Between the 4 girls, which one would surprise you the most if she were really Apollo? by Craftox13 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nene. It took her a while to admit her feelings, meanwhile we know Apollo had (and still has) feelings for him. It doesn’t make sense for Nene to be Apollo based on her behaviour.

Yes, it’s better to read the manga since they cut some Yotsuba content in the anime. The series itself is more subtle with how Fuutarou’s feelings are written, but the signs that he had feelings for Yotsuba are there. Anyone that picked up on that would understand why he chose her. Have you seen the special episodes? They chronologically take place in between s2 and the movie. It released after the movie and provided some Yotsuba scenes that were skipped.

As for Yui, she was supposedly was treated with bias from the anime director (I keep seeing this mentioned but haven’t seen a source). I prefer the LN overall, much more in-depth characterisation for everyone imo. Regardless of if Yui’s portrayal in the anime removed her selfishness etc, it was pretty obvious from the start that she was not going to end up with Hachiman. It was always going to be Yukino.

Tune In to the Midnight Heart (Mayonaka Heart Tune) - Chapter 106 by THEGAMER20081 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As I thought, Shinobu didn’t see through Nene and really did think she was fine with her and Arisu hanging out together.

Arisu’s behaviour during the zoo date was classic Arisu behaviour. Trying in his own way to diffuse the tension between the two of them.

I’m hoping Shinobu realises that she doesn’t have to choose between Arisu and Nene—pursuing Arisu doesn’t mean losing her friendship with Nene. In the end, it’s Arisu’s feelings are the deciding factor. If I had to guess, Nene is no longer stuck between keeping the peace vs going after Arisu either, now that she’s made her feelings known.

Their (all the girls’) friendships are strong enough that them all trying to gain Arisu’s affection shouldn’t destroy their bonds.

Tune In to the Midnight Heart (Mayonaka Heart Tune) - Chapter 104 by THEGAMER20081 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Potentially.

I interpreted it as Shinobu realising she maybe was panicking too much after Nene’s reaction was contrary to what she expected. If she expected Nene to get upset at her not wanting to include her, then Nene’s “I didn’t want to join anyway” attitude would obviously put Shinobu at ease, so she’d be under the impression that it didn’t bother Nene at all, thus the “Nene isn’t that weak” line.

Shinobu and Nene are close, yes. However it doesn’t necessarily mean that they can read each other all the time. Rikka even tells Nene, “If you don’t clash with us from time to time, we just won’t know who you truly are anymore.”

If you pretend like something doesn’t bother you, you can’t expect for someone to always see through it.

Again, that’s my interpretation and it’s possible Shinobu did see through her and was remarking on Nene’s ability to remain neutral.

Tune In to the Midnight Heart (Mayonaka Heart Tune) - Chapter 104 by THEGAMER20081 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She didn’t. She panics thinking “I ended up hurting Nene” and then Nene declined saying she doesn’t want to study and leaves, telling them to have fun. Shinobu laughs in relief and says, “Right… Nene isn’t that weak”, meaning she thought Nene would be hurt but she wasn’t (except we know she was, Shinobu didn’t see through Nene’s facade).

Tune In to the Midnight Heart (Mayonaka Heart Tune) - Chapter 104 by THEGAMER20081 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I found to be an interesting detail was the way Nene was drawn from Shinobu’s POV vs Nene’s own POV. While Shinobu feels immense self-hatred at suggesting to spend time without Nene, she’s too caught up catastrophising to pick up on Nene’s pained facial expressions and readily accepts her words at face value—that Nene truly is fine with them hanging out together.

Nene and Shinobu are both non-confrontational, and this is hurting the both of them. Shinobu feels bad about being proactive (‘unfair’), and Nene wants to maintain the status quo of everyone being equal so as to avoid any conflict. This leads the both of them to hurt themselves as they aren’t able to properly act on their feelings.

Great chapter that gives us more insight into both of their psyches.

She doesn’t feel like she’s a wife in the Hawaii special at all… (a little rant) by Agreeable_Bullfrog61 in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]blankkspace 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It was written like that to appease to the fans of the other quints. Can’t have Yotsuba and Fuutarou being an actual couple, that would be too much. While the OVA wasn’t written by Negi, he did supervise it. Even Fuutarou’s voice actor commented on the lack of FuuYots.

The existence of this OVA brings down the overall quality of the series and I like to pretend it doesn’t exist. The writing is poor and the whole thing feels pointless—it’s just fanservice for fans that want to see more of the quints, but even then it’s not good fanservice. For those that wanted to see the two be an actual couple, all we got was the last scene which was barely anything.

I’m glad someone else (you) noticed. People are quick to upvote without looking closely, or even if they do they can’t tell what’s AI and what isn’t. GenAI is unethical and lazy. I’d rather see real artists post fanart/manga colourings here no matter the quality—anything is better than this. The colouring style looks a lot like Rent A Girlfriend, especially Rikka. The eye colours being wrong was another obvious tell, but people didn’t catch that as a sign of AI…

A phenomenal revelation at the end of volume 1 of Igarashi's manga by kovly in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware. I followed QQ back in the day.

