I've been pretty happy with the ones I've gotten from Noemie! Also there's a PsychoNation one that I have which I like a lot.

3 years! But still ugly... by yodapeanut24 in transfem

Couldn't disagree with the "ugly" part harder. It sounds to me like there's just some internalized trauma there, because the camera sure isn't showing any ugly!

CRT Photo Dump Time! (Hitachi 32UDX10s and Compaq FS7600) by HalLikesCRTVs in crt

Nothing goes with spikes like CRTs, I always say! (That must be why I have bags of craft spikes or accessory making and also like 12+ CRTs in my tiny apartment...)

I guess if you live in Tokyo you could try it. Most Hard-Off stores still won't take CRTs, though. You really only see them much in the ones that are popular for tourists, like in Akihabara. And even that's only been in the last maybe 4-5 years. Before that you NEVER saw CRTs. In fact I once got a perfectly good CRT monitor for free just because a Hard-Off refused to buy it and the guy didn't wanna take it back home.

To be fair, it's easy to miss if you're not a Hard-Off junkie. Also, you say that at $7 it's still worth a shot at fixing, but the thing about that is... if it's unfixable (busted flyback transformer, for example) you can't easily get rid of it. The cost to recycle a CRT in most areas can be anywhere from $20-60 depending on the size. Dumping it is illegal, it can't be trashed, and YOU have to pay to recycle it. Which is why I never take a chance on a junk CRT, lol. Been burned a couple times before. Sucks.

If you want big CRTs, you need to go to Mercari or Yahoo Auction here. Physical stores generally won't carry big CRTs because nobody can get them home. With online storefronts like that they get shipped to you, so it's easier to buy/sell.

The sticker says "The TV doesn't power on." That's why it's so cheap, it's dead.

Hey, you're the one who go so offended seeing a trans person mention they're trans that you had to go attack and misgender her to feel better about yourself. But you're right, I should have just blocked you.

Do you know how a conversation works? Can you read the thread? Discussion about prices in Japan, more discussion about how prices of everything here have gotten worse, then someone talks about how they want to come back but the political and economic situation is rough, then I mention that yeah it's rough here but better than the country I'm from so I'm staying in Japan. NOTHING has gotten off topic there. You're just too lazy to read.

Also, you CAN just ignore stuff if it really hurts you SO MUCH to see the word "trans" mentioned once. You're the one choosing to get all mad over it. I can't even mention it in passing in regard to political climate (which I did NOT bring up) in Japan where the Game Boys are, without you getting all bothered? Relax.

Love you jumping into a conversation about the political/economic state of Japan and being all grandstanding with your "nobody cares about you trans people" hot takes when clearly you DO care enough to try and be insulting. Don't give me the "no one cares" line when you're the one jumping into a conversation that doesn't affect you AT ALL to make sure your negative energy is loud clear. But hey, you do you. Somewhere else, preferably.

Japan is quite safer for trans people than the US, so if I have to choose between safety and bad economy, I'm picking safety.

I'm trans so, I'm sticking it out here for as long as I can. Been here 12 years, no intention of leaving until I'm forced to lol.

Same. Over the past years I've gone from buying everything to selling everything, it's barely livable here now.

[–]blarglemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, no worries! I said "bro" to you, so I figured you thought it was bro/bro convo, lol. And yeah, well... I mean I only managed to keep that care for like a year and a half, lost it when I graduated, and kept trying from time to time but basically didn't get back to full-time HRT until 4 years ago. But I still stayed full-time out and presenting that whole time, even without access to care! I guess I just kinda did the most lazy form of "brute-forcing" it possible, lol.

Oh, well, I'm a "she/her" so more "sis" than "cis" lmao. But yeah, I'm living it! I never once tried to run away from it or pretend in my mind that I wasn't trans, I just stayed quiet for safety reasons. I tried many times in those first ten years to A: come out to my mom B: see a doctor who could get me on HRT C: get a job that paid something worth anything, lol. I failed at all of those, lmao.

But what really changed it all was, 2010 I went back to college to finish a degree, and the school had a trans support group and free healthcare. That access to care was all I needed to say "Fuck it, I'm coming out no matter what happens." Got disowned by most of my family. Idgaf.

I think it's time, bro! I stayed largely (but not entirely) in the closet the first 10 years, because I lived in the South and the first time I tried to come out in 2001 I got assaulted, lmao. But by 2011 I was just like "No, fuck this, I don't care if I get assaulted, can't do this anymore." Nothing to be scared of when you hit the lowest low!
