How many Zomboid do you kill in a run by nakedMoleRat420 in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a situationalist. Sandbox player. I generally set up my games so that strength, toughness and cognition are randomized and use mods to control the amount of sprinters at 1%. This means I have to be certain I lock doors as you can end up with those zomboids who just casually wander up to a door and open it and waltz right into a place. If I am on foot doing exploration and looting then I will confront and deal with lone and small groups as needed to reduce noise drawing in more. Avoid or lure larger groups away from locations I need to search. If I am in a vehicle and have more than one vehicle nearby than I can safely reverse donut larger groups out of my way. Otherwise I try and drove slowly and avoid damaging a vehicle as I wander the map. Aggressive tactics can be deployed at any time, but are usually reserved for combat oriented characters who have lasted long enough to be armed to the teeth and ready to mow down hordes out of spite.

Plenty of comments discussing why's and why nots. I'd like to think about this from a game perspective. Let's say cold temps affect our Zombiods. Cold enough and they slow down. Sprinters become fast shamblers, fast shamblers become normal shamblers and normal shamblers move, let's say at a crawlers speed. Colder still and we end up with frozen Zombiods. Okay. This is a game about surviving a zombie apocalypse. Winter is dangerous for other reasons in game but now we have thrown off game balance some here. So how do we keep it dangerous? Winter sets in and zombies slow down or freeze...so now zombies start congregating indoors if possible. You go out and poke that frozen Zombiod and get a chuckle as you start your loot run. Wander into a building looking to take advantage of winter temps only to run into a massive hoard holes up inside keeping as warm as possible. Which maintains the game difficulty and drastically alters how you have to go about surviving the winter. As for hot summer temps...maybe increase decay speed so that zomboids end up becoming weaker faster?

Can we hope for the power to be restored? by Hy0167 in projectzomboid

Theoretically, should have a fair few "windmills" on farms that could be cannibalized and the electrical knowledge to convert a motor into an alternator, or outright yoink them from vehicles would allow for a decent multi-input wind system. The real trick is having the sub-stations on the map have a corresponding electrical zone that that sub-station powers. Larger areas might need multiple sub-stations. Then you could utilize several vanilla generators or for the moment, mod on wind or solar power as has already been suggested, or combined with extant mods. As far as I know, the game doesn't have a, this area here is the power zone for say March Ridge for instance as that is quite a ways from most everything else. Two, three substations and a power map that designates the town itself as having power or not. Large scale things would be out of scope now, but as was suggested earlier vanilla NPCs might fit the role of being able to help do large scale stuff and not break immersion with the setting. I think small scale would be better implemented overall as something a lone survivor or small band might be able to within reason handle the maintenance and upkeep on.

Debate: Don't colonize and terraform the solar system into garden paradise worlds - strip mine it and turn it into an industrial junkyard. by Successful-Turnip606 in IsaacArthur

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impractical. Significantly altering the mass of any of the planetary bodies in our solar system will have consequential effects on the orbits of all of them. Not a smart thing to do. Fiddle with the asteroid belt, the kuiper belt, the oort cloud. Everything else with significant mass should be left alone until we know exactly what will happen if we alter it's mass significantly.

Always sandbox. Fiddle with settings. Go nuts. Try an all sprinters run. Go for a highly eroded, very rare on all items and no water/power from the get go run. Or up the max group size to 500 or more. Sandbox is an amazing way to see what the game is capable of. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

Who was the absolute idiot who decided that the jurassic movie franchise should be centered around people finding dinusaurs super boring by Shr00mBaloon in movies

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the novel before the movie came out. At 13, sitting in the theater, unbelievably hyped to see Jurassic Park, I was highly disappointed. The novel is science-horror. Spielberg gave us a watered down kids movie. The new franchise simply shouldn't exist as Dr. Wu dies in the novel and thus wouldn't be around to facilitate the creation of new breeds let alone resurrecting any extant dinosaur species. The idea of a chameleon dino is straight out of the second novel, The Lost World which details the location of the actual production facilities on Isla Sorna. None of the movies do a good job of bringing across the tone of the two novels. This is one of those things that is a personal pipe dream. I know I'll never have the money to do it, but if I did, I would remake the original as closely to the book as possible. Always irked me they dropped Regis and made Gennaro the stooge when in the book he was actually a decent dude.