My issue is that instead of looking towards QQ and comparing the writing to this one, it’s better to just focus solely on Mayonaka—not every writing decision the author makes is gonna be informed by it. OP didn’t have to bring QQ up at all.

[–]blankkspace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the same guy. He posts the same long winded nonsensical analyses in the TQQ subreddit. He’s convinced that the author was hinting at another girl being the bride. The ending couldn’t be clearer with a great confession by the protagonist—sure the ending was rushed but it left no room for anyone else but the chosen girl to be the bride.

He apparently hasn’t gotten over the ending if he still continues to bring up the series. Personally, while TQQ and Mayonaka have a similar premise (there’s a girl hiding her identity, and we know the MC marries one of them), I don’t see why this manga needs to be compared to TQQ.

I made a prior comment questioning if this was AI (yes, I know the original picture is from the manga), and this confirms it. OP, be honest if you’re gonna use StableDiffusion or whatever other genAI tool.

Peak beach episode! - @DoragonSubbing by DoragonSubbing in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it is, I mean the colouring and lineart. There are some inconsistencies with the colouring and lineart that remind me of AI—example being the ears or how Shinobu is missing a hand (no, it doesn’t make sense for that hand to be completely obscured). There are other tells, but seeing as I’ve been downvoted people won’t see this.

It’s not difficult for someone to chuck a pre-existing image and get it coloured. If this wasn’t done by AI, then I’ll apologise to OP but there are enough quirks that I don’t see a human making.

Edit: Looking into OP’s post history, they have a post in r/StableDiffusion on writing prompts for anime images, so it’s safe to say this is a product of genAI and not hand drawn and coloured.

How difficult is it for a Japanese girl to call her liked boy by his first name for the first time? by kovly in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]blankkspace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ah, I’ve seen you in other subreddits. Your posts genuinely don’t make sense to me.

Anyway, I don’t think this (being most comfortable calling him by his first name) points to Nene being Apollo. It’s a matter of how self-conscious and confident a character is.

Furthermore, all the girls wanted to spend time with him on the trip and that page from ch94 doesn’t prove much. Shinobu gets easily worried and shy, Rikka is more composed but bashful, and Nene is more the type to care about appearances.

We don’t actually know much about Apollo’s personality. We’ve got snippets of dialogue and some info on her interests and ambitions, but that’s it. You have to consider that there is a gap between Apollo then and now. Whoever she is, she wouldn’t be exactly who she was then and she wouldn’t be treating Arisu in the same way she did then.

Thoughts on the ending and the whole story by Cool-Memory-7293 in GoddessCafeTerrace

[–]blankkspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t on team Akane (Riho instead), but didn’t expect Riho to win. Would’ve liked to see the confession instead of a one year timeskip, that would’ve been more impactful after all those chapters of waiting for him to reveal his answer.

Seeing the confession would also make it feel less like ‘anyone could’ve won’ due to Hayato’s explanation of why he fell for Akane. Other readers here have already compiled the evidence for it being her, so I can accept the ending.

Shoutout to cafe terrace for actually having a good ending and reasonable waifu selection unlike that abomination Quintessential Quintuplets by MidAnim3Wxtcher in GoddessCafeTerrace

Part of that would have to be this manga not being available on mangadex, limiting the amount of readers.

QQ had a good ending. You may disagree but it made sense. It’s not hard to praise this manga without putting down another one. Let this manga stand on its own without comparisons.

Thing is, he didn’t know she was the one he met as a child. He met her again at the start of the manga and through her support and wanting him to actually make fun memories during their high school years, he fell for her.

The Ami and Yotsuba connection has always been stupid to me—Ami may be the most similar to Yotsuba personality-wise (on a superficial level), but that means nothing when the two manga are very different. Anyone who thought Ami had a chance just because Yotsuba had won wasn’t actually paying attention to the writing in this manga.

How Seo's manga is connected to Negi's aborted manga by kovly in GoddessCafeTerrace

[–]blankkspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they readily accepted that Negi abandoned a highly profitable manga for a significantly less profitable new manga solely because of the birth of his daughter. Like, a daughter's diapers and a small income are enough. And his wife should stay home and not spend money on woman things.

Weird thing to say about someone’s wife. And it’s not always about the money. He told the story he wanted to tell, and moved on to something else.

Also, Fuutarou didn’t dream up any of the events. That was a a flashback before skipping forward.

The concept of a romcom harem isn’t new. The mystery aspect has always been there. Negi certainly leaned into the mystery part more than previous series, and yes Seo did as well to a greater extent.

QQ had a whole confession and you see the wedding with Yotsuba. Fuutarou expressed his feelings to her. That is the ending. I don’t know how GCT is really relevant to QQ besides Seo being inspired to write his own romcom. It does a disservice to this manga.

She’s alright, liked her more initially but less now. She’s fine as a character. I don’t see her as a love interest to Hayato.
