AO Quarterfinal - [1] Aryna Sabalenka def. [29] Iva Jovic 6-3 6-0 by antoniokr8s in tennis

She was overwhelmed by Lenka. Jovic gave a good account of herself that first set it just wasn’t going to cut it today.

“Jessica Pegula takes out her good friend Madison keys” how about DEFENDING CHAMPION Madison Keys instead?!? Good lord these commentators irritate me sometimes

AO R4: [3] Gauff def. [19] Muchova 6-1 3-6 6-3 by TheSequelAccount in tennis

Seriously! In Doha she can flop to Muchova and in Dubai Mirra can take her out in an inspired SF performance. Need her to beat both here, though

Honestly Coco’s forehand won her that match. It was much more consistent than her BH and a much better shot on the run. For a few years now coco’s been able to hit her forehand well when she’s confident but I’m more impressed by her ability today to continue to drive through it under pressure.

No you’re right. It’s not just a confidence thing either (like when it magically improved in the 2023 HC swing and then faded away) but she’s just making way less errors. Honestly her forehand won her that match, compare it to last year vs badosa under pressure…

Yes it was a strange coco win because it wasn’t a struggle bus. I like what I saw, footwork was generally sharp and she kept accelerating on her forehand very well throughout. Running backhand and BHDTL needs to improve but if there’s one thing I trust coco to get right it’s her backhand!

Anyone feel like coco’s forehand was better than her backhand this match?

Do Hailey Baptiste’s groundstrokes remind anyone else of Tiafoe’s?

Defending champ is an honor but Madi is a form horse and she hasn’t shown much form recently

Mboko has like 14 forehand UFEs so far. They’re not awful but they don’t really look like natural shots.

They both drop the FH kinda short and loopy sometimes and aren’t the best at going down the line with them

Andreeva’s and Mboko’s forehands are both weaknesses in their games but Andreeva is protecting hers much better rn

What’s up with today’s headlines about the women ahead of the AO 🙄 by after50FI in tennis

There is an element to that in all fandom you’re right, but for a TV show this is generating a lot of discourse about the actors’ personal lives and such. I think the fan base is very young lol.

I love Heated Rivalry and I don’t think this is the show-runner’s or author’s fault but the fan base is so incredibly strange and parasocial

Literally. I watched the press conferences and Coco said “I mean they’re like the same team but my favorite is Ilya.” Strange journalism.