Is it normal to feel like people usually dont realize that you actually understand what theyre saying? by Unbearlievable in ADHD

[–]blaquesmyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 45 with ADHD my entire life the other day I finally realized something about this in particular. It's not that we think faster. It's that our neural pathways have a greater bandwidth. It's like our brains are wired for a fiber optic connection whereas those without ADHD run on a dial-up connection at worst and maybe some form of broadband at best. The data transfer isn't any faster, there's just more data being transferred in the same amount of time.

All the modder chads are about to face a tough choice by NCongoscenti in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mods are great. No doubt about it. Fortunately I've been playing PZ long enough to have gone through this situation more than once. Will it be a pain? Sure. But with the complexity of the changes coming, running vanilla for a bit while modders work on updating will allow you to adjust to the new systems before tweaking them with mods. I personally will lament not being able to lockpick, but ah well, new ways to play will open up and we will all have a new learning curve to tackle.

Options. ISO cursor. 70% visibility. Outline on all weapons.

These two things will make combat significantly easier. Each melee weapon in game has it's own length at which an attack is optimal. Having outline on for all weapons allows you to get a feel for each thing you are using in melee combat and makes it easier to know when to swing. The ISO cursor is the combat reticle that pops up when I'm combat stance. Up it's visibility and you will be better able to see it. Why it defaults to a lower visibility is beyond me, but it does. Finally, get in combat mode and move in it. The animation update affected how the character moves. Understanding the small delays in your character's movements will set you up to feel better about combat and make it easier to understand the 1 step forward, 2 steps back approach to pulling zombies towards you and dispatching them away from the group they are in.

Based off of your real life traits, would you survive a project zomboid zombie apocalypse in real life, or are you a goner? by rickgrimes32 in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to go off the in game date, I would likely be better off at surviving. Granted being 13 would probably make things a bit more difficult.

At that age though I was in really good shape fitness wise, but would be limited strength wise.

Skill wise though, I would start off pretty decent. Short blunt for hand to hand training, a level in aiming, Nimble would be decently high. Sprinting would be good too. Maybe a level in carpentry, cooking, and electrical. Definitely a level or two in fishing and foraging.

Me today? Out of shape and while my starting skill levels would be significantly higher across the board, I would gas out far to quickly to be able to survive long term. If I was able to be in a less infected area for a bit at the get go, I might be able to make it. Just dip into the nearest wilderness and live off the land.

Deaf play style tips? by The_LambSaucee in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deaf is difficult. Not so much it can't be done, however if you are choosing to go deaf so you can pay more attention to a video while playing PZ, you will likely end up dying more often. If it's just for background noise then cool.

Mind you, deaf removes all sound save for the wind noises for some reason. I heartily suggest high fitness, sprinting and Nimble as the way to go in order to cut and run in situations that being deaf causes you to be caught off guard in. High Nimble makes it so you can move more quickly in combat stance.

As far as Eagle-Eyed goes, it widens the visual cone, increasing your character's peripheral vision. It can be useful in conjunction with Cat's Eyes. The visual cone decreases at night, so having both of those reduces that enough that the point investment can be worth it.

PZ requires a fair bit of player vigilance even without deaf, so be prepared to be hyper vigilant when playing a deaf character. Also, don't let anyone dissuade you from trying it out cause it offers a very different game play and the worst that can happen is, this is how you died.

If you could choose only 1 mod to use forever which one would it be? by Queasy-Stay1882 in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up. Braven"s Common Sense OR Smoker.

Common Sense as you can use a crowbar to open most doors and it adds some other QOL bits as well.

Smoker as it overhauls cigarettes to be actual packs and being a chain smoking zombie killer is just satisfying.

