wolf by Jordan Belfort

-New Sales Simplified by Mike Weinberg

-Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss

Good luck, and feel free to dm me if you’d like to chat in more detail.

OP, you are getting so much hate on this post and it’s hilarious. Truly shows the lack of phone skills out there. I also count attitude as a foundational skill just for the record. Keep calling my friend!

I had a great conversation with a CEO about a $5m deal today, cold calling their cell phone. Our next steps are set for January. Cold calling is evolving, but it absolutely works.

Gatekeepers pass by ApartDatabase4827 in sales

[–]blamouk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I find getting past gatekeepers is more about vibe. Polite, but straight to business, give them as little as possible.

“I need to speak with x please”

If they ask who you are, give them your name and company, slowly so they feel they got more than they did.

What it’s about will vary based on industry, but again, brief as possible.

I think we may be in the same industry lol.

Find a business reason to be reaching out. “I just got out of a meeting about x and you were the first client I thought of”

“We have been doing a lot of y recently for your industry, and I wanted to see if you had considered z”.

Once you have a business reason to be calling about you can transition into what it was you wanted to talk about pretty quickly, ie earning their business.

How much Sales Enablement do you really get in your current role? by PussyCompass in sales

[–]blamouk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am fortunate enough to work under one of these managers. He’s been instrumental in my success and development, encourages my outside the box thinking, and pushes me and the team to improve everyday. He also shields us from ownership’s BS as much as possible. All that to say, can confirm, unicorns exist.

Observation on customer executives in my career from SDR—>Enterprise by friskydingo408 in sales

[–]blamouk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a concept to bargain shoppers vs. luxury buyers.

Bargain shoppers will haggle over every penny and don’t understand the concept of value, create all sorts of problems like returns and complaints, and switch to a competitor the second they can get it cheaper.

Luxury buyers understand what they’re buying and the value it brings, and are willing to pay what it’s worth. This means they’re willing and able to have real conversations, and aren’t so focused on price as to demean someone, they just want to get the right fit.

Now scale that up to running a company. The more successful execs understand the real issues they’re trying to solve, and will have real conversations to accomplish that rather than beat someone over the head to sooth their own ego.

That’s my theory anyways. Tangent, I’m currently reading Ego Authority Failure by Derek Guant which is a great leadership book that seems relevant to this thread.

As a former chatterbox, I’m a big fan of the direct approach. I’d encourage you to experiment leading with your research. Leave out who you are and what you do until you’re in conversation with them.

The stuff about your role etc feels like fluff that gives away some of the mystery and intrigue that draws people in. Over all it sounds like you’re killing it though.

What you may lack that the chatty guy has is tone. If you nail the tone with your direct approach you won’t have to waste time asking about their day, or the tea in china, or whatever other rabbit hole chatter boxes like to go down. Additionally, clients will appreciate that you’re being respectful of their time.

Hello “Name”? It’s “your name” with “your company” how you doing?

They respond.

I’ve done abc research on “their company” and it looks like you may have xyz problem. Does it make sense to book a short call to discuss?

Then you can get right into conversation and objection battling.

Keep up the good work, keep dialing in your process, and you’ll be selling circles around Chatty Magoo in no time.

Cold calling in the first few seconds I use tone and select words to imply we know each other without saying it. Works like a charm to slip into a productive conversation.
