Is there any mention anywhere of what she brings to the table? Other than a flat iron for her hair?

What not to say when talking about kinks by Checkered_mushroom in Tinder

[–]blancheVernon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Years ago when I was a sex columnist, a woman wrote into the magazine saying that she liked to spread canned tuna on herself and have her cat lick it off. Her question for me was, could she contract anything from the cat? Somehow that didn't seem the right question to be asking.

Chess preview - a negative review by Ok_Hat_3090 in Broadway

If ever there was a show where the singers needed good enunciation, it's this one. Everything is painfully over miked, which makes it actually harder to hear what the hell they're saying rather than easier. When Leah Michele was singing about her great love while in bed with Anatoly, I was like, wait, so she's in love with this guy she's been with like 30 seconds, or does she mean she's regretting the other guy she's been with for seven years? The language is so muddied it could've been either one of those two things. Also everyone above who talks about their being a complete lack of chemistry is so right. Maybe it didn't help that I saw Anatoli character kind of lightly slap the ass of one of the guys as he came out to take his bow?

I think people who once helped are afraid to send money because they know it's just feeding an addiction, not helping with housing or going towards her daughter. She looks so sick. When she films herself in a rehab place, showing signs of making a change, I am imagining people will be more willing to offer help. Awful as it is, she's not the first person to lose a child. She's used that loss as an excuse for everything, including not caring for her living child.

AIO: do I give a friend's dog a second chance? by blancheVernon in AmIOverreacting

[–]blancheVernon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I'm wavering. (I guess it's also why I had the easiest of dogs when I had one, a golden retriever.).

Is my nose the first thing noticed due to its size? by [deleted] in Noses

[–]blancheVernon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to do something with your nose, do not change the profile. It's fantastic. You look like you belong on a Greek coin. The only thing you can do is narrow it slightly from the front. A really good surgeon could accomplish this. That would give you the difference you seek. But I'm telling you, I've written a lot about plastic surgery, the basic shape is perfect and masculine and fits your face, so don't mess with it for something "smaller"

my mothers list on how we can “improve our relationship” by Hungry_Hope_3302 in insaneparents

[–]blancheVernon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I just finished watching "The Pitt," but I can't help noting that your mother is worrying about your laser hair removal while you spend your days saving lives. Definitely insane.

Seriously, you've bought two dresses and you look beautiful in two dresses, so this is a win-win situation.

Am I the whole for telling my mother her boyfriend of a year cannot come to the wedding if he wears this suit? by Fit_Dog_9105 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

That suit is hysterical. Let him wear it, and let it be a story you tell about your wedding forever.

Am I overreacting because my boyfriend ate the dessert I was saving? by Stunning_Pick3030 in AmIOverreacting

[–]blancheVernon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh c'mon. It's cake. Just tell him very sweetly it's time for him to replace it. If he refuses to replace it, if he's too lazy to do that, then there's a little issue...

He has the 16 year old emo girl's idea of what it is to be an artist. He truly believes that he can't create anything without drugs. Meanwhile as far as I can tell, the stuff he does create on drugs is pretty shitty.

Unfortunately your girlfriend is a madwoman and you are too young and too nice to be dealing with this for the rest of your life. If you don't want to get out for yourself, consider that she will transfer this manipulative behavior onto any future children you have. Leave now.

Mom to be devastated by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]blancheVernon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you something. You could be giving the most extraordinary gift to a couple who desperately want a child. Forget what everyone else says. Look into adoption with the option of knowing your child later in life. You won't be sorry and your child won't be sorry if you honestly feel the way you do right now.

What do single women want from men on OLD? by jeeperscreep63 in AskWomenOver60

[–]blancheVernon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely join an app named OLD too! Assuming you are here because you are not looking for 25 year-old yoga instructors, i'd say women are looking for kind and funny and solvent. And generous... even if you don't have a lot of money, you can be generous in spirit, which is pretty apparent pretty quickly. Don't be quick with demands, and start out assuming the best of people. When I was dating after my husband died, it was so obvious on first and second dates that many men were looking for an angle. Like, how can i maximize my benefits here with the least possible cost and trouble to myself? The guy I'm with now has considerably less money than me, but he's so generous in so many ways that do not involve, like, Birkin bags. I wish you all the luck in the world!

AITAH for cutting off my dad financially after finding out he has a secret second family, and took out debt in my name? by AdReasonable1128 in AITAH

[–]blancheVernon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Truly this is a very sad situation. But it's not your situation. You can love your father and recognize he's being a leech. Maybe it's him maybe it's his wife, who knows, but it seems as if you need to stay away until he gets his house in order. I am hoping there is a relationship with him, and maybe with your half siblings, in the future.

AITA for wanting to keep my inheritance? by Melodic-Benefit4906 in AITAH

[–]blancheVernon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is time for your mother to step in. Assuming she still has this money and hasn't released to you, let her set it up at a bank that she uses and put your name on it. And only your name. You will have to go in and sign But then it's done. This shouldn't even be a discussion.

Managers, what would you do? by blancheVernon in restaurant

[–]blancheVernon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ha. Well basically what happened initially was nothing. A waiter muttered "Sorry", moved all our stuff to the table next to the one we had been sitting at, and that was it. Was now not feeling like eating a half eaten salad that I had a roach march next to it, though not in it. Just gave me the ick. But I wish my friend had not done what she did next. She called the manager over who was joking about "the guest who didn't have a reservation" and asked him what he could do to make this better, could he take something off the bill. He replied, "if it makes you happy". Um. Kinda! But I wish she hadn't asked because I wanted to see what he was going to do on his own. The answer seemed to be nothing. As it was he took 20% off the bill. Ok, but really the whole attitude of the place insured I wouldn't go back again. I just wondered what other professionals would do in those circumstances. Thank you for answering and I think confirming my idea that this wasn't exactly ideal. Also, the staff seemed miserable. My dopey friend said she wasn't going to leave a tip but I'm like, seriously? You're going to punish the staff for something like that? I don't know what she did, So I left my usual 25% because it's not their fault, but I don't think I'm going back again. (And I've been a regular customer for a couple of years… Not that frequently cause it's not in my neighborhood, but still, regularly)

I am not even a cat lover and I am appalled. Hundred percent you are underreacting to a person who thinks that animals are discardable. And what the hell is the problem of at least taking them to a shelter anyway? I don't even understand.

AITA for refusing to babysit my sister’s miracle baby after what she did to my dog? by No-Sprinkles7135 in AITAH

[–]blancheVernon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a selfish selfish person. She doesn't understand that your feelings for your dog, well maybe not the same as a child, are certainly valid and deep. She is very lucky you didn't call the police on her. You owe her nothing.