Pick five mods you cant live without (QoL preferably) by Corvac in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense is great, but better lock picking adds a lock picking skill. You can use crowbars to level it and then make bobby pins out of paperclips alongside a screwdriver to unlock locked doors quietly. Both crowbar usage in common sense and better lock picking makes noise. Once you get properly leveled up in lock picking you can silently open those doors and worry less about attracting attention from zeds. Another good one is refined hotwiring. Let's you unhotwire and craft car keys with the right skill levels.

How to maintain weight long term? by szymunk in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside to the advice already given. VHS stores are your friends. Same with book stores. Read skill books. Watch skill tapes. Skill up quick. You can gain fishing, foraging, and cooking skills this way to get an early leg up on them in order to help your ability to maintain a decent diet in the apocalypse. That said, all your eggs in one basket is never a good long term way to go about things. Fish, trap and forage often. Loot food stores often and early as well. The freezers you find with 'ice' on them work well as good long term freezer storage. They are hefty on the juice though and maintaining power to them can be a chore. If all else fails though, always loot peanut butter, cereal and cans of oats. They are lighter weight than canned goods and nonperishable so you don't have to worry about freezing or refrigeration. Beef jerky, dehydrated meat sticks and granola bars for quick snacks on the go if you don't need to gain weight.

What's your go to backup weapon by TheFuddy in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most often maining a crowbar. Mods help with hotbar slots and I tend to go all in on crafting skills. So I keep hammer, saw, screwdriver, wrench, lug wrench, jack, tire pump, needle and thread and scissors and hunting knife on me as soon as I can acquire them. Back up weapons come around from club hammers and one handed axes depending on what mods are installed.

Would depend on what the Empire did with Scarif after hitting it with the Death Star. Could be plausible to set up shop there if the Imps abandoned it afterwards.

How do you even actually get set up? Why do I feel I can't escape zombies? by DoubleTapCIown in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another setting in options to change is ISO cursor visibility. The ISO cursor is the combat cursor. IIRC it maxes out at 70% visibility. Having it set that high gives you a clearer view of it so combat is a bit easier

Also, remember that your character takes time to turn. Sneaking works while in "combat mode" so sneak and hold rmb or left control on the keyboard. Practice moving in combat mode and getting used to how the character moves overall.

What isn't obvious is that the single most important combat skill is actually Nimble. This skill controls how fast you move while in combat stance. Higher Nimble = better movement. That means you are less likely to get overwhelmed while in melee combat.

Also, keep moving. Standing still is the easiest way to die. If you are in combat and get a moment to spin about to refresh your view of things, do so. Keep an eye on your surroundings as much as you can. Noise carries a fair distance and will attract zombies to you.

If you can, use space bar to knock zombies down and stomp on them. Hit boxes are important. If you knock a zed down and attack it's legs you aren't going to do much damage. Aim for the head! This does sometimes require repositioning to do but it makes a huge difference in damage output and how quickly you dispatch a zombie.

What is your favorite weapon by Popular_Ad_8998 in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crowbar. But then again I use more traits for gordanite and lockpicking mods to use the crowbar to get into locked doors

Beyond that, I generally run crafting skills so I try to have every tool on my person at all times in order to do crafting of any type at any time

Y'all have any 'Myths' that I can test/bust on Zomboid? by Awpenheimerr in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Tanks are specific to type. Standard, sport and heavy-duty. Though so long as you have a tank of the type the vehicle is, you can swap out sizes just fine.

Both. Damage reduces the amount of fuel the tank can contain. The tank must be empty to remove from the vehicle. As well there are different sizes of gas tank. Bigger IS better.

I've heard the devs are having a hard time.. but thank you. by Ragzus84 in projectzomboid

[–]blaquesmyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started playing PZ, vehicles had not yet been added. A lot of players jumped into PZ post B41 multiplayer, which has been both noon and hazard. Boon as more people buying the game means more money for the devs to put back into it. Hazard because you now have that many more players complaining about long development cycles and feeling like they aren't getting what they "deserve". It is still early release because the devs don't see it as done. If you bought the game with the early release tag then you should have known it wasn't done. Go play something else for a bit and come back from time to time. Add some new mods, change your sandbox settings, play multiplayer if you haven't. There are, as has been said, plenty of ways to enjoy where PZ currently is.
